I really feel bad for chi chi , they should have built this relationship more coz they don't have much screen time in any part of Dragonball story and really messed up Chi-Chi's character when she was so nice and loved goku in DB.
Me too. And now she no longer has her heroic husband. 😢 I wish the good-byes were written a little better. Especially with ChiChi. They didn't have to make Goku's goodbye to ChiChi romantic or anything, but at least let him tell her that he may never come back and thank her for everything. Something similar to Krillin and Piccolo. And I agree with you on Goku's relationship with ChiChi. It just wasn't done justice. Sure, we get a sweet childhood romance, a cute if a little awkward proposal and a beautiful wedding in the original Dragon Ball. 💕 And we get some sweet and touching moments between Goku and ChiChi, special shout-out to the moment after Goku recovers from the heart virus in Dragon Ball Z. 💕 But we didn't get much after that. And this is such a bummer for me because I think Goku and ChiChi have a great relationship. 💖 Granted, it was put to the test more times than anyone can count, but it was still a great relationship when it came down to it. 💖 And ChiChi herself had some sparkle to her, but never reached her full potential. ❤ ChiChi deserves better in my opinion.
@@PrincessQ-fj9lyGoku only married Chi Chi to keep a childhood promise he made by mistake. It's not that he doesn't love her, but Toriyama said he doesn't view her any different from say, Krillin. More as a best friend and mother of his children than a romantic partner.
Another aspect that could've led up to this link between Goku and Shen Long would be the purification of Si Xing Long (or Nuova Shenron in the dub). There was clearly some merging between the two beyond the purification after Goku swallowed the Dragon Ball with it manifesting on his head, likely being what caused the link between he and the Dragon Balls.
@@fr0zerter Shen Long is the more correct name due to its literal meaning in Chinese as Dragon God and its in-universe usage with Goku piecing together Shen's true identity as Kami due to this meaning. Shenron is merely an attempted Japanese transliteration of it that doesn't translate the wordplay over too well, hence why the Viz manga made the right decision in using the Chinese name and why I choose to.
GT is underrated. Yes, it has its weird elements, but I always love the experiments and philosophy/metaphors in it. There was a lot of deep thought put in GT. As a kid, I managed to track down illegal copies of subtitled Japanese GT vhs tapes from ebay and a local comic book store in order to watch it before it was dubbed and aired on tv. It's how I watched it. I always appreciated the attention it paid to the Sayan history and mythology, the fact it brought back android 17 as an important character, the tuffles and the imperialism of the sayian race, and the fact Earth was overly dependent on magical wish granting orbs. It's also refreshing that they brought up OG Dragon ball references often.
I love than you still share your faith in Christ even during something that doesn't entail Him in something like DragonBall! 👍👍 Its awesome to see brother, so keep up the faith & witnessing to people through your love of DB bro
I thought that Goku died only for Shenron to save him in spirit form. The main reason for thinking that is that his clothes were left behind even though we saw him still wearing clothes.
yes you're right. Remember that the scene which bardock was offered wish to namekian's dragon. He didn't believe to shooting star but ended with he wished that his children would survive. That's why goku whenever goes always surrounded by this cursed wish.
That goku not being alive after the negative bomb it gives me shivers. :D Man when you watch ashita no joe you can really see how many animes and japanese stories it influenced.
Is there any other anime that has the same aspect where the main character “transcends” the natural physics of the living world in Goku's case and became one with the eternal dragon. I know that many anime's are influence from Daoism and Buddhism.
So basically he died during that Negative Ball blast but he willed his way out to stop the ball. His soul threw the spirit bomb and then he merged with Shenron to purify the DBs until it was release again after 100yrs in the Goku Jr. Time?
I mean Super borrowed a lot of ideas from GT. In Super during the Tournament of Power. When Jiren deflected Goku’s Spirit Bomb Goku went into an Ultra Instinct state and he may have absorbed his own spirit bomb. The possibility of Goku absorbing Omega Shenron may have had a similar affect be as though Goku as a super saiyan 4 was very close to being a Super Saiyan God (Super Saiyan).
He obsorbed spirit bombs to give him energy energy to not use ui, he became ui by transcending his limits going past his limits when hit by his own spirit bomb When he did that he became ui
@@goblinslayer2318 that was basically what I said. The only way that could be debunked is when Goku fought Vegeta when he first attempted the Spirit Bomb, Or pure energy attacks just affect pure of heart opponents differently or where the pure energy comes from when making a spirit bomb. Frieza and Majin (Kid) Buu was affected differently. Kid disintegrated probably because he didn’t have a heart. Frieza didn’t, just a theory, because he cares about something deep seeded but he still had an evil nature just like Vegeta.
@@goblinslayer2318 the spirit bomb doesn’t harm people that are pure of heart though. And I’m pretty sure it’s safe to assume Goku’s pure of heart. This was explained in the Saiyan Saga when Gohan rebounded the mini spirit bomb that krillen threw and missed.
It's weird in a way. I always found dragon balls story to not be anything special. Then an ending like this threw me off when I was young, I couldn't grasp it and dismissed it as a bad ending. Turns out it was just complex and I actually like it. Still feel bad for everyone one else though 😕
Because it was heavely, heavely and really heavely implied by the Author that he wanted Goku to retire and Gohan to become the protagonist. But fanbois and Execs pressured him so hard, he relented and kept Goku even when he is a 70 year old man.
Great video. I laughed at the part when ChiChi asked Goku if he will be home for dinner. Nope. 😆 Also, love the part about Daoism and Christianity. I see a lot of religious elements in Dragon Ball. Things make more sense if people understand the culture of Japan or any culture and why they use certain elements in their media compared to our own. I am not religious, but love learning about religion. Religion is part of any culture and I love to learn about cultures. Anyways, keep up the great work. #Enders
Thank you Kari, I'm glad you enjoyed this one and the funny parts "worked" out ahhaa. DB is full of religious references, I hope to cover more of them in the future :)
Maybe thousands years ago, there were a LEGENDARY HERO that live similar life like Goku...named Shenron, previuos Dragon named, Kuma perhabs. Goku became next Dragon
Dragons are created by the Dragon Clan Namekians so they dont have a direct link to any mortal in the universe. Shenron is literally a statue that Dende could power up depending on the power of the creator of the dragon balls
I think if goku was able to go back to earth and leave shenron, then I would see the battle of the gods happening, but with a more op goku, and probably a tired beerus.
This ascended Goku is too strong for the gods of DBS. And I don't think he still has his "fighting spirit", since he used his own positivity to counter the negativity and balance everything inside him. So he would just watch.
4:54 He does mention collecting all 7 Balls for a wish to work. He also says to Jr. he's surprised Pan didn't tell him. I do like the theory though of Pan going out of her way not to tell him about the 7 Balls so that there's not an over-reliance on them again and the cycle of Her's & Goku's time doesn't repeat itself. The issue with this though is the *100 years* gap between that film and the end of GT. It's so stupid. Are you telling me nothing major happens between that time gap that they're not used again, and Jr. doesn't find out ? He's not exactly a new-born baby.
I could see how, mainly because alot of Gokus villians were domino effects from past actions. Raditz remebering him is what set off Vegeta. Going to Namek is what had them confront Frieza. Cell/Androids were created for sole purpose of revenge against Goku for the Red Ribbon Army. Buu was probably the only villian in DBZ that had nothing to do with Goku and was just happenstance. Earth in that universe isnt a well known planet so I could see little to no Planetary threats being prevelant. Especially if the stories of Goku and the Z-fighters got lost or forgotten over the years, the dragonballs are basically fairytails by this point.
I mean I kinda felt like at some point goku was going to be officially canon god level and not just in a super saiyan transformation and I feel like that the set up for the end of super for goku and vegeta due to their specific paths they are taking
Thanks! Yes the last few episodes of GT I really enjoyed and I thought were very well written. Especially the last episode, the best DB series ending in my opinion :)
@@saudbintalib5701 I still put DBGT above Super. I think we need to take into account that 1996 was a very different time. DBGT has the best music Background and OST as well as openings and endings and the design for SSJ4 is brilliant.
Basically the end of GT was ment to close the DragonBall series permanently like they tried with gohan (temporarily) inherenting goku's roll. Like they did with the ending of OG DragonBall. BUT as we all know with a fanbase THIS huge they couldn't let die because GOTTA KEEP SELLIN ALL THAT MERCH!!! so they shocked the series back to life and GT was made non canon....r.i.p SSJ4 maybe you'll come back....maybe...
I thought in the English ending of a hero’s legacy goku jr was wondering why he couldn’t summon shenron with just one to help pan but goku appears and says you need to gather all 7 dragon balls
@@saudbintalib5701 Good thanks Bro! Agreed, some ideas in the whole of DB aren't executed well. But gotta love the passion about them. I think we all want things to live up to OG and Z and won't happen unfortunately.
When I was younger I thought it was because Goku ate one, and since Shenron was summoned he had to be close by to the other Dragon balls. Only to realize Syn got his hands on the 7 balls to become Omega
This made me reflect on something. I've been a fan of the Dragon Ball franchise since 96. There was a significant amount of time for me from the end of GT to finding about super. From my perspective, they essential "Spike Spiegel'd" Goku. This has remained in my mind for quite some time. Rewatching this again through your review, Goku saying "I'll be right back," but came back 100 years later. He did come back in super eventually, to my shock and surprise. So, in a poetic sense, Goku did come back to all of us and his family, after some time. He said he was gonna. We all know how bad he is with time management.
I like how you end up add scripture to things. I told someone before that everything has a religious element to things. Like star wars, dragon ball gt, government and gangs use it.
I believe if the religion improves people's quality of life, it is better than no religion at all. The same way we need to eat wisely and to do physical activity to be fit and healthy our spirit also needs workout.
The Spirit Bomb was powered not by everyone elses energy but his pure life energy instead which made it incredily powerful. Goku prolly made a deal to leave with Shenron as long as he gets that one shot.
@@supermegadong7597Not that there not creative I mean last 2 arcs in super were good just very specific stuff ruined them for me it’s just dragon balls a cash grab now. Other shows do this too but not shows with serialized stories like dragon ball which makes it worse than it already was. Hell I don't see super ending soon and can’t imagine it will but hoping it can top GT in terms of feels and just give it Justice.
People want GT and Super to combined so much, just be happy that their separate, but only using pieces as a inspiration for the super story just like the broly movies (all thre movies are in their own movie dbz parallel universe ) and the super broly movie is the only one that’s cannon to the main story and is greatly inspired by the old broly movies
My theory is that Goku made a deal with Shenron to revive him when he was nearing death from Omegas Karma Ball and the deal is that Goku has to bear the responsibility of handling the dragon balls for all eternity.
king cold’s offering the universe to trunks on a hill may be a mockery of satan offering jesus the world if he would join satan. King Cold had a satanic demeanor. he should have had the freeze power the ice dragon had.
That wish only prevented goku and raditz from dying on planet vegeta. Goku and raditz still die in the future. Goku twice, and raditz hasn’t even been revived to thought off in years.
Yeah, their powers go against the laws of the mortal and spiritual world. So this means they come from a place with higher laws, they are basically doing the biding from the "god world". As we can see Porunga has more power, so in that world there are beings of different strength too.
In the japanese dub version, vegeta, roshi, and piccolo ask a similar question, “Goku, are you…”, after his fight with shenron. The English dub doesn’t mention that at all.
Thanks for the video and for using trust worthy sources of information as always. As you mentioned DBGT end was what they often call an open ending, meaning open to the interpretation of the viewer. I liked the part when you talked about keeping a balance and how we can be born again trough Jesuschrist.
Didn’t Goku basically become a dragon like Shen Ron he didn’t change in appearance but he didn’t necessarily go to other world or either like if you look at that comic book after Dragon Ball GT Goku can’t return to earth pikkon is there too at the dragon place But that’s where all the shadow dragons are
I personally love GT. I think its not fair to say that its not cannon. I look at GT like a "What If" Dragonball series. I think the second half of the series makes up for the first half. Its a fun story.
I think we all knew this, I did full well knowing when clicking on it... we just aren't sure how to accept it, kind of like death itself. We want an answer of some kind, so we still click, only for the suspicion to be confirmed. It is interesting to think about, that in the end Goku always ends up at Godhood, makes sense being inspired by Sun Wukong from Journey to the West. That Budha and Jesus, despite being East vs West, whether you're religious or not, were real people with beliefs that have so much in common. I wonder though, if and how Super/Daima will end, if it leaves GT open or will come to its own conclusion in a split timeline. Either way, Akira Toriyama left us a great story, that is filled with a lot of soul, a dragon soul.
I like how you incorporated scripture into your video. It was well done mate. I've been trying to find a way to incorporate scripture into my videos on our channel for a few months now and I have to say it was an inspiration to see you pull it off. Thank you. Idk if your a a Christian or not but I commend you!
What a journey. ❤ And it was a journey that expanded at least four lifetimes(I say this because Goku died by heroic sacrifice at least twice, if not three times). But his new godlike status sadly came at the cost of everything he loved including his family and friends. 😢 But I'm sure Goku understood that it had to be done. And at least he got to talk to his loved ones one last time. 😊 And surely, he can rest in peace knowing that his family and friends finally got to live in peace and he will be remembered as the greatest hero in the universe. 💖
Goku becoming a deity like Jesus makes sense Goku's aura appears to purify the world and I remember that Jesus's presence has a similar effect where it causes merricals and purify's people, so Goku could of achieved a divine state through his will to protect the world. So I see your theory as being likely
@@KaioshinCurt and Goku appearing and disappearing after death is just like Jesus when he came back to life when his disciples figured out who he was Jesus disappeared like Goku did were once Roshi questioned what Goku was Goku vanished. I'am now convinced that this was what the writers were thinking at least to some degree. Prehaps it's a combination between him becoming a Jesus like entity and becoming a daoism immortal.
That is what goku represent to me. A boy that lived in the middle of nowhere, ignorant, savage, trough training and sacrifice he got to be up to the level of the gods. Goku had the purest heart and saved earth some many times it makes sense the gods demanded him into another real.
Great video Curt. I think that it's up to the viewer to decide what happened. Also I really enjoyed the return of the scriptures in the video. It's been a while. Keep up the great work.
There were several key moments in the manga where Goku seems to be on his way to achieving godhood, or a god-like state of being. When Goku survived drinking the Ultra Divine Water, he gained the ability to sense King Piccolo's evil spirit, although this was later retconned to just be the first instance of a character sensing another character's ki. When Goku first became a Super Saiyan, he gained the ability to listen in to King Kai's conversation with Guru, and Goku even intimidated King Kai. Of course, the more mystical elements of the Super Saiyan transformation were dropped. But still, you can see where Toriyama was toying with the idea that Goku is a higher being and not just a gifted fighter.
#enders Goku seemed more a martyr parallel to me like most of the apostles, than Christ. He died doing the will of the dragon much like how the apostles died doing the will of God, then he was raised up with the dragon, as the apostles live on after death with the Father. Really the only reason I lean more that way is because of what you said about Goku not being eternal prior to his death, which seems to fit the roll of apostles better to me.
ahah great points mate! I agree now that you mention it, Goku fits the Apostles and early christians better. Oh I wish I could have put that in the video. Thanks for sharing this
Goku didn't deflect and cleanse the ball of evil, Gogeta did that. Toriyama claimed he hated GT, but the Super Saiyan God ritual and red hair is a direct reference to when Goku received everyone's energy before the Omega Shenron fight, Gogeta's hair turning red after because of the fusion with Vegeta.

Piccolo smashed
Another aspect that could've led up to this link between Goku and Shen Long would be the purification of Si Xing Long (or Nuova Shenron in the dub). There was clearly some merging between the two beyond the purification after Goku swallowed the Dragon Ball with it manifesting on his head, likely being what caused the link between he and the Dragon Balls.
The fact you call shenron shen long is stupid
*shenron
@@fr0zerter Shen Long is the more correct name due to its literal meaning in Chinese as Dragon God and its in-universe usage with Goku piecing together Shen's true identity as Kami due to this meaning. Shenron is merely an attempted Japanese transliteration of it that doesn't translate the wordplay over too well, hence why the Viz manga made the right decision in using the Chinese name and why I choose to.

GT’s ending was done perfectly and is a MUCH better interpretation of the character than in Super, canon or not. Great video!
Dragon ball was weird also.
I love than you still share your faith in Christ even during something that doesn't entail Him in something like DragonBall! 👍👍 Its awesome to see brother, so keep up the faith & witnessing to people through your love of DB bro

yes you're right. Remember that the scene which bardock was offered wish to namekian's dragon. He didn't believe to shooting star but ended with he wished that his children would survive. That's why goku whenever goes always surrounded by this cursed wish.
Three star Is a weird one….0:06
That goku not being alive after the negative bomb it gives me shivers. :D
Man when you watch ashita no joe you can really see how many animes and japanese stories it influenced.
Is there any other anime that has the same aspect where the main character “transcends” the natural physics of the living world in Goku's case and became one with the eternal dragon.
I know that many anime's are influence from Daoism and Buddhism.
This is the understanding of GT that puts my wondering to rest. It just got more amazing as the video ended.
So basically he died during that Negative Ball blast but he willed his way out to stop the ball. His soul threw the spirit bomb and then he merged with Shenron to purify the DBs until it was release again after 100yrs in the Goku Jr. Time?
Love that you still shared your faith in Christianity my friend as a fellow brother in Christ thank you for this 🙏🙏
He left because in reality he was killed by the negative energy ball Omega shenron made and he died trying to block it
your point still is not explained ty for your narative
Shenron revived him
But had to go to sacred the dragonballs shenron offered him plea since he swallowed the dragonball

@@goblinslayer2318 that was basically what I said. Great video. I laughed at the part when ChiChi asked Goku if he will be home for dinner. Nope. 😆 Also, love the part about Daoism and Christianity. I see a lot of religious elements in Dragon Ball. Thank you Kari, I'm glad you enjoyed this one and the funny parts "worked" out ahhaa. DB is full of religious references, I hope to cover more of them in the future :)
Actually im sad when she said that. Bad for her
Maybe thousands years ago, there were a LEGENDARY HERO that live similar life like Goku...named Shenron, previuos Dragon named, Kuma perhabs. Goku became next Dragon
That’s actually dope asf ngl
Tf happens to shenron
Dragons are created by the Dragon Clan Namekians so they dont have a direct link to any mortal in the universe. Shenron is literally a statue that Dende could power up depending on the power of the creator of the dragon balls
Goku did tell goku jr about the 7 dragon balls. That was the first thing he said to him. “You gotta collect all 7, for it to work silly”
I think if goku was able to go back to earth and leave shenron, then I would see the battle of the gods happening, but with a more op goku, and probably a tired beerus.
Well Goku GT still maintain event of BOG actually
This ascended Goku is too strong for the gods of DBS. And I don't think he still has his "fighting spirit", since he used his own positivity to counter the negativity and balance everything inside him. So he would just watch.

It was especially confusing in the English dub. I was initially annoyed because Vegeta said "you're going to train, alone"
You're the best Dragon ball guy right now, Geekdom gives his opinions as facts
Wow really?! Thanks. I just try to keep to the facts and if I mention my opinion, I'll be sure to let you know
4:54 He does mention collecting all 7 Balls for a wish to work.

What i want to know is, does shenron and porunga live in their own universe, until they are called upon by their respective dragonballs?
Duh
Yeah, their powers go against the laws of the mortal and spiritual world. So this means they come from a place with higher laws, they are basically doing the biding from the "god world". As we can see Porunga has more power, so in that world there are beings of different strength too.
In the japanese dub version, vegeta, roshi, and piccolo ask a similar question, “Goku, are you…”, after his fight with shenron. The English dub doesn’t mention that at all.

Crazy to think at the start of the series he’s just a mountain boy. Now he’s a ascended, pure-hearted deity
Goku becoming a deity like Jesus makes sense Goku's aura appears to purify the world and I remember that Jesus's presence has a similar effect where it causes merricals and purify's people, so Goku could of achieved a divine state through his will to protect the world. Prehaps it's a combination between him becoming a Jesus like entity and becoming a daoism immortal.
