My dad had high cholesterol and heart problems most of his adult life (along with a few heart attacks and a triple bypass). I blame the nutrition industry directly for his health woes. I can distinctly remember in the 60's we switched from butter to "oleo" margarine, ate everything low-fat - even cutting the fat from our meat etc. Yet it never did any good. He passed away from congestive heart failure. I was getting overweight and exercised and dieted and ran daily never seeing any improvement. A year-and-a-half ago switched to keto - lost 45 pounds in 3 months- my good and bad cholesterol evened out and a myriad of other physical ailments disappeared in a matter of weeks. It works! The health industry are at best incompetent and at worst compliant with an INDUSTRY bent on making money.

I have FH and I could eat grass and it makes no difference. My LDL was 390 Total over 500. I did have to go on a Double dose of a PCSK9 Inhibitor as my only way to reduce in the face of heart and vascular disease. If cholesterol were the MAIN problem with heart disease I would already be dead. I’m 61. Statins did about kill me and affected my brain badly. So listen to this advice I’ve lived it. I’m working on low-carb diet and insulin resistance as best course of action. I also have high Lp(a) that does not get reduced with anything.

After taking antibiotics, one year, I became hyper sensitive to grain. I spent over a year being so sick and losing so much weight, people were startled. No docs could diagnose, I just stopped eating wheat and grains and switched to nuts. Not keto, just no grains at all, except white rice on occasion. I don't worry about my BP, cholesterol or weight anymore. Yes, it's the carbs. In particular all the carbs we eat that are breads which also contain sugar. They have GMO'd grains to death. No pun intended.

I’ve had high cholesterol for decades. I also have MS. The myelin shield that is attacked by MS is made of cholesterol and taking statins further causes increased problems with that. My understanding is that coronary plaques are made from calcium, not cholesterol. If so, we should be taking Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2, because K helps D to steer calcium into your bones, not your arteries or kidneys. And carbohydrates cause a multitude of health problems including heart attacks. Cutting out gluten entirely and lowering carbohydrates has fantastic health benefits.

Thank you, @Florida-is-my-home! This is the first I've heard of D3/K2 steering calcium into the bones. Dr Paul Mason (Low Carb Down Under) has a YT video explaining how, after 2 years of statin-use, the calcium-score starts to rise, which increases the risk of atherosclerosis, rather than lowering it. I'm going to up my D3/K2 dosage.

My PCP started caring for me in 2008. I had a 73 GFA at that point. Within 18 months he managed to destroy my kidneys with crestor to the tune of getting my GFR down to 42. He lowered my cholesterol from 160 to under 100 at the cost of catastrophic kidney function loss to me. We argued about it and he denied statins were the cause of the catastrophic kidney function reduction. I decided to ignore him and have stopped all statins ever since. The result was that my kidney function slowly increased from 42 back up to 59 but that took 7 years. I may have FH. I have rare AB+ blood (2% of population) so that may be a factor. To his surprise, I chose to risk dying from a heart attack over being on dialysis by my mid fifties. All I really needed to be told was to stop all sugar!!!

I stopped taking them about 10 years ago because I was convinced they were causing me more issues that they were stopping and my cholesterol levels were only slightly higher than the average anyway. Luckily, I had already found your channel a few years back too so I already do keto & fasting, I take Niacin as you've recommended it before and I take wheatgerm oil as my vitamin E supplement. Honestly, I've never been in better health than I am now and I'm 39. Just goes to show, you don't need to be an 'expert' to take in information and apply it to your own needs. As a carnivore and someone with FH, I urge you to get your bloodwork done before starting a new diet. Getting a CAC scan is a good idea too - they’re only $100 (a bargain for peace of mind and a LOT less than stent surgery!). I see some people having heart attacks after starting a low carb diet and blaming the diet when they likely had arterial issues before they started it. My total cholesterol has always been high and went up to over 500 on carnivore, but I have zero plaque buildup. I’m keeping an eye on it and if that changes, I’ll cross that bridge later. Note: I’ve never smoked, no insulin resistance, no chronic stress, etc.

I have breakdowns often because being on keto raised my LDL even higher but I can't tolerate carbs cuz they give me palpation now. My last blood test was: LDL 208, TG 90, HDL 60, VLDL 16. A1c was 5.5 & my calcium score CAC was 0. When I went on keto my LDL went from 133 to 208 within 2 years. My dad has been on a statin since he was 40. Now he's 65. I don't want to take a statin. I intermittent fast, still eat a cross between keto paleo. Sometimes eat oats. I take plant sterols 2000mg a day now. I'm actually waiting for my new labs to see if the sterols have helped. I eat eggs and avocado every morning to break my fast and it hold me till dinner. If I eat anything g else like greek yogurt & nuts I am hungry before dinner. I maxed out dosing on statins with no benefit. Moved to Vytorin with great decrease in overall numbers but I feel like garbage most of the time (brain fog, muscle aches, low stamina ect). Started with PCSK9 in combo with Vytorin and numbers are now at the low side of "normal". As a result my hormomes are disregulqted, libido has tanked and and I still don't feel great. Learning the importance of cholesterol in the body, Keto, and IF. I am now going AMA off some of my meds because I believe most of my problems are as a direct result of the meds. My HGbA1C is 4.8%, so no issues there. I have also been studying the Keto lifestyle and OMAD (as Keto has knocked out my appetite completely). Thank you for sharing, your story is pretty interesting. There is evidence that statins increase mortality and disregulate many normal physiological processes in your body. My Dr is pushing me to get on Lipitor aggressively when I had rock bottom trigs, and above normal HDL but 209 for LDL. I've never been tested for FH but everything I look up and lectures on youtube show that there is NO reason to take a statin at my age and the side effect are signficant. It wouldn't surprise if lots of people that have "normal range" LDL who get a pat on the back but actually if they are eating lots of sugar and refined carbs... they creating the conditions to do more damage with their lower LDL than someone on LCHF diet eating whole foods with a higher LDL. We have been lied to by industry for decades. I wish you the best health regardless.

I have to say I feel better than I ever have. My triglycerides are 69. My doctor keeps trying to put me on a statin. The last time my feet and joints hurt so bad. I could barely walk. If you knew me, you would know I am a very active person. Off the statins no problem with moving. I am taking your gallbladder medicine. It seems to help my digestion. Thank you. Found I have 440 total cholesterol and 370 LDL last month. Took low dosage statin (rosuvastatin 5mg) and ezetimibe (10mg) for 3 weeks along with major lifestyle change and the figures dropped dramatically to 170 total and 114 LDL. HDL also dropped from 50 to 42. TG dropped from 128 to 70. But I don't feel any healthier to be honest, psychologically relieved either. After since I knew that I'm probably an FH patient I experienced several times of panic attacks. I am 31, I look into the mirror to see if my arcus rings are getting bigger every single hour, and am suffering from fear of sudden death.
My mum also has super high cholesterol around 400, and my aunt sometimes over 900. They both are well, never had heart issues yet in their late 50s. No known case of early heart event or stroke within family.

I was diagnosed with FCHL. I tried the carnivore and keto diets for six months and vegan diet for 30 days (that's all I could stand doing). All of my lipid numbers kept going in the wrong direction on the keto and carnivore diets. My LDL, TC and Trig's went up and my HDL went down. The Trig/HDL ratio got over 10! When I went vegan, surprisingly, all of my numbers returned to being "in the green", I lost a bunch of weight around my mid-section (my waist returned to what it was in high school), and I felt WAY better. The only problem was that being on a vegan diet was a PITA and I absolutely hated it. Trying to find a happy medium now.

Trying to navigate not not wanting to take cholesterol meds, going carnivore and in the gym 5 days per/week. I am a 45 year old female. I did have the indepth lipid panel and showed very high levels of small particle. I have been told I am NOT a candidate for CAC since I have resiual calcium from valve replacement (was a Bentall procedure due to porcelain aortic root and ascening aorta, calcium on coronart artery buttons).

My mother really bought into what the doctors told her. She took statins most of Her adult life Because of a genetic disposition to have really high cholesterol. She actually had 2 heart attacks and numerous stents put in. she had even had a triple bypass on the last one. All the while the doctors were saying her cholesterol was low due to the statens but nothing they did eliminated that cholesterol. I swim in the ocean for miles each week and weigh 115 pounds. I have done intermittent fasting for many years and ate a perfect diet. When they said you have super high cholesterol we need to start you on statins right away - I told them what they could do with that idea. I have Successfully used the Linus Pauling method Along with taking natural form of vitamin E To prevent strokes. Last time they did a scan of my arteries they could not find any Substantial amounts of cholesterol in any artery. The important thing to find out is if you actually even have cholesterol blocking your arteries. Doctors don't like to do scans to find that out as I guess it's insurance companies don't want to pay for it.

I have a high cholesterol family. Both grandmothers take statins. Tried reducing my HIGH cholesterol at age 25 with submerged chopped up garlic in ~80 proof alcohol and drinking a tablespoon in the morning. That reduced my cholesterol two-fold after a month. Father advised to exercise with heavy weights (he has his cholesterol under control that way, while his brother is suffering from it and is obese), going to do bloodwork soon to see if it has any effect on me. Also tried keto (for half a year) and intermittent fasting (longest fast was around 80 hours). That didn't seem to help that much according to bloodwork. Everyone is different and is important to do objective tests to see if it has any impact. Stay healthy.

Have high cholesterol, I did the statin for a year, and it dropped by a good large portion. I then went off of the meds for a year and it's back to the same levels as before.
I don't eat a lot of garbage food, rarely any bread, majority is fruits,/veggies/meat.
Sometimes I dip into the cookie jar, and or booze. Not like pounding it down. Both parents have had it also.
I know it's all will power as far as diet goes.
I never felt weird on statin, I also exercise regularly six days a week.

This post is of high interest since I have all the FH markers. After 200+ days IF & OMAD the BMI is now just over 22 and T2D is in remission with HbA1C at 5.1%. BP is significantly lower by keeping strictly to healthy Keto and using all the recommended nutrients listed here except for policosanols 🧐 As expected my MD recommends statins, however these play havoc on balance, strength & endurance. I will be reviewing the supplied links here and the summary information is much appreciated as always! Thanks for raising awareness 😉

Do you have FH too? What is your ldl and total cholesterol? My ldl is 350 and my total is 440 and I just found out I have FH. I do not want to take any statins and all the drs are freaking out that. One Dr said I need to find out if I have FH stat and if I did then I have to go on statins immediately. I said I will take the test but am not going to agree to going on statins. They got the results of my FH so the office already called me that I have to come in bc I know he wants to insist that I have no choice and have to take statin now. I’m not going to but still worried that I have FH but I’m so glad Dr berg made this video

    • @rayshoesmith
      @rayshoesmith ปีที่แล้ว

@@lghop82 I'm still awaiting the test to confirm FH.
My LDL came back as not applicable because the triglycerides were so high at 14nmol/l, my HDL was 0.8 nmol/l.
Incidently my testosterone had also crashed to 7nmol/l which the doctor thinks it may have caused the spike in my triglycerides, I'm 8 weeks into TRT so hopefully this will help.
I would advise against statins, I've read a few books that explain that statins only reduce LDL but leave in VLDL (the bad oxidised LDL)
The book is called "the clot thickens ".
This will answer many if not all questions you may have, I gave my doctor the book to read, needless to say he nolonger tries to shove statins down my throat.
A relatively cheap way for peace of mind is to do a CAC test at the hospital, this will show the calcium build up in the arteries, its a very good indicator

Imagine going to a car mechanic to fix a noise in the engine and are given a pair of ear plugs as the solution to the problem; today's doctors wouldn't have that type of service right? I always had high cholesterol so the doctor talked me into taking statins and I stopped eating eggs, butter, & saturated fat. My cholesterol was now low, but my triglycerides shot up to 269. I started feeling miserable and had no energy at all. I could not run 50 feet and wanted to sleep all the time. I developed glaucoma and lost half my vision in one eye.
A year ago I stopped taking statins and went on the Keto Diet with intermittent fasting. I now eat 4 eggs a day, lots of butter, and saturated fat. I lost 55 pounds and feel great! My cholesterol is back to being high but my triglycerides are now down to 64. My Tri/HDL ratio is now 1.1/1. I can now run 2 miles a day and have lots of energy.

What about carbs prepared with the 3 S’s? Soaked, soured, and/ or sprouted. Having no grains or carbs causes heart attacks in humans and dogs, look at Dr. Atkins vs. Dr. Weston A. Price. The problem in the US especially is that the carbs are not properly prepared or predigested with the 3 S’s, like sourdough.

    People with FH need to
    1) Take a maximum dose potent statin, ezetimibe, and/or a PCSK-9 inhibitor.
    2) Be on a low saturated fat diet.
    3) Avoid dietary sterols if they are hyper-absorbers of cholesterol and phytosterols.
    4) Keep total cholesterol well under 200 mg/dL and LDL well under 50 mg/dL.
    5) If you have the ApoE4 allele, you especially need to avoid saturated fat and cholesterol.
    6) Even if your cholesterol and LDL are low, you would still have adequate cholesterol for your cells.
    7) Eat a low carbohydrate diet of lean meats, fish, vegetables, avocado, and olive oil while avoiding saturated fat and animal foods high in cholesterol.
