I figured that's what they do,just wiggle it back and forth and the tugs push it away as much as possible! Fascinating to watch something that big trying to get going.
The way those Tug Boats are doing their job and the ship to boat comms reminds me of a Pixar animated movie. Especially when the motion is sped up. Great work.
Hi Paul You do a awsome job at taking all these videos. Believe it or not I was up there watching the same ship being freed this last weekend.I was watching from that wayside park
So, dumb question, from what I've read and heard from my inlaws (Uppers) the upper lakes stay heavily iced long past March. Is the ship just being moved or removed from layup to start revenue service again? When do the lakes freighters typically layup for the winter and do they really get started again as early as March? Thanks, Bob. Love the videos, excellent work and look forward to watching many more. Thanks again.
Very nice video, thanks! Glad to see here underway from Winter layup. Rather amazed at the poor procedural compliance on the radio communications between the underway vessel and its assisting tugs. Way too casual to conform to USCG and IMO protocols.
Was this ship trying to pull out under its own power or where the tugs doing the work? I would have thought that ice would have been child’s play for that monster

Just want to add to everyone else's kudos. This is a masterful piece of editing.
I thank you!
I love the way you bring in the radio chatter. Awesome job filming as usual
Scott Burns thank you !
Incredible video! The radio made the video much better.

Tell my girlfriend my wallet is in that boat and she'll pull that thing out of there in 30 seconds flat.

January to April is the average lay-up season. The season is 24/7 for approximately 8 months.

Looks like the lake is breathing.
did the captain have to ask one of the tugs to clear more ice?
He did, the ice is unforgiving, they need it loose so as not to punch or tear a hole in the hull.
Some say it's still sailing to the BN dock today...
back it up, I said back it up...I cant, oh
Crunch crunch crunch

Ram Runner he was trying to move on his own, using the tugs to clear the way
How many hours depart from dock?
I think it took them about 6 hours from beginning to end.
