My German shepherd is outside on our farm. He snuggles with our cats and spends most of the day running around playing with toys and chewing on sticks. Even when it’s in the negatives outside, we’ll look out the window and he’s laying in the snow chewing a bone even when he has an elevated bed with blankets and a heat lamp in our garage. He gets plenty of human interaction from my dad and his farm hands throughout the day and always has something to do. Can people say the same for their inside dogs who are locked in a crate for 8 hours while at work? No. I love that you touched base on this because SO many people have given me a hard time about it and called it animal abuse when he’s perfectly happy and healthy. He would be MISERABLE inside! Love your videos :)
When dogs are crate trained and if the crate is large enough for the dog to stand and even circle around inside, it's not torture to let them stay inside. But I agree it is better to have a big kennel that is attached to a dog run. But who can afford that? Not all dog owners. That's why it's important to always make sure you have enough time at hand before you get a dog.
I rescued a half Siberian Husky and half Great Pyrenees.... and wow she loves to sit out in the backyard for hours in the cold or even getting soaked in the rain! I was worried at first but seems like she is normal. She was crying to get it out, so I let her out thinking it was potty break... but no....she just wanted to be outside at 4AM lol
I have 4 Pomeranians. They’ve been outside for 4 days now while it’s snows. They have their own little dog house tho with blankets. They seem good so far. You would think if they were in cold pain they would stay inside their dog house the whole time but they seem to still walk around and run around the snow like if they aren’t effected at all.
It’s simple as a case by case basis. Every dog is different and should taken care accordingly. Same goes for all animals. It’s as simple as common sense.
Yes thank u . My firmed dog is old so she will not survive outside in the cold .is not because they husky that they will be ok outside . Like u said is case by case 🙏❤️🥰
my dogs are outside 24/7. they have a their own mini house that is heated, they also have their own beds. my dogs have the choice to stay in their warm house but they loooove going outside, even in the freezing winter! i think it’s perfectly fine to keep your dogs outside as long as they have a warm place to go when they do need some heat and some food and water.
I know they don’t get cold easily but I never knew they can with stand ice so I love this . I feel bad because we have an Alaskan malamute and he’s old and now I feel bad that he’s out I. The cold 🥶
My two German shepherds live outdoors , they love the cold , they have kennels, dog houses , plenty of straw and i double up on dog food ., they’re healthy and happy ..and my house stays clean
@@zaneriaa get a insulated dog house if possible, fill it up with straw , possibly even a revolving door , plenty of food/calories and water he will be fine .. what part of the country do you live on? How cold does it get ?
I hate when PETA makes these posts. Like you said, there’s dogs that were bred for outside living and won’t make food pets. I have a chihuahua and Schnauzer mix and i don’t think she’ll survive outside even with a jacket on. Whereas a German, Belgian or Australian Shepherd May be a better option for outside living since they’re natural herding dogs like their names suggest. If peta would say that about stray dogs that have a thin coat like Chihuahuas or jack Russell terriers then yeah that’s a reasonable statement but dogs like Great Pyrenees or other thick coat dogs then no it’s not
Thank you. I always thought it was weird that descendants of wolves and hunting breeds and cattle herding breeds can’t stay outside. New subscriber here.
Definitely depends on the dog breed. Some dogs like Huskies and malumutes can stay in negative double digits and be perfectly fine. If the dog has a very think coat, I think it's good to stay outside, though it having at least some kind of shelter from the cold would be preferable.
You are 100% correct. My GP guardians are miserable in the heat. I set up a small heater & heat lamp in the barn directed into their "house" (4 ft. deep, 8 ft. long, 3 ft. high) and they will sleep in the kennel next to it. I turn the heater off and then they'll go in their house. Even when it's 15 degrees outside! As long as they are protected from the wind and weather, they'll be fine.
My Gilbert lives inside with me, because he’d die for me, and I’d die for him. Nobody else will ever have the kind of respect for you as a dog will. And for that he deserves the best.
I completley respect this .we used to have a golden retriever mix and she hated being inside so she was an outside dog and she lived happy and healthy .in tge winter we would bring her inside but she still dident enjoy it she would rather be outside .
Forgot to address that even if you have your dog outside .its important to be aware that there warm enough in the winter with shelter, heating ect and in the summer that they are kept cool .so they dont overheat .i still like inside dogs better but thats just my oppion.
Very interesting. I’ve had dogs all of my life and they have all lived outside. I have often been frustrated when I would carefully place a blanket in their house only to see later that they have dragged it out of the house to lay on it outside of their house. Some have even used their blanket as a chew toy or a toilet. Here I am feeling sorry for them and trying to keep them warm and cozy… Anyway, I have often thought about how wolves and other animals care for themselves in the winter and figured that maybe my dogs know something I don’t . I still provide a house inside of a pen with straw, blankets, and a cover over the pen just for my own peace of mind.
It's all about acclimation. You can't start a dog living outside during winter. You start them in the summer, provide good warm shelter with hay bed. Their coat will fill out during fall for the winter.
So happy someone is willing to talk about this!! Thank you 💕 I’ve spent two years writing about and researching dog breeds and I also volunteer media services to non-profits that work with pets, feral cats, and wildlife. One of the most frustrating things is having to fight against the virtue-signaling culture of well-meaning but ignorant Americans who try to bully others about animal welfare. They don’t realize that what they’re saying isn’t being said out of a genuine desire to help animals - it’s being said because it makes them feel good to say it. I really do believe that is the case in many circumstances. For example, I recently heard one Karen say “some people just should have pets”, because a woman had dressed her cat in a costume. The cat was adopted from a shelter. But this same woman was the kind of person who doesn’t want to hear about the survival rate for shelter cats in America, because they try not to think about it. 🤷♀️ I would like to see a day and age where we make suggestions instead of unreasonable judgements and “you should” statements. The better response would have been “I don’t think it’s nice to put a costume on a cat. Cats don’t like clothing.” Because if you’re going to take it a step further and say whether a person should have a pet, or whether they’re abusing them or being negligent, then you SHOULD have facts to back your statements and you SHOULD have done your research.
correction, certain dog breeds can. Some can not. My Doberman has 0 fat and is mostly muscle pressed to skin, as that is how they were bred to emphasize their muscle tone. I live in Florida, the winters here are not harsh at all, but with a slight chill and a constant wind at 65 - 70 degrees, he is shivering so much his teeth are rattling. I have to put a jacket on him and then he stops and seems less miserable. He would freeze and die living out in the snow, as would other non-cold tolerating breeds.
It snowed and got to 17 last night I care for some strays in the woods. I built them a house few inches off the ground packed the wall with hay, filled it with hay blocked the front off with enough room for them to get in/out wrapped it with a couple of tarps. They aren't longhaired dogs one is a bulldog mix. I haven't seen them yet today I hope they pulled though.🤞
Okay as someone who has had animals my entire life, I feel like you need to do a bit more emphasis on yes you can keep your animals outside as long as you provide adequate housing and protection from the elements, as well as providing protection from parasites and hazardous animals. You can't just say put your animals outside they'll be fine without seriously putting in the emphasis on providing them with shelter, make sure they're up to date on any vaccinations, make sure that there's no way that they can get out of their surroundings, make sure there's no way someone can get in and harm them, make sure that they have any parasite preventatives, and also go with common sense. You went about this video in a very condescending and hauty manner.
Yet here you are, doesnt look like you quit😂 The dogs are for the danger. My last farm guardian was killed by a pack of pitbulls. That's why I have two this time. But you missed the entire point if you think my dogs are not going to encounter danger. They are there for danger.
@@HappyTailsAnimals I watched because I am subscribed to a lot of animal channels and your video was recommended. Don't flatter yourself. I understand living rural means you have dangers but your situation is not like probably half of your viewer's. Most likely, your viewers are sitting in their urban or suburban homes and using your video to justify leaving their pet out in the elements. I've lived rural, surrounded by almost 400 acres of forest and we did have guard dogs. The thing is that they had insulated dog houses in a spiral style for winter and shade during the hot months. In fact all of our animals were protected first by us then by our guard dogs. Your front line of protection should never only be your dogs. You've really got a chip on your shoulder, don't you. I started watching your channel when it was in it's infancy and quickly realized, through similar conversations as this, that you refuse to see things from another's perspective. I concede that not all animals are indoor animals. I concede your need for protective dogs, I've had GP myself for my goats. On the other hand, you reply back with the same attitude of superiority you've had since starting TH-cam.
You said you dont watch anymore, then said you sat through a whole video. I'm not flattered at all because I dont care for your view either way. I'm just pointing out the contradiction you are making 😆. Thank you for reassuring me that TH-cam has not changed me. That's a positive. As far as making videos about my situation, well duh that's kind of this whole youtube gig. Sharing the your perspective and way of life with the world. You know it even sounds like we both agree on important points here, but you want to say no like a hater just because agreeing with me would be too hard for you to live with. That's a bad attitude to have in life. But it's ok with me if you want to keep being offended just for the sake of it. 😂
Love your straight forward no nonsense common sense. When I was a kid everyone had their cats and dogs outside. Maybe it’s because I always grew up in the country but it just seems that the last 20 years people now think an outside dog is an atrocity.
I’d like to add that my cat, yes cats - those cute fluffy pets everyone thinks HAVE to stay indoors who have a strong urge to hunt and explore - hates being indoors. Keeping him inside in hot or cold weather “against his will” means my blinds getting chewed, my things get sprayed, and the whole household is subjected to yowling that will not cease for hours. My cat prefers being outside regardless of the conditions (rain, wind, ice, snow). He is happy laying in our yard or exploring the neighborhood. He will only come in to eat but still, I have to carry him in. He prefers if I just feed him outside! The only time my cat stayed indoors on a consistent basis was for 9 months exactly. During my whole pregnancy! Meeting my cat and learning to let him outside has changed my perspective on cat ownership and now I tend to feel so much sympathy for all of the thousands of “pet” cats that are raised indoors and kept there!
There I can't agree. Because I do not advocate for pets killing other animals and other pets. Our dogs are actually there to prevent the animals from being killed. Letting your cat out is detrimental to local wildlife and they can kill other people's pets. The threat of being hit by a car, injures by another cat, or shot by someone is too great. Outdoor enclosured yards for cats are wonderful. But letting a cat free roam is irresponsible.
@@HappyTailsAnimals I'm now confused. You stated you felt sympathy for your dog breed as people do not provide the proper living conditions (animals to herd/protect or adequate exercise) for it and then surrender them to shelters. Are your predators, as in your dogs, free roam? I noticed they seemed to be. I cant help but notice... you might be coming off a bit hypocritical in your response? Your dogs roam similar to my cat. My cat kills off birds and mice. Your dogs (should) ward off coyotes and stray dogs. Either or could be at risk from attack, neighbors shooting them, or cars - whatever the very unlikely and rare event might be. You are correct that risks are there yet without understanding my cats lifestyle in full, you cannot (just like I cannot) assume your animal is "in danger". Quite frankly, I made no assumptions that your dogs were at risk in any way and viewed them as you do: guardians to your other animals without judgement on their safety. I assume they most likely stay on your property, as my cat does mostly. I assume they are friendly to you and others, as my cat is. Etc, etc. I'm not sure how so very different our situations are to where there isn't an agreement on your end to my kitty's lifestyle but a wholehearted disagreement. Would love to hear back!
My dogs cannot get off my property and do not kill wildlife. How is that hypocritical? I'm against free roaming cats as much as I am against free roaming dogs. Your cat can leave your property and can kill local wildlife. The reason I have to have these dogs is because of pet owners like yourself that do not keep your pets on your property.
My standard poodle refuses to come in the house at -20 degrees and where I live that's cold. She will be running and playing around for hours. I woukd physically need to corral her back in the house everytime
Thank you for this. The problem isn't necessarily cold dogs, it's social busybodies who want to tell everyone else what to do. I have a GSD and a chihuahua. The GSD can hang out in seriously cold weather, and will actively go out and sleep in his kennel when it's really cold. The chihuahua doesn't, and I don't let him stay outside much when it's cold.
My great pyrenees was an indoor dog lived to be 15 years old never once would the thought cross my mind to give him up he was my big baby he was the happiest my most spoiled dog on the street ❤the secret to his happiness was pools full ice during the summer and plenty of outdoor time during the winter time plus our adventures we went led him to have a full life ...
Went hiking in the Rockies with friends and two moderately heavy-coated mixed breeds. The people were all cursing under their breath at the cold, while the dogs were running around like it was the best day ever. They ran through streams repeatedly just for the fun.
My afghan hound has a silky single coat. Long or short, she will play outside in pouring rain or 3 feet of snow. She only seems to get cold when I bath her xD still is an inside dog of course, she's my companion.
I hade a dog for 14 years a German shepherd mixed with lab and it lived outside and never went inside but had to put it down the other day what dog should I get since that one died
My Newfie will not come inside when it’s cold and snowing, my long haired shepherd hates the cold. They have a doggy door so come and go as they please but just goes to show all dogs are different
I really love this video. I'm back here reassuring my self my dogs are sound sleeping outside. I have 2 lurchers outside in kennels sleeping. I jacket them under 10 degrees Celsius if they've been inside the house. But some time they don't want the jackets on. They can't wait to get them off in the morning.. I am in the UK. My 1 dog is Greyhound cross boarder Collie, dense 2 inch coat .. And I have a Bedlington terrier crossed grey hound whippet.. Very long linty coat on top but thick underneath.. Funny think is I worry about the dogs being cold but I have working ferrets that are out all Winter too even below freezing and never had 1 die. Good bedding and dry place to sleep they all thrive outdoors
Dogs living inside houses seems to be something that happens in wealthy western countries. Outdoor dogs are the norm around the world and they do fine, so much so that there are issues with them thriving too much.
then why don't you go get all cows horses donkeys coyotes etc and bring them inside your house dogs can survive outside of the house easy except in USA they too spoiled get lost quick
It’s winter and my dog is not wanting to come in. She has a double coat. This makes me feel better. My last dog was a chihuahua so I’m not use to having a dog outside.
one other reason that has made dogs and cats the center of attention is they make more sensible bond and relation with human. for example the way cats or dogs respond to touch or human voice they way they show attention, gratitude or affection is more realizable by us. plus they are the most two pets seen in urban areas and for city people, these two become a frontier of the world of non-human i.e. the wild
My rottweiler lives outside. He isnt allowed to live with us inside. Our kids are all noisy etc.. and I won't be able to deal with poo and wee from dog 24/7.
@@HappyTailsAnimals No, it's a personal preference. Not everyone wants a dog inside of their home 24/7. Back then when I was young, every dog in our neighbourhood lives outside sometimes chained up. Chaining them up is bad.
Hey Leslie, I have a year old Rottweiler and he prefers outdoors too. Any suggestion ? I live in Southern Ontario so it gets really cold in winters. How’s your experience?
I'd rather hear if you're hot, they're hot too. Dehydration and heat stroke is probably the worst way to go. I don't have any farm type animals but I would love to find a way to cool barns for their comfort if they have thick coats.
I keep my little shih Tzu dog in the house. My dog is always cosy in my house. I always have the heating on. Plus I have nice thick dog blankets on my settees for Tara to cosy into
My GSD will not stay inside, he doesn’t like it. When it rains he’s like a little boy jumping in puddles. Many people have made me feel bad about this especially here in Cali 🙄
My great Pyranees hates being in the house, even if the thermostat is set to 66-68. Lol. He begs to go out. He is so happy in the cold. Obviously it varies from breed to breed but, Pyranees are a mountain dog from France.
We have two Great Pyrenees and Anatolian Shepherd mix 3 month old puppies. What is the coldest temperature can they be outside at this age? They are already just over 30 lbs
Let them decide. As much as I wanted to keep mine inside at that age, it was miserable for them. Just listen to them and you will know what's comfortable for them.
I have a dog, a mutt, he sleeps inside because he's only 3 months old. We also allow him inside when the weather is very bad. But he likes outdoors much better. Even when it's a colder day. It's just more interesting, there's more space and he can just go and pee whenever he wants. He will be full time outside when we make him a warm house. Our cat likes inside but finds outside more interesting. He will be full time outside in the future as well but he's too small now. And oh, they are both pets and working animals. A guard dog and a barn cat. And they are loved and happy
I have two dogs. One is an old female lab and the other is a boxer mix I think. She has really short hair. Her name is Bella. Bella won’t go in out of the cold. My shop has a doggy door that’s always open. Inside my shop are dog beds, food, water, a light that stays on, and if it’s cold the heat is on. During the day, while I’m in the shop, Bella is in and out, and has no problem being in the shop. And she will go into the shop for food and water. But she will not stay in the shop or sleep in the shop even if it’s 15 degrees outside with ice on the ground. She will lay out in the yard in the miserable weather. What’s wrong with her?
When I was a kid we had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and she loved to lay on top of the snow and sleep like it was white sand beach 😂. She wouldn’t want to come in a lot of the time.
Different breeds have different needs! It is normal for a toy poodle to be cold (one layer of coat, smaller body, low levels of fat etc) when a Husky is okay!
Happy Tails nah, they’re happy as they can be. I train them, I take them out on walks everyday, and take them to the dog park 5 times a week. And they like their raw food.
@@michaeljordan7587 nothing wrong with that, if they’re happy they’re happy. As long as they’re not uncomfortable it’s okay. Dogs didn’t used to live in houses
I think I'll get a husky for long trail runs and walk , as a friend, but I will keep it outdoors...with available shelter ( brick) ..and large garden area.... I'm in UK , so we never really get freezing nor scorching weather..
I have two cattle dogs and they live outside, they’d rather live outside than inside. When they were living inside they were very bad and horrible dogs and once we kicked them outside they started to be nice and less aggressive. They started to do tricks and stuff, they seem way happier outside. But I guess that’s a cattle dog at heart, they stay out in winter and stuff.
I hate it when professionals say "if you're cold, they're cold". That's total bullcrap. I had a husky when I was a little boy and she stayed outside all year long, even during snowstorms. When I was playing outside and my hands were getting cold, I would burry them under her coat and warm them up that way. Her body was super warm and I was always amazed to see just how effective her coat was. She was not struggling with cold temperatures AT ALL and she's just one example. We humans have bare skin, nothing; dogs have what's called fur. Believe it or not, it protects them.
snowstrom ? ps how many dog are there in the wild wolf would be in a pack and dig a den to stay warm. all of these talk about dog being Able to stay out in the cold yes they can but there would be a pack of wolf vs being one in the cold
I just want a dog door, no one can really change my mind about that. If the dog wants to live outside sure, if he wants to live inside sure I just feel like it can do what it wants to. With cats it's a bit different for me because they are more highly sought-after by predators .
Get ur outside dogs some hay straw n a compact fort n they will be Cozy all winter come out wen they want n go in and get warm as they want 🎉🎉🎉🎉like comment subscribe
Someone talking sense. Sick of taking our border collies out for walks and seeing other borders wearing coats. Even had comments about us being g cruel before now
It dependant whether your dog is hypoallergenic or not, If your dog needs to get their hair cut every month or 2 (like cockapoos) then they would be very cold outside, I have a cockapoo who starts shivering in the snow but big dogs with thick coats like huskies or working dogs are ok outside i guess. Im still sort of against this just because when I hear that a dog lives outside I feel like their less likely to get love and attention. I think its kinda hard that thick coat dogs are bred in hot countries :(
With that thought are you treating dogs as individuals? Or are you using your experience with one dogs and applying it to all? What makes you think all dogs want lots of attention?
@@HappyTailsAnimals dogs are domesticated animals, They were bred by humans to be our conpanions, i agree with you when it comes to digs like pyronees or alaskan malamutes etc obviously but I think companion dogs should be inside
Did you watch the entire video? Why do you think domestication means dogs want to be with you and why doesn't that apply to cows? I'm worried you dont understand what the word domesticated means.
i have 2 border collies that live outside full time and i hate it. i’m not allowed to bring them inside much because my parents don’t like it and because my 3 year old little sister is afraid of of them (they’re not aggressive but they do nip alot) it breaks my heart when they try to come inside and i can’t because i know my mom will yell at me. i get so worried even though i know they have proper shelter. it doesn’t get below 20 degrees F during the winters but it does snow and rain. my dad built them a large dog house that’s insulated and has hay and blankets for bedding and an automatic heater for warmth, and i’ve been inside it for long periods of time when it’s freezing outside so its very cozy and warm but i still cant help but be worried about them :( even though my parents don’t like them inside my dad did his best at building them the warmest dog house he could build but i get really worried i can’t even sleep at night because i can’t help but think they’re cold. i even made them dog sweaters from my old clothes (which were so ugly btw) and my parents got mad?? i try to go outside and play with them for as long as i can but i get really anxious leaving them outside. dogs are supposed to bring you joy and i love my dogs to the moon and back but even i wouldn’t be able to handle them inside because they’re always jumping on things, biting the walls and running around everywhere. i don’t want to hear any more “you should rehome your dogs” because even thinking about that makes me wanna cry. i’m probably being really dramatic right now but i just need someone to assure me that having a dog outside full time is ok because i feel sick to my stomach thinking that keeping them outside is animal abuse, i would do anything for my dogs (unfortunately not letting them inside because i would never hear them end of it from my mom if they destroyed something)
Dogs live outdoors in cold countries for various reasons. It sounds like your dad has done a great job with making sure they have a nice warm and cosy shelter. As long as they have shelter from the elements, food, water and adequate space to run and play you are fine. Plus they have each other for company when you're not outside with them which is also great so I wouldn't worry :)
I just simply give my dogs an access to a warmer environment as they please with a windbreaker shelter and heat lamps and they come in and out whenever they feel like it
My medium size dog refuses to go outside. He loves to sleep indoors and just likes to go outside when me or my husband take him for a walk. But I still completely agree with this.
When there is a baby in the house, it's important, specially at night. Just heard a 5 week old baby in Australia died in the middle of the night because of there dog.
@@antoninacawley7949 But how did that happen? In my case I don’t have kids but I restrain my dog access to certain places of the house when I’m not going to be home for a while or I’m not going to supervising him for a couple of hours. For instance we have an enclosed porch in the house and my dog usually sleeps in there and we have a gate in our kitchen so he can’t go upstairs nor the living room, the few times he sleeps upstairs in my husband’s and mine’s bedroom he stays in huge crate so he can’t go further than what the crate allowes him to. I really doubt that taking the right measurements in the house so that dogs and children/babies won’t have contact without being supervised (and with proper dog training and teaching kids how to behave with dogs when they are old enough) will lead to such tragedies. The only scenario that I could think off that lead to this scenario is if the parents were careless as parents and owners that left the newborn and the dog ALONE without any measurements and supervision taken. Or if the parents were stupid enough to not close and lock the bedroom where their child was sleeping.
Yeah this is so true it’s called stray dogs they live outdoors so believe it or not your dog can live out side if a stray dog can plus some people leave there dog in there back yard all day and sleeps in there dog house in the back yard or some dog have a chain on them in there back yard and sleeps in the back yard like it’s this man who lives close to me and his dog sleeps outside on a chain
I agree with this. I have 2 dogs and they arent outdoor dogs but I totally agree with this. I have a labador, Jackrussel, 2 mice, 1 hamster, 4 fish tanks and 4 Budgies. And only my Budgies are kept outside, in a shed.
Hey do you have any suggestions on how I can separate my outside dogs they can’t come inside and have litter are syndrome I would cry forever if I had to give up one
People just don’t pay attention to their pets. I looked this up because I was concerned being new to snowy winters. But it only took realizing that my dogs weren’t shivering and generally seemed happy. If a dog doesn’t want to be outside they will let you know.

@@zaneriaa get a insulated dog house if possible, fill it up with straw , possibly even a revolving door , plenty of food/calories and water he will be fine .. what part of the country do you live on? How cold does it get ?
John Doe i live north of Sweden in the capital and it gets around -13 in the winter but in the summer it’s really hot
@@zaneriaa that is kinda cold.. you may need to put a dog house heater in there
John Doe yeah I figured, I will probably buy my own apartment and then buy the dog
My great aunt's dog lives outside and he loves it. I don't think he'd cope with being inside.
What dog is it
I hate when PETA makes these posts. If peta would say that about stray dogs that have a thin coat like Chihuahuas or jack Russell terriers then yeah that’s a reasonable statement but dogs like Great Pyrenees or other thick coat dogs then no it’s not
Random Stuff I Like. They kill thousands of dogs a year every year
@Random Stuff I Like. Wow, does it hurt to be that stupid??
@Random Stuff I Like. Then it's true what they say. Stupid people don't know their stupid. Get tested 🤡
So happy finally someone is addressing this 😍😍😍 I always let my dog go inside but from the start she decided to not to go inside and goes outside!
I love this video, thank you for speaking out!!
Thank God someone still has brain. Dogs were deff not bred to be inside, especially the 100 lbs + ones.
So happy someone is willing to talk about this!! Thank you 💕
I’ve spent two years writing about and researching dog breeds and I also volunteer media services to non-profits that work with pets, feral cats, and wildlife.
I would like to see a day and age where we make suggestions instead of unreasonable judgements and “you should” statements.
The better response would have been “I don’t think it’s nice to put a costume on a cat. Cats don’t like clothing.”
Because if you’re going to take it a step further and say whether a person should have a pet, or whether they’re abusing them or being negligent, then you SHOULD have facts to back your statements and you SHOULD have done your research.
correction, certain dog breeds can.
Common sense is no longer common....Best breakdown I've seen on this subject
I don’t know how I come to this I was looking how to make hot dogs
You manner in most videos is the main reason why I quit watching you.
Yet here you are, doesnt look like you quit😂
The dogs are for the danger.
Life with Rachel same reason I unsubscribed, I come back every now and again to see what dangerous/condescending things she’s saying now.
@@HappyTailsAnimals its just random birds, chill
@@HappyTailsAnimals what a judgmental, elitist response, and very different from your video’s message just because her experience is with a cat.
My Weim lived outside all her life. She loved nothing better than a freezing winter southerly (Australia) wind!
My standard poodle refuses to come in the house at -20 degrees and where I live that's cold. She will be running and playing around for hours. I woukd physically need to corral her back in the house everytime
my dog shivers when she is in the cold but some dogs are different and can stand the cold
Well balanced explained! Great video! “Thinking with emotion instead of logic!" its sums it all!
Good point, the jobs-worth always have something to say.

An amazingly educational video for this topic. I agree 100%.
I'm always amazed how feral cats survive and thrive in 10°F winters.
I hade a dog for 14 years a German shepherd mixed with lab and it lived outside and never went inside but had to put it down the other day what dog should I get since that one died
My Pyrenees loves the snow! Lays in it, and plays all day when it snows.
They’re dogs! animals! Why dress them in a jacket???? They’re NOT humans.
My chihuahua came from russia, he make me sleep outside
😂
Dogs living inside houses seems to be something that happens in wealthy western countries. Outdoor dogs are the norm around the world and they do fine, so much so that there are issues with them thriving too much.
then why don't you go get all cows horses donkeys coyotes etc and bring them inside your house dogs can survive outside of the house easy except in USA they too spoiled get lost quick
The reason why chickens don’t need heaters is because there is so many of them and they produce body heat so when the roost together they are warm
It’s winter and my dog is not wanting to come in. She has a double coat. This makes me feel better. My last dog was a chihuahua so I’m not use to having a dog outside.
one other reason that has made dogs and cats the center of attention is they make more sensible bond and relation with human. for example the way cats or dogs respond to touch or human voice they way they show attention, gratitude or affection is more realizable by us. plus they are the most two pets seen in urban areas and for city people, these two become a frontier of the world of non-human i.e. the wild
My dog is outside right now and its 30 degrees out, i was worried but hes fr kickin it 🤔😂
Excellent explanation, finally I find a good video about this subject
So, short fur dog left outside at below zero temperatures is fine?
You are so spot on!
Thank you
My rottweiler lives outside. He isnt allowed to live with us inside. Our kids are all noisy etc.. and I won't be able to deal with poo and wee from dog 24/7.
I will say that is a very stupid reason to have a dog outside. Refusing to take the time to potty train a dog is not a reason to keep it outside.
@@jahansheikh5978 hey,, it's not too bad here during winter. I WOULD recommend giving dog a warm coat for the night?

How many bags did you use for the area in the video I have a yard about that size not sure how many bags to get? Thx!!!
I saw a huskie play in the snow for the first time. That dog knew what it was for sure.
I love working dogs and admire them so much! Out of curiosity, do you raw feed your great Pyrenees'?
Arrow Service Lab I’m not her, but she does feed all her dogs raw.
Excellent, learned something new today, love dogs, 🐕, dogs are different…
My husky loves being outside even if it's hot but eventually he will whine to come back in even when it's cold outside
My great Pyranees hates being in the house, even if the thermostat is set to 66-68. Lol. He begs to go out. He is so happy in the cold. Obviously it varies from
breed to breed but, Pyranees are a mountain dog from France.
You have persuaded me that some dogs are preffering to live outdoors, thanks, please watch out for that peacock’s beak.🦆
Different breeds have different needs! It is normal for a toy poodle to be cold (one layer of coat, smaller body, low levels of fat etc) when a Husky is okay!
I saw a pit bull outside watching a yard . I felt so bad . Is he cold ?
My dogs live outside to keep the stray cats, possums, and any rodent for that matter from my backyard. My parents also don’t allow them inside so 🤷♂️
Very screwed up to not allow a pet the option. Completely missed the point of this video
My dogs live outside, one cattle dog and one American staffy X bull Arab x Rottie
Awesome video. Corgis do have double coats. We get ours wet and it just falls off. It's hard to get them soaked even in the bath.
If it pop in my head I search for the answer
I hate it when professionals say "if you're cold, they're cold". That's total bullcrap. I had a husky when I was a little boy and she stayed outside all year long, even during snowstorms. When I was playing outside and my hands were getting cold, I would burry them under her coat and warm them up that way. Her body was super warm and I was always amazed to see just how effective her coat was. She was not struggling with cold temperatures AT ALL and she's just one example. We humans have bare skin, nothing; dogs have what's called fur. Believe it or not, it protects them.
snowstrom ? ps how many dog are there
in the wild wolf would be in a pack and dig a den to stay warm. all of these talk about dog being Able to stay out in the cold yes they can but there would be a pack of wolf vs being one in the cold
I love that you tackle these sensitive topics with the truth. Thanks so much!
I just want a dog door, no one can really change my mind about that. If the dog wants to live outside sure, if he wants to live inside sure I just feel like it can do what it wants to. With cats it's a bit different for me because they are more highly sought-after by predators .
I will only believe it if the dog tells me.
Wish you talked about puppies and age appropriate times for dogs to live outside . Vs a litter who was born outside

Wonderful!!! Thank you
Someone talking sense.
My pit likes it cold….
My large breed short haired dog, gets bothered when it's under 30, for walks, but a 10 minute ball throw warm up and they're good,
i have 2 border collies that live outside full time and i hate it. i’m not allowed to bring them inside much because my parents don’t like it and because my 3 year old little sister is afraid of of them (they’re not aggressive but they do nip alot) it breaks my heart when they try to come inside and i can’t because i know my mom will yell at me. i get so worried even though i know they have proper shelter. it doesn’t get below 20 degrees F during the winters but it does snow and rain. my dad built them a large dog house that’s insulated and has hay and blankets for bedding and an automatic heater for warmth, and i’ve been inside it for long periods of time when it’s freezing outside so its very cozy and warm but i still cant help but be worried about them :( even though my parents don’t like them inside my dad did his best at building them the warmest dog house he could build but i get really worried i can’t even sleep at night because i can’t help but think they’re cold. i even made them dog sweaters from my old clothes (which were so ugly btw) and my parents got mad?? i try to go outside and play with them for as long as i can but i get really anxious leaving them outside. dogs are supposed to bring you joy and i love my dogs to the moon and back but even i wouldn’t be able to handle them inside because they’re always jumping on things, biting the walls and running around everywhere. i don’t want to hear any more “you should rehome your dogs” because even thinking about that makes me wanna cry. i’m probably being really dramatic right now but i just need someone to assure me that having a dog outside full time is ok because i feel sick to my stomach thinking that keeping them outside is animal abuse, i would do anything for my dogs (unfortunately not letting them inside because i would never hear them end of it from my mom if they destroyed something)
I just simply give my dogs an access to a warmer environment as they please with a windbreaker shelter and heat lamps and they come in and out whenever they feel like it
You in my neighborhood a man had his dow outside in a flash freeze night and his dog lottery froze overnight and he had those plastic igloo home
Great video, very informative. Could you make a feeding routine for your dogs?
We have an Aussie Blue Heeler X Mastiff, and she PREFERS being outside. She has a double coat, and loves being outdoors rather than indoors.

Hey do you have any suggestions on how I can separate my outside dogs they can’t come inside and have litter are syndrome I would cry forever if I had to give up one
I 100% stand by you ❤❤❤
People just don’t pay attention to their pets. I looked this up because I was concerned being new to snowy winters. But it only took realizing that my dogs weren’t shivering and generally seemed happy. If a dog doesn’t want to be outside they will let you know.
If your not a vet I'm not listening to you.
Lol well you can't fix stupid
So can we assume that people who don't know what domestication is also think that pork chops are born in a factory on styrofoam?
