    Not too small for Muhammad Ali! Only too small if you need to compensate for some insecurity. I love it! Just be confidant. Unisex, definitely! I will wear a WWII Elgin HS^3 deck (pocket) watch sometimes, and a Cartier Tank other times; could be anything I choose depending on the occasion, what I'm wearing , and my mood.

    I think you would get a different response if it was in the original black calf strap. That shade of blue is very stark and might have skewed your responses.
    Edit: Nevermind it’s been mentioned before me. But on another note, this model is very versatile, but it speaks very well in formal clothing or a business/ smart casual type of wear. You can definitely wear it with a shirt and shorts, but it’s a little out of place

    My wrist is one inch larger yet I wouldn't consider a larger Tank than that, maybe even a smaller one. If it was a Tank Louis Cartier, I'd be happy with any size. To pull it off, you don't need a special personality, it just takes a black or brown strap instead of a flashy blue one, and a little bit of not giving a duck about what other people think. Watches are first and foremost for your own enjoyment!

    For me I have the Tank Solo XL in 18k rose gold with a brown alligator strap it looks identical to the Tank LC. I feel the size of the XL is perfect as I am 6’1 203lbs. So it really depends upon the build or frame of the individual, on a smaller individual the small or regular tank size would suite them well but for me it wouldn’t look right regardless or wrist size. During that time was looking for a watch with a pocket watch presence went back and forth between IWC Portugieser and the Cartier Tank. In the end chose the tank because of the rich history, you can wear it in business casual environments as well can be worn with relaxed weekend clothing especially with the right strap combinations.

    • @PocketWatchTime
      @PocketWatchTime  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ 100% agree so many people mention they would buy a tank xl only if it didn’t come with a date complication smh. For me if I’m spending north of 5k on a watch it has to at least have a date complication otherwise I’d feel ripped off. If anything I’d be picky more with multiple chronographs rather than a date complication.

    • @PocketWatchTime
      @PocketWatchTime  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Brian-jb8vm You’re so right. I’d probably get more complaints if I made a video about a needed date window on a Tank versus the small Tank being lady sized. 🤣

  • @Harry-tb8yo

    To be honest that blue strap makes the Tank look much less sophisticated and elegant than on its original black leather strap. It looks almost cheap. I personally like the Tank but the standard design would not be my first pick since I find it too close in design to my JLC Reverso Squadra. Tank Americaine and Tank Francaise are above it in my bucket list. And if I could afford it the Tank Chinoise would be above it as well. I had a closer look at Francoise and Americaine a few days ago. I think I will go for the Americain medium size.

    • @PocketWatchTime

      I agree - I like the other (more elongated) versions of the Tank more too. The Chinoise is amazing.

    In answer to your questions 1) it is unisex; 2) I like (love) the Cartier Tank Must; 3) I do own and am currently wearing the Cartier Tank Must. Not crazy about the blue band you chose (not criticizing, just pointing out my preferences). Then again, Cartier also sells the watch with a bracelet and I'm not crazy about that either.

    1. Do you think the Cartier Tank is male/female/unisex?
    Unisex now. It's interesting how times change. Worn by many manly men, from Pershing to Muhammad Ali, it was historically a masculine time piece, and made in a smaller size for ladies as well. Seems like nowadays it's considered mostly a woman's watch, with some references wearable for men.
    2. Do you like the CT?
    Yeah, definitely. I like the Santos more though 😄.
    3. Would you own/wear a CT?
    Yes, but it has to be the right one -- I am not generally interested in quartz timepieces. The modern ones, if I am not mistaken, only offer an automatic movement in the X-Large size. I think they did a limited run for the 100th anniversary, with mechanical movements in all the case sizes, but I have big wrists so X-Large is fine anyway 😁. Beyond sizing, I'd also go for a very conservative black or brown band on it.
    Great video as always 👍. Tell your co-workers they're good sports, and their responses made the video a lot of fun!

    As mentioned in the comments, Muhammad Ali wore one. So did Steve McQueen, Sean Connery, Ralph Lauren, JFK, Jeff Goldblum etc.
    So, of course men can wear one (and look great).
    However that blue strap is not it and definitely makes it look cheap.
    The Tank is the pinnacle of the formal dress watch so it demands a black strap.
    You can dress it down slightly with a brown alligator strap and get away with it, but that blue (or any other loud color) is definitely not appropriate for that watch, in my personal opinion.
    At the end of the day, to each their own and wear what you like!

    The Cartier Tank solo was and is an elegant watch. We expect of and are expected as men to be more “butch” and anything that hints at lessening a very narrow definition of masculinity is not acceptable. Wear clothes that physically fits. Be comfortable enough with your body to wear clothes (watches) that show the contours of your body. Btw that tank solo looks great on you my man. The color of the strap biased the response as was mentioned by someone else. Cheers JoM.

    1. Do you think the Cartier Tank is male/female/unisex?
    Unisex.
    2. Do you like the CT?
    Yes.
    3. Would you own/wear a CT?
    Yes.
    I have and love my Lassale watch from the 80's, and it clearly took strong influence from the Cartier Tank (less distinctive, and the face clearly follows the Seiko style, but the influence is undeniable). The CT is fancier (especially with the jeweled crown and roman numerals). But looking at history, I think the rectangular wristwatch has fallen out of fashion as a men's watch. At its heyday during the Art Deco movement, the watch was made (more) famous by the likes of Rudolph Valentino, Duke Ellington, etc., and later by Jacqueline Kennedy and Andy Warhol, etc. Today, the round watch dominates men's watches while women's watches have more of a mix between round and rectangular (though even there, round seems to predominate).
    But I think you nailed it...whether the CT "works" depends on who is wearing it. Same can be said for pretty much any clothing and jewelry.
    Anyway, great video! Had to snicker when one of your co-workers said, "I would expect nothing less from you!" Love that your co-workers all weighed in, and very appreciative of those who allowed their vids/audio/comments to be included. Interesting insight! Looks like you have a great group of co-workers! Anyhow I do get why some people would think this watch looks feminine: not only it's a small classy watch but the blue strap underlines it's refinement and the strong sense of taste of the wearer.
      So depending on what you wear it may more or less catch the eye, thus raising the feminine/masculine question.

      I’ve got a trench watch that size. The strap makes it wear a little bigger than stated size.

    It's made by the french for people with taste, not some random American farmer, who cares about their opinion anyway?

      I’ll see if I can find a random American farmer and ask them. Guess I better find a plane… closest farmer is about 1000 miles away.

      Too big! Now that’s a controversial opinion. I can definitely see the watch being the right size or an appropriate size… But this version being too big for my wrist - I have to argue with that. Classic Proportions and Golden Ratios are one thing… But the Lange 1 is definitely sized more appropriately for my wrist.

    If your taste does not find this watch a classic watch then you have no business talking about watches. My wrist is larger than yours and I have 3 cartier tank in different iterations and metals and a couple of santos Dumont. Bear in mind my wrist is 8 inches and it’s much skinnier than yours and less rounded. So the watch looks even smaller on my wrist. Even when it comes to the dozens of Rolex I owned over the years I ended up with swabbing all of them with 36mm size. I only kept the Daytona, the GMT master II and the submariner in size 40mm cuz they don’t come in any other size and I rarely wear them now. I never owned a Patek bigger than 38mm except the aquanaut cuz it’s a sports watch. You should recognise a proper gentleman’s watch when you see one! I don’t think you’re bigger or manlier than Mohammed Ali.

      @@ameeral-shammaa9012 Thanks for the comment. I’m not trying to be bigger or better than Muhammad Ali… But I think he looks silly in that watch. 😁 That’s what’s so great about opinions… There are so many.

      @@PocketWatchTime you know that the most important dress watch of the 20th century is the Calatrava from Patek, in different references starting with ref#96, and those watches were between 31-33mm up until the 1990s. Just because you learned about watches in the 2000s doesn’t make the Cartier that Mohammed Ali wore look silly.

      Styles change. People used to “drive” carriages pulled by a horse… I prefer cars. Classics are classics but evolution happens. I understand you like smaller/classic dress watches… That’s great. I love that you love the hobby. But, no reason to be critical of people who have a different taste.

    • @ameeral-shammaa9012
      @ameeral-shammaa9012 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ it’s actually harder to manufacture a watch that has a smaller case. There is so you’d rather drive a school bus than a Ferrari based on your analogy because the size is bigger? A bigger size watch doesn’t make it more technologically advanced like the difference between carriages and cars. There is no logic in this analogy. That’s like saying let me wear high heels cuz it makes me look bigger man!

      You misunderstand… I don’t mean evolution in the watch mechanics but evolution in styles.
