‘“And anyway it’s better don’tcha think to make him wish that he were dead” one of the coldest yet funniest lyrics I’ve ever heard. This song is awesome.
When you listen to this song alongside Junior Wells/Denise LaSalle's "Hey Mister/Lady, You're Wife/Husband Is Cheating on Us" it really shows the connection between country and blues.
Um, she didn't write "We Never Danced." Neil Young did. She wrote a hell of a lot of great songs, but she was only the "voice" for Kelly McGillis in the movie.
Also met them on the cruise. Matraca was a new discovery for me. Felt ignorant and late, but thrilled at the learning. Great performance. (Hate the video editing, though. Should be on her face at the crucial lyric. Overuse of the slide shot.)
She said, honey, you don't know me But I know you Do you mind if I come in It'll only take a minute or two And by the way I really like What you've done to this place It doesn't really surprise me 'Cause we kind of have the same taste But that's enough small talk There's something that we need to discuss Your husband's cheating on us She said, you look surprised Well, I'm surprised that you never knew I can't believe you didn't pick up On my rather strong perfume (It was Giorgio) But anyway, we've been replaced And she's much younger than me and you And she's out there with him now Doing all the things that we used to do So why don't we get together You know, we could be dangerous 'Cause your husband's cheating on us Ah, ah, ah, ah, snakes are in the kitchen Crows are on the line Ah, ah, ah, ah, the weather vane is twitching Can't you see the sign, sign, s-s-sign This is where I start to cry And she said, honey, you'll get over it Just never mind my fantasies Of cyanide or taking out a hit On second thought it's better, don't you think To make him wish that he was dead So promise me you'll take that creep For everything he's ever had instead I've got a Polaroid camera And a room number at the Hotel Nautilus Where your husband's cheating on us He's cheating on us
Matraca's way too good for" mainstream Nashville Country" ironically that's why she's not a household name.. a genius song writer who is a cut way way above the rest. buy anything she's made.

I bet a lot of people out there don't realize how many country songs she's written for many country artists out there!
This is the music I hear in my dreams! How do you do that? I love you Matraca
She is a very talented woman, she has written many very popular country songs
Pretty amazing song. I want to hear more by Matraca Berg.

Met Matraca & husband Jeff Hanna on the Delbert McClinton cruise 2012. They are both wonderful artists and genuinely nice people.
Thanks for posting this video of Matraca Berg!! I like her excellent songs a lot!!
I love how she's trying not to laugh at parts of it!
One hell of a songwriter.
My favorite is Made in Heaven's We Never Danced. Hall of Fame woman. Talented beyond belief!

Well I said honey you don't know me
But I feel like I know you
Do you mind if I come in
It'll only take a minute or two
And by the way, I really like
What you've done to this place
It doesn't really surprise me
We kinda have the same taste
But that's enough small talk
There's something we need to discuss
Your husband's cheatin' on us
Then I said you look surprised
Well I'm surprised you never knew
I can't believe you didn't see or
Pick up on my rather strong perfume
But anyway, we've been replaced
And she's much younger than me and you
And I know she's out there with him now
Doing things that we used to do
But if we get together
Don't you think we'd be dangerous
Your husband's cheatin' on us, yeah
Ah
Snakes are in the kitchen...
Crows are on the line
Ah
Weather vane is twitchin'
Can't you see the sign, sign, signs
This is where she started to cry and I said
Oh honey, you'll get over it
I said never mind those fantasies
Of cyanide or taking out a hit
And anyway it's better, don't you think
To make him wish that he was dead
Just promise me you'll take that creep
For everything he's ever had instead
I've got a Polaroid camera
And a room number down at the hotel Nautilus
Where your husband's cheatin' on us
Ah
Snakes are in the kitchen...
Can't you see the sign
Ah can't you see the sign.

That is coldblooded.

A song for Steve McNair.
I would LOVE to hear Kacey Musgraves or Grace Potter record this song!
