Been watching your content for a while. I don't sub easily, but you've earned it. In fact, you bumped Shut Up & Sit Down. If you're ever in Canada, you have a spot at my game table. I got Whistle Mountain a couple of weeks ago. Only had the chance to have 1 play through so far, but loved it.
I love this game. I did modify the bottom water tile with a strip underneath so the scafolding wouldn't be pushed under that first tile. But other than that the game looks and plays great. Glad you finally got the chance to play it and find out what the fuss was about.
I played this one time so far and it definitely has some OP player powers. One player had the architect power and had double everyone else’s points about 3/4 into the game. I eventually closed the gap somewhat but still lost by about 20 points I think. Like you said though , this is one of the few games that I felt an itch to try again right after playing. It has so many possibilities. I’m definitely keeping it.
I have watched many reviews on this and have not heard a bad thing about it. Everyone loves it and I agree it looks great. Unfortunately the people I play games with (a very select few friends and my wife) don't like Engine building games with lots of iconography so it is unlikely I will ever get to play this. I don't think I can justify buying this as it is almost guaranteed not to be a hit with my group, as much as I want to own it! Thanks for the review though Luke
Another good review Luke. I like the look of the game and the mechanics are up my street. I like a well layed out rule book as I learn all my games from the rule book. Is it heavier than Wingspan? Lighter than Trajan?
I'd say it's on the same level as Wingspan in terms of weight. The actions are pretty straightforward except for Build Station which may take 1-2 goes to get it right but otherwise it's not particularly complex.
Do NOT give Luke any more caffeinated drinks before he reviews a game. Enthusiasm level nearly cracked my iPhone screen. Shame he ended up hating the game though. Lol.

It depends on what combos come out relaly and with what players and machines - the game can turn out so differently each time. -

Hmmm, better than Lost Ruins of Arnak. . . . hard to say - but it's on the Retrospective 2020 List for sure!
Arnak is good but a couple more plays and I am pretty sure we will have played it out. As good as it is a similar experience each time
