Luther sounds just like the record live. He's my favorite male singer of all times. I saw him in concert several times. You go to his show with your girl and you sit with your arms around her. By about the 4th song, you're leaning back in your seat,, and your girl is on the edge of hers, all into Luther. Rest in Peace to the legend. Luther was the first r&b artist I can think of who was outed as gay and embraced it, and nobody felt any different about him, one of the great crooners of all time, although the lyrics to this song gained extra meaning.

Now my little ears need a soft and gentle rest , so Luther Vandross comes just right for me. ,, IF ONLY FOR ONE NIGHT ,, is one of the best songs of Luther Vandross, I have heard the song probably hundreds of times. At such a concert there was no more reation, you were just frozen like a pillar of salt and the voices and the sound penetrated into the soul.
