    I think LGR might be interested in this, at the very least he could do a video on it to get you some more traction.

      I know he has a PCjr but I remember it was working so I don't know if he could use one. I would be more than happy to send him one, but for this first batch I want to make sure people who can actually need them are getting them. I'm not even keeping one for myself out of this batch because I know I'll have more later.

    • @jaanarturviirsalu7627
      @jaanarturviirsalu7627 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have more later, then you can send him one, in case his power supply dies(he is testing his new game(Planet x3) on his pcJr) because he is probably using it pretty much every day!

      I don't think that david needs a PSU for the PC Jr since he already has one from his donation

    • @eduardoavila646
      @eduardoavila646 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Probably the voltages will be way more stable in the pico psu/new atx psu and with way less ripple, so its probably a good thing to replace even in a working original pc junior psu, keep it but use in the pc jr the pico psu, it would preserve the pc jr way more, and even have way less risk of capacitor damage.

    Next would you do this for iMac G4 “Sunflower” PSU’s replacement, sir?

    • @nate5862
      @nate5862 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think he even has one. Maybe if you sent him one he would be inclined. Otherwise you're out of luck. The most advice I can give is maybe checking the pinout on the imac sunflower and modifying his design to fit your needs.

    • @piecaruso97
      @piecaruso97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      power macs g4 used different kinds of psus, not the same kind for each g4, with different kind of connectors specs, and also direct pin adapter, which just takes atx 24 pin connetor and rearranges the wires in a power mac power connector, to match the pinout of the connector, can give some small problems in some machines, so i think that the original powersupply must be reverse egneneed to seome degree to creare a proper and issues free atx adapter that for me would require some power regulation or some logic missing in normal atx units

    • @retrox684
      @retrox684 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I you look up your model number you can probably find a psu pin out. But if your iMac has a dead psu it might not be worth it because when psus go they like to take a lot of other parts with them

    It's amazing how much the power consumption of gaming-grade personal computers has risen over the years.
    Computing power too, but at least recently the power consumption has outpaced the performance gains.
    I mean, the PCjr probably doesn't even use 80 watts, since it was still using a regular old 60hz laminated iron transformer instead of the much higher throughput high freqency switch-mode transformers being used these days inside of ATX power supplies.

    I spotted an insignificant but real error in the silkscreen. YBBR means yellow blue blue red. For yellow black black red the letters should be YKKR. Very nice project, for people who own a PCjr I reckon it's pretty much a must-have at one point or another.

    You can make the back panel brackets quicker by making a silicone mold and casting resin. Smooth-On Onyx sets up fast enough that several pieces per hour could be cast in one mold.

    it's amazing how a new psu can work with a computer thats over 30 years old

    • @gamewizard1760
      @gamewizard1760 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. A newer style PSU would deliver a cleaner power signal than the older ones and generate less heat. The older computer would probably work better and the components last longer than with the clunky original power supply.

    With the PicoPSU, don't use the cheapest 12 Volt AC/DC adapter you can find to save some bucks. Cheapo ones have too much ripple that will slowly kill things.

    Hey Akbkuku, did you used blender on windows before? If yes did you notice any performance differences? Because my linux hdd died last month, but i can't seem to run a 1080p 60fps nvenq video in blender in windows without lagging, it can only play it back at 21fps even following any performance guides i could find. (i even tried enabling my gtx1060 in blender configurations).
    But when i installed kubuntu into a old 5400rpm laptop drive, used the default xorg open source driver, and even without messing with any config at all i was able to play it back and edit the same file at 60fps.
    I can't buy right now a hdd to install my linux back, and i have to give back the hdd to my laptop, so do you know whats wrong here? I have the latest drivers for my 1060, i have a well cooled i5 7500, 8gb of 2x (4gb 2400mhz ram) and a seagate 7200rpm 3tb drive.

    • @TechTangents
      @TechTangents  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't tried it on Windows yet. I know someone with a GTX 970 setup running Windows and I plan on doing a performance comparison on there to see if GPU rendering can be faster on a budget than CPU rendering. I'll probably live boot linux on there as well and run the same tests and get some performance metrics for the OS as well.
      Are you using proxy files though? I find using 25% proxy files is 100% full FPS on basically any somewhat modern(down to core 2 quad) computer.

    • @eduardoavila646
      @eduardoavila646 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AkBKukU I was going to try the proxy files, but i had the idea of testing in linux and saw that in linux i had basically more than 3x the performance.
      I will try to use the proxy files on windows while i dont get my new linux hdd, i will post here the results.

    • @eduardoavila646
      @eduardoavila646 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested right now, and 25% proxy worked like a charm. It used only 10% of the cpu and about 20-30%of the gpu at a solid 60fps. I think even 50% would be possible. thx for the help!
      But i will probably get a linux hdd as soon as possible to install linux into my main pc again.

    There is an extremly high pitch noise of the CRT, if you are going to mage video usig PCjr, could you filter it out.
    PS I'm 18, if you are older you propably won't hear it.

    • @TechTangents
      @TechTangents  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I really thought I had, but I found the problem. I forgot the bootup sound got removed by accident at one point and ended up on it's own audio track. i.imgur.com/d1Jc1Pj.jpg I forgot to put the processing filters on that track. I can hear it, but it's not ear splitting for me like everyone who seems to mention it. I think young people now are more sensitive to it because they didn't grow up with it. Based on all the comments I see about it now, you would think that school kids in computer labs with dozens of CRTs would have been rolling on the floor wincing in pain. But I can tell you from first hand experience that's not what happened, you just tuned it out. I hear it, but I don't notice it. So it's hard for me to actively think the thought "I need to filter this out". I will try to add a step to my work flow in the future where I look over the audio as a render spectrogram before release so it is more obvious when I miss this.

    • @TechLeftBehind
      @TechLeftBehind 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm 19 years old, and the CRT whine doesn't really bother me either. I can hear it, but it's easy to ignore. For me, I guess that could be attributable to using a CRT on my PC until about the age of 10. Could also be that I have tinnitus and CRT whine is basically a far quieter sound of about the same frequency...

    • @chloedevereaux1801
      @chloedevereaux1801 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yup here in england we have security systems that use the same frequency noise to stop kids from hanging around public or private places.the sound makes you feel headachy and sick.... only affects under 20yr olds as they're super susceptible to the sound :)

    • @jacekjagosz
      @jacekjagosz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am oversensitive to sounds. I made a silent evaporation cooler for my PC just to get rid of fan noise.
      I know most people don't really care, but as he works with old technology I just wanted to remind him, as it irritates some people. Especially as I know he already did it in his previous videos.

    • @amyshaw893
      @amyshaw893 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its mainly because the hairs in your ears that let you hear start to become less functional as you age, and thus only younger people can hear it. im 17, and while crt noise isnt painful, its certainly annoying. I used a computer with a crt when i was younger, and i dont remember how annoying it was, but yeah, i can definately hear it. tom scott did a video about the noise, and i think he added a method to remove the noise, but i forget exactly
