After the release of Art Angels, Grimes was at the best point in her career and public relations, had nearly detached herself completely from her old way of life in Montreal and was on the verge of completing yet another transformation to further personify the spirit of Grimes.
She spent most of 2016 harvesting the fruit of art angels, performing at festivals all across the world as well as starting off the year with a co-headlining tour with best friend and colleague, HANA.
In June, she had a career best when she performed to a crowd of nearly 20,000 at the iconic Glastonbury stage The Park but in the same month experienced one of her lowest points when she walked off-stage mid-concert due to a serious death threat from a stalker they weren’t able to catch before the show, as well as suffering from a bacterial infection at the same time that limited her ability to eat and compounded her exhaustion.

Yes, except for the tweets that appear for 0.0001 seconds on screen!! Please allow a bit more time to read, or at least to pause. Every time a tweet or screnshot of some conversation appeared I had to roll the timeline back, and im on phone which makes it hard to go back to the correct moment. Anyway, other than great
she really is kinda the modern marie antoinette... imperfect, but so demonized and misunderstood by many that it's difficult to see who she really is through it all. hopefully c gets a better ending than marie did (lol)

It’s her actions that “demonized” her. She’s shallow and empty (does stupid sh*t idiots see as artistic for shock value). Attention whore. She can’t get attention through any talent hence your not knowing who she really is. Actually what you see is really what she is. Nothing special. Not kind, not creative, not a good person.
I follow Grimes for quite some time and I must say that her art literally caried me through 2020. I am so excited to see where she takes us next. In my opinion, she is one of the most interesting artists of our time. So, let's not let the bullshit drama take the focus away from all the incredible work she produces.

Yes she was obviously trying to hurt the people she has said it to, but it is also petty and speaks to her deeper issue of fat shaming and her fear of ever gaining weight. She made derogatory comments about her body while pregnant as well.

I feel the same way! I am so jealous that the US doesn't let artists flourish like the Canadian school system does. I think it is amazing that her being in college on grants is what made her find her path in music and used the money to fund her music career early on!
Grimes made me who I am last summer I was fixated on her like all day every day I would be watching interviews and listening to her music and everything I am so grateful for her, now I can’t listen to much of her music because I overplayed it but it’s crazy how far I’ve come now I’m more into punk culture and everything alternative big difference but I don’t know who I would be without grimes

Grimes and Poppy wearing face masks before I had too! I really loved Grimes when she was pregnant! She was so funny and just radiantly beautiful! Grimes seems like she does (or maybe did, she has a child now, so hopefully that's past tense) a lot of drugs, and anyone who does a lot of drugs gets messy. Doesn't make her a bad person, per se. Does lend more credence to Poppy's account of what happened, and Azealia's account of what happened. Lots of egos, lots of public images being massaged, and none of us knowing what actually went down.

In fact, I really should be doing something actually productive right now, but...I've watched a lot of her past interviews and heard her stories of how she crafted her past albums. I don't think she digs too deep into economics or politics since she's never had true financial struggles or 9-5 jobs according to her interviews. Fans assumed she was anti-capitalist because of her aesthetic that is largely reflective of that community. However, she was kind of an innovator in removing meaning from aesthetics for better or worse. Anyway, I still really like her music & creativity.

Mars argo was his former "ill make you famous" - girl and poppy had outwardly little to do with it. She has now broken up her professional relationship with titanic and i hope to see grimes and poppy together again someday, under better circumstances

Poppy was complicit in copying Mars from the very beginning. I truly do believe she was young and manipulated (there was a decent age gap & Titanic obviously had more power in the relationship), and she definitely needed out of that relationship, but she's not completely innocent when it comes to what he did to Mars.
Edit: maybe we'll never really know the true fallout between poppy and grimes but I think it was too major for them to ever get over it and work together again. After all, poppy released the song without grimes' consent, and grimes redid the other one with Hana. That's pretty serious.

I adore Grimes, but I really do feel like she's in some kind of identity crisis and a huge part of it is her choosing to be tied to Elon. Of course she shouldn't be young and unknown forever, but she has a kind of fierce individuality and laser focused artistic vision that has seemed...dampened and dulled as of late. You'd think with her acquiring added stability and resources she'd be on top of the world, but I really don't get those vibes. I can't help but feel like they're a couple who really fits well on a superficial level, but actually disagrees a lot on important issues. It just makes me sad. It feels like watching a friend make choices that are hurting them, but they're an adult and they're entitled live the way they want to without being berated for it...or maybe she's just progressively getting more ouch of touch and doesn't care anymore. Either way, I hope the best for her!
On the flip side, Elon probably has a good foundation on how to deal with constant good and bad press that he can share with c/Grimes. I think her getting more out of touch probably has to do with how completely insulated her life has had to become from the rest of the world due to both her fame, stalkers, and wealth. It's probably pretty difficult to relate to people in the same way when you live in that world.
@@boardsofkaneda305 - great point. Obviously, it’s hard to know exactly what’s going on when you’re on the outside looking in. Hopefully Elon is a person who has the capability and willingness to provide that kind of emotional support to his partner. It IS tough to maintain grounded-ness when you’re some of the richest people in the world, but I do think that there are celebrities/wealthy people who have made the choice to not participate in the “lifestyles of the rich and famous” sub culture. I think you need to be intentional and aware or you easily lose sight of your privilege and start becoming grossly tone deaf. It feels like C had that ability until she started dating Elon. :(
@@bravoteddybear I really hope Elon has the emotional intelligence to be a good and supportive partner to her, too. Like you said, she's always been very hardworking and super creative. I worry that her intense imagination combined with the stress of her career and life will cause her to turn inward even more so and create a paracosm. Which could be good for her art but like you said, could cause them to become even more removed from the experiences of most people. That said, I really respect her and her art, I think she's like a living Prince / Bowie figure. I feel a bit bad for speculating on her private life, and just hope that she can find happiness with both her family and career.

tbf the emerald mine in question was in Zambia, not South Africa, so it wasn't apartheid like I see people throwing around a lot. that said, I'm sure it had problematic elements. it seems like Elon's dad is a real piece of work.

Elon didn’t get to pick his parents or the circumstances of his birth. However it’s absolutely fair to hold him accountable for his own actions.

As a musician I find her really interesting and I admire the fact that she makes everything on her own, she's been quite the inspiration on the stuff I'm working on recently.

The other day somebody told me I'm weird for listening to any female artists. Mind you my playlist is dominated by things like Radiohead, Deadmau5, System of a Down, Tame Impala, Jimi Hendrix and others.
How does listening to somebody who makes good music make you weird?
The first time I heard her music it was Kill V. Maim and the first thing I thought was this is so good, this would be a killer track to remix just for fun.
