The biggest aero gains are your body position. Get that right, and you'll leave the aero lads that don't get it right in the dust with your lightweight bike. And as someone who lives on a hill, nothing is worse than a heavy bike. At my crawl speeds, I don't see any aero gains as I breathe so hard that I just offset it with my exhales...😂
It's definitely a refreshing surprise to see a return to elevated seat stays. It certainly suits the bike and dropped stays should only be on aero bikes. I love the agressive look of an aero bike (gonna get hate for that) but the classy silhouette of a lightweight road bike had been lost, until now. Well done Orbea.
I own and love the previous Orca, I bet this will be just as good. I like the change back to traditional seat stays rather than the dropped seat stays. Nice bike orbea 👍
I think it is great that Orbea has released a bike that is light and fast. I agree with you Simon, that it is difficult to really feel the results of all that "aero", but you sure feel satisfied when you pick up a nice light bike that is stiff and responsive.
The traditionale seat stays suits the bike way better, in my opinion! 🤩 It definitily would make me much happier having a bike that looks this, then going that little bit faster with a more aerodynamic setup
This is something I always say to people - from a pure science perspective an aero bike might be faster, but a lightweight bike feels alive and makes you feel good - which makes you ride it faster. Especially on the slowest parts of a course (hills) where you are likely to lose the most time, feeling that you are on something that responds and rewards your efforts can make a big difference to how hard you push. The rider will always be the biggest factor in determining performance, and psychology is an important factor to consider, not just going down a rabbit hole of pure physics.
From a dropped seatstay to traditional double diamond frame, oddly although this is a design shift of going backward, I quite like it in terms of aesthetics
First od all because first impression is the most important... love this paint!!!! I'm small person and for me more enjoy is climbing... 6.6 kg sounds great because it seems this bike is completly prepared for that kind of battles... Anyway love carres of clean look and something kinds od aerodynamics! This should be uphill killer!!
As the owner of an Orbea Orca M20ILTD, and extremely happy with it, and also an absolute believer in the Orbea business style and way of thinking about performance bicycles, I do really love this new iteration of the Orca. It would come in quite handy around my new stomping grounds in Spain, where the hills and mountains do require a lighter and nimbler bike.
I love a light bike. I love taking it off the workstand, I love carrying it down the steps, I love loading it on the rack. I love when people pick it up to check the weight. And I love peddling it.
My first orbea onyx was wonderful but after leaping up to the orca in 2021 with the full customized build I was amazed at its great all round handling.I would love to try out this new orca it sounds incredible.
It reminds me somewhat of a Canyon Ultimate, or my own bike - a Factor O2. As a taller guy that also enjoys hills, I'm already carrying more momentum on the flats but if a bike doesn't feel good going uphill you are going to feel that. A light bike feels great and it's inspiring. This new Orca looks badass and I'm glad to see them prioritize an appreciation for the mountains.
I‘m riding the previous ORCA OMX and I like the design much more. Personally I would choose a Aero bike over a very light bike and work on loose a bit body weight. Thanks for introduction.
Living in the Netherlands I would usually prefer aero. But since I enjoy climbing a big mountain over flat courses and my uphill speed is not big enough for aero to be utmost important, I would still go for light weight. Comes in handy raising money for cancer research by climbing Alpe d’Huez 6 times in a day.
Wow what a bike! Just a dream! I only got into cycling less than a year ago but I'm obsessed with it and love hill climbs... Well I love the feeling at the top having not stopped! I completely agree that ighter weight is an absolute priority on the difficult hills as aero plays such a smaller role at these lower speeds. Your channel has also been inspirational and so educational...I particularly loved the North coast 500. Simply stunning ❤
It looks absolutely amazing and its weight of only 6.6kg is mindbogeling. Personally, I really like the aspect of rapid acceleration due to the low weight and the design of course :D
I'm in love with this Orbea and was thinking about trying to get one this spring. And the fact you can create your own colors for the bike is awesome.😊
It's a beautiful bike. I've a friend who owns an Orca and has ridden it for going on ten years now. It even survived a pretty bad wreck. Great quality - thanks for the review.
Looks really nice with those integrated cables. I like the fact that it is available without one piece stem/bar combination. I would love to see it in british racing green.
I discovered cycling as a pastime last year. I treated myself to an aluminium gravel bike to cover all bases. I have now discovered that being 60 yrs old, I need all the help I can get on the hills. I light bike such as this great looking Orbea would be a dream for me.
If you live in flat areas, then go aero. If you are surrounded by hills, then go lightweight. If you can find something that does both, then fantastic. There must be a good reason (some) TDF riders switch bikes halfway through a time trial that has flats and hills. But given my average speed is

I love the elevated seatstays with a ‘twist’ at the top!
Very classic-looking bike. Not my taste, but I like the fact, that they produce a bike without property parts. I think, that lightweight bikes are pointless if they aim for 6.8 kilos. Today, even aero bikes can come very close to that limit. New Giant Propel is an example of this and putting a shallow wheel on it will make it as light as a top-spec Orca. If you are looking for a real lightweight bike for a similar price, you have a number of options even under 6kg.
Having just bought a new wheel set that prioritizes weight savings over aerodynamics, i am with Orbea and their design parameters. Looks like it would be a blast to ride.
I just bought a lightweight bike as my first proper road bike, it was 7.1 with no pedals. It's amazing how much easier it is to ride up the hills back to my apartment. Haven't yet taken it up to the mountain roads though.
Really pleased to see a manufacturer offering a really lightweight stunningly beautiful bike. I don't race so aero isn't a big deal for me (and many new aero bikes are, in my opinion, becoming quite ugly). The new Orca looks absolutely fantastic!
Truth is aero bikes look really good on Pros & people who race bikes for a living. For the typical cyclist / weekend warrior, aero gains are marginal but a stiff, lightweight bike.. you're gonna get a lot more smiles / mile on that!
Orbea just launched my new bike. I want a pure climbing bike and they have definitely built one that suits my desires. The fact that I can get it in orange with the MyO program seals the deal!
Airo and super light weight is always exciting especially when pro’s use the latest gear. It is easy to trick oneself into thinking that we can buy pro performance instead on working hard on the biggest gains, oneself (strength, Airo positions etc) - love! a response bike what a amazing setup from Orbea
Has anyone tried entering the competition? From what I've attempted on filling in the information on the initial steps, there seems to be no UK postcode which results in any shop availability for this bike and the MyO system therefore does not progress to the next stage to allow customising of the bike.
This bike looks fantastic, and living in a place where 10 miles of distance ridden usually requires 1,000 feet of climbing, it looks ideal to me. Well done, Orbea!
I love the look of aero bikes, I’m never going to be a beast on the hills, so I’d probably go for aero over lightweight. The best weight savings I can make are on my waistline.
Lovely looking bike. At 196cm tall I need more than an aero bike to go fast but this is nearly half the weight of my current bike so definitely make more of a difference.
Well my hairy legs count against aero - so I'll take the light weight. You said it in the video. The joy of lifting a light bike and seeing just how light it is. Ooohhh Yeah!
Can we just appreciate the fact that GCN used a stick and a rock to hold this state of the art bike up for the shots when they stod still.
It's called genuis.
You just can't beat mother nature! 🙌
After all the fanfare over the shadow stand, too

Does the bike really care?
What do you think of the new Orbea Orca bike?
beautiful bike but it is still an orbea. i do not think they have the brand awareness for this pricing.
not my geometry, but it looks absolutely fantastic!
The best you can buy.Considered design❤
This is a proper light bike!
Nice bike. Looks like a proper climber like a Cervelo R5
Happy to see Orbea offering a true climbing bike. Absolutely love it. So very light weight and you get to choose colors, phenomenal. Way to go Orbea!
It's a super cool bike! We hope you've entered the competition? 👀

I'll always be a fan of lightweight bikes. I love how responsive they feel when you're climbing.

I’ve never ridden a lightweight bike or an aero bike so i can only speculate the difference
No better feeling than flying up a climb 💨 How do you feel about aero bikes?
I agree - I ride a 2019 Orca - it still amazes me on the climbs
Lightweight and responsive, best combination.
As an owner of 4 previous Orbea's and a Orbea fanboy I approve! Love they're getting back to their climbing roots!
Love the twig-shaped kickstand - nice touch.

What about the Bianchi Specialissima? That's a good example of a classic-looking, climbing-focused bike as well, isn't it?

I have a 2017 Madone 9. Aero with more traditional double diamond frame. I refuse to replace it. Aero and still looks classy, imo.
It's hard to beat those classic lines 👀

An absolutely gorgeous bike! Very sleek with well though-out details. Would love to have one to conquer these hills!

I love lightweight and I love a traditional seat cluster even more.
Looks matter, and this looks way better than any of the aero bikes out there!

Love the traditional paired-down look of the bike.

Finally, a superb option for a lightweight disc frame in the market! Hopefully frameset option will be available in Malaysia soon!
Its great that they are acknowledging that not everyone is aero everything and gives a nice light alternative for the market.
What a beautiful bike, as a rider surround by mountains and rolling hills I would say a stiff lightweight bike is the go to option.
I have an Orca OMX with Rival & was surprised by the weight. It doesn’t feel that heavy & it’s still pretty snappy.
Damn! Even looks better than my current electric orange Orca! That one is amazing (fast) to ride, but due to the looks, this will even be faster! 🧡
I much prefer lightweight bikes to aero - in fact, the Orca looks like my idea of a dream bike. It looks slick and I bet it's wonderful on hills.

Yup. Same. 15 miles = 1,500 feet of elevation gain.
I love aero bikes but I think it comes down to where you live and what you prefer. The important thing is to keep cycling
What I like most, contrary to the prevailing fashion, is how the seat stay is connected to the seat tube.
It gives the bike a classic look 🙂
Lots of people are loving those classic lines... we would be inclined to agree! 👀
