Seems fairly certain Russia would have been absolutely obliterated had the West decided to continue marching eastward (with or without nukes). Germany (and Russia itself) had already severely wounded the East. And where do you think Russia got much of their resources and technology? The West. WWIII didn't immediately follow WWII - and if we're honest, the hault of Western expansion probably saved millions of people in the East who were just trying to survive and live their lives - the whole thing was insanity.

Not only because he's a fast talker (you aren't sitting there impatiently thinking FOR GODS SAKE JUST SAY IT ) but also because he keeps it interesting and accessible to the average person; i.e. he knows exactly when to define a term or to give some background.
This podcast has stirred within me a deep longing for wisdom. I wish my mind had the capacity to understand the world as Marc does. I hope episodes becomes a regular occurrence.

The physicist who had the most impact, for me, was Enrico Fermi. He was a consummate pragmatist with impeccable theoretical skills. If you study nuclear physics, you can see the mark of his claw everywhere - just really good pragmatic approaches to impossible problems that were solved in a way as to make the construction and development of devices possible. And, seemingly humble, with a good sense of humour too. It was the pragmatic types, the calculationists and experimentalists that got the job done, IMHO. Oppie, despite his hand wringing, was enough of a freak to be useful in marshalling the reasoned and generally benign intellects of the era into doing unspeakable things - a bit like Epstein and the whole shambles going on with that particular freak show. In fact, the Epstein freak show is just an extension of the Oppenheimer louche cannon shenanigans, there are entire cadres in the MIC dedicated to recruiting super smart people who get into cruelty and kink, as a litmus test of their wanton ability to get sketchy sh1t done, and propensity to be handled ala MKUltra trauma based mind control. No point in having a wild genius in the dungeon if they aren't yoked into the machine, one way or another, and bound in thrall by various persuasions of kompromat, eg skull and bones on psychedelic Kool-Aide ...
I got to see how amazon is pretty good at the constrained vision. But apple is very good at the unconstrained one. Happy to live in a world where both can exisit and the competition isnt bloody.

Very though provoking showI think one of the things that almost all institutions struggle with is governance. Ben and Marc refer to constrained vision. For example, balance of power between the different branches of government is an attempt at governance. Governance is often confused with control and dampening of innovation.
But why do societies have to be in these packaged templates? Communism or capitalism. Death and poverty or greed and consumption. Why not use the good attributes of all them?
Marc is totally wrong on implosion. Both the gun type and implosion type bombs were developed during the Manhattan, succeeded, and were used against Japan. Hiroshima was gun type, Nagasaki was implosion type. The physicists were so certain the gun type would work that they didn't even bother to test fire it. Doing so would have wasted one of the only three atomic bombs in existence at the time. Trinity tested the implosion type because it was much less certain to work. Marc may be confusing things with the fact that type won't work with plutonium 239 but will work with uranium 235.
Comparing a war time decision about weapon/tactics to the communism "end justifies means" is simply wrong. In war, you are ALWAYS making determinations of which strategy to use to minimize your own casualties.
I disagree when they say that the USA could not ramp up a war effort now compared to the 1940's and then discount what Operation warp Speed achieved. Operation warp Speed was exactly that.
The rationale for nuking is flawed. Soviet union was a tentative implementation of "communism"... mao's china was a tentative implementation of "communism"... an so on... Soviet union is not "communism"!!! china is not "communism"!!! The core of the "communism" concept is related to the idea that the "production means" should not be private!!! "Communism" has no standard country to be pointed as "communism"... it is amazing how people forget what was achieved even with the wrong approaches/implementations. The soviet countries were brought from medieval state directly to sputnik, and other feats! These two guys would profit seeing classes from professor richard wolff.
These political labels are so oversimplified and confusing - e.g., Hitler was an ardent socialist, and apparently quite a good economist, judging by Germany's industrial revival. Theories on resource distribution in general - capitalism, socialism, communism, etc - don't seem too descriptive or predictive of nation's well-being.
Jesus was NOT a communist! 😂 He was first and foremost the Son of the Most High, and His allegiance’s began and ended with His Father’s will. He most certainly loved His neighbor as Himself, but it would be communism aspiring to His ideals, and not the other way around.
