- Description
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother’s house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be?
Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more-Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants…until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.
Alone in the woods with her dog, Mouse finds herself face to face with a series of impossible terrors-because sometimes the things that go bump in the night are real, and they’re looking for you. And if she doesn’t face them head on, she might not survive to tell the tale.
Original and fabulous. I love Bongo!!! Best narrator I have ever listened to.
Great story, I love her self dialog, humor and things to think about. Thanks
There is another audiobook from this author here on TH-cam. Called THE HOLLOW PLACES. Same author, same narrator and even some similar characters! I listened to that one first then found this one. If you liked this one I'm positive u would like the other! If you haven't heard it yet! Anyway, thought I would share!!
The narrator, her delivery and the humorous writing kept me in stitches despite horror suspense feel of the book 😂
My partner gave me one of those "...okay then" looks when I laughed aloud with my headphones on and turned my phone to show them what it was - I forgot the cover doesn't really convey the snark also included 😅😂
@@frenzyanarchy953 😂😂 makes one wonder if the title also conveys the type of reader that the book attracts 😂😂 i enjoyed the story a lot and hope you did too!
@jkleena - Very much so! I feel spoiled by the narrator, now I am struggling to listen to any read by AI now, this was so well written and read 😅
Great listen. Different and interesting story line. Love the narrator. I like the pauses. Thank you!
Love the story, and the narrator is making it more enjoyable! 😊
Very interesting story. Great adventure and perfect narrator. Thank you foe the upload..
Thanks for listening
This is truly great! The best audiobook in ages and the narrator is so good, I havent even thought about her, which is something because I'm usually wondering about their standard of education, this young lady is perfect (that shows my age and a whole lot more...sounds like a spinster schoolteacher lol!) I will definitely be looking out for more by this author! Its Arthur Machen, I think, who wrote about the kind of evil in the green book, The Others or The White People I think? Its either the White People or the Great God Pan that discusses a child who says, almost word for word the content of the Green Book, I would say its almost exactly the same, even in the "Allalla" appearing if she closed her eyes etc. Ok I looked it up and she said it was inspired by Machen and Algernon Blackwood's the Willows, I would question "inspired" as in my mind, its word for word.
Not sure how the narrator ,Laurel Lefkow would feel about people saying she's AI 🙄 Excellent narration
And she twisted around like the twisted things. Absolutely great!
This was an interesting book. I like the narrator's voice. The concept of this book is really out there. But that's not a bad thing. It's very interesting.
Really enjoyed this! Thanks. Reminded me of Tana French, in a way, with the little bits of social commentary thrown in and that slow lead in to the otherworldly. Looking forward to more.
🦋thank you. Wonderful humor exciting narration. Well written
Great book, thx for uploading it. Brilliantly narrated. Thank you😊
I've done house clean-outs for family "transitioning" to assisted living and hospice care; I plan to get rid of everything before I get to that point. I would never subject my son to that kind of ordeal, though I might leave some humorous detritus just for fun.
Preach!
Haha! Makes you think, lol!
Really good. I love Foxy. This poor girl would be lost without her 😂
Narration pauses for dramatic effect. I think the narration is great and fun
Just on Chapter two. This is how you do an audiobook!! Take note TH-cam
The best part of this was making fun of what I agree are the endless public radio fundraisers. They go on for weeks and you only seem to hear that. The best part of my divorce, no more npr blaring at 6:20 am, 7 days a week... much of the time these fundraisers. Don't miss it AT ALL.
I got two hours in before I even noticed. Good pace and story so far!
This is my second book dealing with Fae folk its cool to see them not as cutesy little tinkerbells.
This is very good, and so different.
Good story and good reading
Thanks!
Almost two hours in and absolutely nothing happened so far. I'm not going to bore myself further with vague descriptions of decluttering a house, slightly strange behaviour from a senile man and oddly daft dog.
Brilliant ❤
I love your cat, would like to see more of them 😅, plus I am adding fruit of the dead to my TBR as it looks my kind of crazy. I went book shopping and got the familiar by leigh bardugo and it made me soooooo happy🎉
🎉WOOOHHOOOO🎉 THANKS!!
She does a great job if if dont like the she does stop listening she does terrific job she sounds real person not just reading
I loved it
This not ai narrator buman does great joi would listen to any book she narrator
Noooo… not creepy dolls!😱
It’s wonderful to hear excellent narration and I’m stuck on the story.
75% thru just blank. Grrr
The narrator and the humour of the protagonist kept me interested for awhile, but I wasn't sufficiently interested in the outcome. Some of it could have been trimmed, but it's well written. Thanks.
One of those books where you can sleep through half and not miss anything. "I got up, I ate this, I walked the dog, I got a coffe, I threw stuff away, I met some people, read some things,...."
Riveting stuff.
6:23:34 so funny!😆she is so funny to me
If she doesn't ebay those dolls I'm gonna stop listening 🤣🤣🤣
Right! She just threw them all away!!
I thought this too. Even if she hated them she could make money!! I don't like creepy dolls either, BUT someone does! One man's trash is another man's treasure😂
² in😅wa
😂😂😂😂
46:27 rifled. This is the 8th audiobook in a row that has mispronounced the word rifled! I could let it slide if they're A.I. but regular humans, shouldn't be doing that with such a simple word!
Other than that, this book is hilariously awesome!!!
She also uses the word effigy and poppet way too much!
I thought you were gonna be wrong, but you are correct! Nobody pronounces "rifled" so that it rhymes with Biff. What?!! 8??
Agreed about "effigy." I haven't listened to this yet, but I'm guessing "effigy" should be used at most twice in a 300- or 400-page novel. I may return and edit this with more comments on "effigy" and "poppet" if I think of something.

Thanks for the heard, Sondra. I have returned. I fell asleep to this one, which was the plan, as I was using it for soporific porpoises. (My spell check says fine; tell your spell check to shup.) Anyway, that was the first and last listen. Just not my style.
The word is riffle. It's used correctly and she pronounces it correctly. Look it up. Rifle is a different word.
@@bebe1341the word is rifle and its pronounced incorrectly!

I didn’t like it. I kept falling asleep or think of other things.
Ok she decided to dump them. I will not listen to the rest of the book
Narrator seems to have a breathing problem. The constant pauses are annoying.
It's like she lost her place or something.
Omg. Too wordy. Get to the point.
Can't be interested in your protagonist.
I use "whom"...and that is the last straw.
I disliked the bizarre usage of British English, the cutesy "I'm an amateur" style and all those attempts at humor but this is not worth my attention.
We're crushed
Bad AI narration
