Bluetooth transmitter-receiver combo BT600 - transmitting sound over BT without compatible equipment

    I tested the stereo modes again:
    In transmitter mode is joins both channels and sends a mono signal
    In receiver mode it plays ONLY left channel on left and right channel (right channel is completely lost)
    So, in the end it's mono at best :(
    Even though it's not amazing, it may be great for incorporating BT capability into old devices due to it's size.
    I think this BT600 model designation is meant to be a fake Platronics BT600 www.poly.com/u...

    I made the same configuration, but one on a old TV (TX) and other on a 2.1 system (RX). Besides the mono experience, I'm facing some delay between the image and sound. Do you experienced as well?

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, I used those only for podcasts, but when I connected the another transmitter to the TV there was some kind of delay (maybe 0.2-0.3s). When I tried older headphones (BT 2.0 or 1.X, I can't remember) it was ok. I think when it uses some kind of more efficient codec it takes longer to process and causes a delay.

    Hi,
    Great video and detailed explanation! It helps me a lot to make the same solder bridge on my device in order the receiving mode to be first, once the device is turned on. Now I am kind of struggling the fact, that any single time, when I power it (I am using it in my car), there is a voice welcoming message “Receiving mode”, which drives me crazy. Its not a big deal, but it is annoying. Do you know how this message could be remove or deleted somehow? I am not into this field and am not sure even is this technically possible? Many thanks in advance!
    Regards

      I think it's a part of ROM in that chip, so no options here since it's very integrated.
      I had another device with separate memory chip and when I disconnected the signal line the device refused to start completely. I could disconnect the memory chip AFTER starting the device and it was quiet, but woudn't start without it.

      @@pandaengineering It is very interesting, because if I'm not mistaken, the whole message is "Bluetooth receiving mode", or something like that. I do not remove the button, only made this solder bridge. And once I turned on the ignition of the car I can hear like the 60% of the message "Ecieving mode".... Even Receiving is not sounding complete. I am not sure if there is some delay in the noise, or somehow I managed to terminate partly the message (probably not)? But anyway... If someone put some more light in the case, of find out something will be pretty useful.

    The two of them just paired up instantly? Because i tried connecting my BT earphone to this device but they do not pair

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes when that happens I turn of both, turn them on again, put headphones into pairing and then it works. For my newer headphones I had to buy BT 5.0 compatible transmitter. I have no idea why it didn't worked with the old one.

    • @trext888
      @trext888 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pandaengineering this device is also BT 5.0 right?

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @trext888 these two (if I remember correctly now) were BT 3.0. I don't think the BT version matters that much, since it's all supposed to be backward compatible, I think they might be missing some pairing protocol functions and that was the main cause, seems that name brand headphones are more picky about the transmitter.

    It appears the headphone port is the only audio out. Not a very sophisticated CD player (Sharp). Wonder if that will work? But I presume that will mute the regular speakers?

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should work just fine, try the lower volumes first. From my expirience it works best at 30-50% of max volume. Most players will disable the speakers once you connect to the headphone jack, but you're right, some need a separate mute.

    I am not sure if ALL BT modules only transmit in mono but i have now bought four different modules and they ALL transmit only mono from my stereo laptop. It's strange because my laptop BT card DOES transmit in stereo. If you could put one of them in a case and power it, it would be OK. The modules do sound decent though as they transmit in both ears, just not in stereo. I guess it is because most uses are only mono anyway, like BT speakers, etc.

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've bought recently something similar (although 5x as much expensive) with BT 5.0 support and it works in stereo. Looking at the chip datasheet it seems to be much easier to set it up for mono and I think this is the case here.

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, I did something like that around 3:00
      Keep in mind that sound quality won't be great and after I tested those afterwards it's only left channel transmitted as mono on the output (so it plays left channel on both right and left of the output).

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usb here is only for powering the device and if it still delivers power to the usb during CD playback it should work fine just fine. Some players only power the USB when plaing from it as source.

    • @pandaengineering

      If the CD player cannot power the transmitter, you'll have to use another power source. Wall charger or even power bank will work just fine.

      What is Ad2p profile?

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @davidmike3923 You can think of Bluetooth profiles like device types for USB. Bluetooth is a general protocol, but profile would describe its capabilities. A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) is basically what you have in any Bluetooth headphones and speakers that provide higher quality audio (could be mono to stereo and no microphone support). In the early days(and on the extremely cheap end) of Bluetooth there were earpieces supporting only Headset Profile (HSP). These were low quality, mono only but with a microphone to support calls. My Logitech Zone Vibe 100 headphones (even though they are fairly modern) suddenly drop audio quality whenever someone is calling me and this is because it switches audio from A2DP to HSP. Usually modern speakers and headphones support both profiles, but this transmitter seems to be limited to A2DP only with a basic codec (I would expect that it supports SBC codec only).

    • @pandaengineering
      @pandaengineering  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      USB is only used for powering this device so you still need to use the audio jack as an input/output for sound. I used power banks for the video, because it doesn't matter where you plug the devices in. If pressing the little button doesn't change the light color, I think it's possible that you got a receiver only device.
      When you will be able to set it into transmitter mode, connect it to headphone out of your laptop and put your headphones into pairing mode.
