Born, raised, and still living here (Moncton). The tides will never get old. My fondest memories with my mom and dad (RIP Dad) are on the bay of Fundy. I remember my mom and I with a bucket collecting tiny shells on the sand, playing skeeters with shale rocks, watching flocks of sand pipers wisp about in the air (Dorchester Wharf, which is still bay of Fundy). We built our chimney for our house with massive stones from various beaches around new Brunswick. I remember walking with my parents when I was 11 picking what stones were best. Watching sunsets on the water, the familiar golden-orange hue. New Brunswick. My home.
I am originally from Halifax, and spent 7 years in Newfoundland, but when we were going to move back to Halifax, Maclean's magazine did a story on Moncton, calling it the number 1 small metropolitan city in Canada with over 100,000 people, due to the cost of living, low crime and complete amenities. So on a whim, we decided to move here, on the outskirts a.k.a. Shediac 3 years ago, and we can not imagine leaving. While Moncton may not be known for its tourism, that is actually Shediac's claim to fame. This is a tourist town just minutes away from Moncton, due to parlee beach, insane amounts of campgrounds and having the warmest ocean waters on this side of North Carolina. But what keeps us here is the people. There's just such a overwhelming sense of contentment in the people. I cannot imagine any other city in the world, where you can be stopped to a set of traffic lights, and the pedestrian waiting to cross the street, will simply smile and acknowledge you, and you just feel that they mean it. It's the same thing walking through one of the shopping areas. People passing you will simply smile, and you just know and feel that they genuinely care about everybody around them. My God, there are over 20,000 people from Moncton in a Facebook group where its sole purpose is to give things you have to people who need them more than they do. There's lots of beauty that surrounds it, but the beauty of character in the people of this area are what keep us here :-)
My wife and I are moving to Moncton in 3 weeks by way of San Francisco, where we’d been living for the past 5 years. After the State’s new administration in 2017, we laser-focused on obtaining permanent residency, and a year later, we got it. We purchased a home there sight unseen back in May. This video helped us to decide upon Moncton. It’s great to also read your comment on how incredible the people are in the area. We had originally put in an offer on a home in Shediac but it fell through. Looking forward to our new lives in such a beautiful country.
I was born and raised in Saint john New Brunswick. Have lived in 3 other cities including Toronto. What I have found is that I miss my home town because the people are as you say totally welcoming. Hospitality is so great when you go back east. From east to west you will notice people are not as friendly as they are in Saint John, New Brunswick, Saint John's NFLD and Moncton. These cities offer excitement and the ocean view and places to swim are far more interesting and more fun than any place I know. I have even been to Thailand and Japan, although they are beautiful places to visit they are also scary if you are alone. Because I am Canadian I know the safe cities in this large country. I lived also in Toronto, North York and even China town and Scarborough and Jane and Finch. I have lived in Vancouver, I am living in Alberta and I must say the further east you go the hospitality gets thinner and thinner. Thanks for sharing.
This was such a beautiful reflection. I love hearing your thoughts about a place and I appreciate how much you saw in an unassuming place, how it gave you space to consider things like mortality and community. That is a different kind of loveliness.
As someone who was born and raised in Moncton and knows all of these places like the back of my hand, this is very cool and very weird. I’m now attending the University of Waterloo and it is nice to see my hometown get some well-deserved recognition. I jokingly talk a lot of crap about it to my new friends I’ve met here since a lot of them don’t know really anything about Moncton, but I love my hometown and am proud to be from Moncton. Loved the video!
I've never seen a travel video about New Brunswick let alone MONCTON of all places! Lived here my entire life and I'm surprised someone has this positive/humble of an opinion about it! Make sure to check out a game at the Avenir Centre next time you visit!
Proud Monctonian here, thanks for sharing the beauty of NB. Coming from someone who was rescued by helicopter because of the tides, yes high tide is scary!!

Super cool! I'm from Charlottetown, PEI, and Moncton is definitely a city I can escape to with my friends when we need a night out. As someone who comes from Moncton it's so strange to think that walking on the ocean floor is crazy. It was always something we would do like once a year in elementary and middle. Great to see NB getting some love.

Happy New Year Moncton, Diepe and Riverview. You are the reason my heart beats faster. When I graduated from the nearby Mount Allison University, I was as poor as a church mouse but I had good connections and my friend Matt was working with Irving planting trees in Amherst, Nova Scotia and wow, carrying the load of trees was painful but worth it because we got paid $10.00 per hour by then. But, it was just a seasonal job so we got laid off at the end of the summer of 2007. I was like a fish out of water and my friend, Jenna Hirtle(the laughing girl) helped me apply for EI but I was denied...so I moved to Moncton and my good friends, Kelvin Ndoro and his girlfriend at the time took me in for 1 month and got a job in 2 weeks and moved out in time. Good friends are like a lotus flower, the just inspire.
Earlier this month I visited New Brunswick for the first time and spent a few days in Moncton for the same reason as you - it's so close to so many great things to see if you have some wheels at your disposal! I found the Hopewell Rocks and the Tides pretty amazing, too.
I live an hour from Moncton in between Alma and Riverside-Albert! I live 8 minutes from Fundy national park! The whole video I was live hey I know that place!
Thanks for showing some love to Moncton! At the end of the tour you will see a brick building that has a "Municipal Office" sign on the front. That is where I work - it is now the offices of the Albert County Museum! Come to Hopewell Cape one day during the summer and tour this historic site with buildings dating back to 1845.
I am glad you enjoyed our city, it is one of the most beautiful places, if you are able to make it back here you will need to go to Alma and Fundy Park....
I moved to Moncton several years ago and there is no place I would rather live, it is a great small city with all the amenities you need. You should have taken a trip to Fundy National Park as well, maybe next time you are down this way.

This is cool! I honestly never seen any of your videos, but saw a friend post this video on her Facebook. Let me say that I think it's great that you had such a good time here! I love Moncton and there's no place I'd rather live! Thanks for recognizing the awesomeness that is Moncton! To anyone planning on visiting, come in July or August. It's the best time of the year to come, beaches and seafood prime time!
Every once in awhile, the weather can get really nasty. Like the 162 cm of snow we had between Friday AM to Monday PM the first weekend of February 1992. It's just an example. This is what you get when you have cold temperatures and humidity.
@@Justsayingthat one thin i love is riding my motorcycle all over New Brunswick we have the best tasting lobster anywhere no I have no plans on moving anytime soon
I lived in Moncton for over 2 years I attended college there. I loved it. If I had to choose any province or huge Canadian city, I'll choose Moncton over all of them. I miss it
I've travelled extensively in Canada. I've always thought if I could live anywhere in Canada where would it be? Moncton. I visited Moncton as part of a tour of the maritime provinces with my family in the mid 1980s. For me, Moncton is very similar to a city in my area - Greensboro, NC. Moncton is a moderate priced moderate size city with land to grow as needed. It is a major transit center with trains and highways connecting Halifax through to Montreal. It has plenty of coasts and forests. There are some mountains not too far away.

I love road trips... flies to moncton
It was nice to greet you, whilst you were hear.
Lol i love that moncton is called a small city, but is almost the biggest in NB... says a lot abt this province
It's part of the "NB Trio" with Saint John and Fredericton.
It's been the largest city in NB for 4+ years and largest metro for 10+ years.
But yeah every city in NB is a "small" city
looks like an amazing place. Not gonna lie, I am tempted to move here from Quebec.
I live in shediac new brunswick just moved here from toronto 2 years ago and I will never go back I love it here
Keep up the good work
Every once in awhile, the weather can get really nasty. Like the 162 cm of snow we had between Friday AM to Monday PM the first weekend of February 1992. It's just an example. This is what you get when you have cold temperatures and humidity.
Hey Mark Whelan, what are your favourite things? I plan on moving soon?
@@Justsayingthat one thin i love is riding my motorcycle all over New Brunswick we have the best tasting lobster anywhere no I have no plans on moving anytime soon
@@markwhelan4732 sounds like a really relaxed environment. Dreamy
Love this, it makes me happy to see and know that you enjoyed this place, it's so beautiful!
I lived in Moncton for over 2 years I attended college there. I loved it. If I had to choose any province or huge Canadian city, I'll choose Moncton over all of them. I miss it
You have to go on the trails there so much fun
Beautiful video. Thanks 💜
as someone born in moncton, new brunswick.. this lowkey made me tear up a bit-
awesome....
I’m going to visit Moncton coming from Las Vegas in a couple of week, do u advised renting a car or Uber ?
Definitely rent a car!
I wonder if I could move to New Brunswick to get better practice with French and possibly even learn and use Welsh?
