  • off for the long weekend with a few mates to an 1800's gold mining town. we had plans to detect a few places around town but a last minute permission pretty much kept us in the one spot for the whole weekend. what a spot it was too! some great finds had by all and some great memories we all took away.

Sounds like a ripper weekend! Love those really worn coins. Imagine all the hands it would have passed. Amanzing.

Yeah it was Dani, was great to get away up bush.
Always makes me wonder how they get so worn only on one side. Thanks for watching.

Excellent long weekend away, Darren and friends! Those George III's are sensational, face like a dropped pie, can't get over their age, nor why no newer currency until more arrived, early 1830s. Nuts. That padlock shaped carved and chased silver, the insert would be a semi-precious hardstone, the Scottish love them, an agate probably. Just missing the swing loop catch, probably for a fob watch chain, heavy item, could take out the stone to clean and have a catch made, both best done by a jeweller. Being big and silver, by law, going way back, it would have hallmarks on it somewhere, oddly, gold items by law didn't need hallmarking.
If you don't mind me saying, you and the two Lukes regularly seem to fluke some excellent finds, so keep 'em coming, these detectors with numbers haven't been around all that long, where folk were long ago hasn't been gone over with the nous you lot show, or on where to look, nor how to detect as well as we've seen being done by yourself and the Lukes. Best of luck with the locations and finds! 🤞½sov, yet to see a TH-cam detectorist find any halves, apparently rarer and more valuable.
Cheers from Gabi of Narre Warren.

Looking at that silver item again I think your spot on, thanks for the information.
Technology has certainly come a long way with detectors now especially with discrimination advances. The target identification numbers certainly do help with guessing what's in the ground but like I've said before, you never really know 100% what your digging until you've dug it up. A sov or 1/2 sov would be amazing for sure, ill try my best to get it on film should I ever be so lucky haha. Thanks for the support Gabi 🙏

Gday Darren, was in touch with Luke Phillips regarding his leather digger sheath and he said a fella named "Darren" makes them. I put 2&2 together and was wondering if you are that Darren, as i see you have the same sheath. Can you please let me know if this is the case. Much obliged mate.

Your a smart man Malcolm 😉 yeah I've made one for luke and myself so far, was waiting till we used them for a while to see how they wear and if I needed to make any adjustments to improve them.

@@Working925detecting Hi again Darren. Please keep me in the loop as I would like to try one myself, as the webbing ones do not handle the serrated diggers very well. Cheers
