The Carambola, also called Star Fruit, is a small to medium sized tree that produces a juicy tropical fruit. The flavor combines those of the apple, grape and citrus and is crisp in texture. Some of the common varieties of Carambola include: King, Bell, Sri Kembangan, Arkin, and Fwang Tung.
On this channel, I help you to create your fruit forest. I also introduce you to all kinds of new and interesting plants, and I let you know how to get them. living in the west indies, having a small orchard with veggies for ourselves and little space left.
12 young starfruit trees ( 3-6 months)in pots . started from seeds, same way you re showing us.
replaced them in bigger pots.80% success.
now i resurge a-bit.t
hey like sunshine, adapt to the heat.overwatering a no go.
after hurricane season i will put them in the field (nov. /dec )
of course i like the rabbit manure,as we are having only cow manure.

I have been trying to grow starfruit from seeds. Of the 20-30 seeds I've planted, (water, paper towels, potting soil, seed starter mix) not a single one has germinated. I've used many fruits of different ages, ripeness. I'm in Arizona.

Well, I question to the freshness of the seeds you are using. It us really important to get them from a fully ripe star fruit. Then, they germinate very easily. My Starfruit seedlings died a few months ago But luckily I got another Starfruit from the grocery and ready to make a next attempt on Starfruit seedlings!
Yep, they are very tender plants when young. I think anything under 50 degrees on the tiny saplings is too much, I have lost many in those conditions also.
Have you ever grown any from seed that you got fruit from? If so was it as sweet/geed tasting as the fruit from the original tree? Thanks I ordered some seed from a guy that was selling fresh starfruit on Etsy and said he would not harvest fruit and get the seeds until someone ordered some, I wish I had had sense enough to ask him to start them in some wet/moist paper towel. Yes, many times, it is extremely easy to grow from fruit. I would take the seeds from fruit that ripened on the tree. @@EatYourBackyard I'll go check it out. I did get one seedling out of the seeds I ordered from the guy on Etsy so far, it took way longer than I think it should have but I have that hopefully more will germinate.
As young seedlings they can be Delicate and you have to really carefully with them and when it gets older it’ll be strong healthy tree

How do you quickly ripen a green Starfruit from the grocery store?
Best way I know is to leave it on the counter where air can get to the whole fruit. I think the process just takes as long as it takes since the sugars actually change in the process.
I've got some starfruit seeds to germinate. But they all died, don't know what went wrong.
How long do the seeds stay viable? Thanks
I have only ever used them fresh, not sure how long they will last dried out. I will save some and find out.
