  • An operational athletics test was held Tuesday at the Stade de France, just a few weeks before the start of the Olympic Games in Paris.
Young athletes from France and abroad gathered to test the facilities for the various athletics events that will take place at the stadium.
For the first time, the nine running tracks at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are purple, something never seen before in Olympic history.
"The track looks great. I felt like I was flying,” said young French sprinter Raphalledy Guillaume.
Work began in early January and was completed at the end of May. The stadium will be ready to host the first athletics event on 2 August.
Alain Blondel, Paris 2024 Athletics and Para Athletics Manager and former athlete said “it's really important for us to understand how it works technically, with all the differences that we all the changes that we made on in the stadium, on the track.”
The renovation of the Stade de France for the Paris Olympics began in 2021, and among the new features are almost 150 sports floodlights illuminating the arena. They have been replaced with energy-efficient LED technology, as well as architectural lights that will illuminate the surface of the stadium's roof to create a light show.
Giant screens the size of tennis courts - over 240 square metres - have been installed.
The Paris Olympic Games will involve some 10,500 athletes from 200 countries or regions.
43 athletics events, 160 para-athletics events and two rugby sevens matches will take place at the Stade de France during the Paris Olympic Games, which will be held from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
