There is so much hilarity in this video. First of all, Kate Moss is from England. She and the other "waifs" were not "6 inches shorter" than the established supermodels, more like 2-3". Also, I like when the Ford agency woman says people would get tired of looking at models with anorexia and the waifs would be short-lived. Unfortunately, this was the end of the classically beautiful supermodel and we never looked back. Models kept getting skinnier, bonier and scarier-looking from there on out.
I think what the lady said is quite true. People ARE tired of looking at these super thin anorexic girls. But the giants of the fashion industry still hire them anyway. Not because they look good or anything, but because they're forgettable. I look at the situation cynically. If they hired for supremely beautiful girls, then another supermodel age might result. And with that comes the high runway fees and reliance on a small group of girls, who can then press organisations for more pay. I just think the fashion industry doesn't want a repeat of that and the supermodel era in general.

They paid each supermodel up to $10,000 per runway show, yet they made millions using these women. They didn't want supermodels to take attention away from them and their clothes. Designers have always controlled the fashion industry. They changed sample runway sizes from 4-6 (U.S.) to 0-2. Then they hired manlnourished teen models they could control more easily. It's been downhill ever since.
Agree because even in 2022 that waif look is really popular all the fashion models who are at the top have that look Victoria Secret did a lot to reverse that trend into something more athletic healthy and relatable but high fashion very much reveres that too thin waif look
