Thank you, good sir! You are a life-saver in this, because so everyone knows, when you tighten the belt tension using the tensioner you repaired, the tip I have is: _Loosen the nut on the idler pulley first,_ before you turn the adjusting bolt. This will prevent the actual adjuster from breaking, as it did here, and as my stupid self did, on my mom's 1999 Legacy Outback wagon (she has the 2.5L engine in her car).
Again, thank you for your video, and making my life _a lot_ easier. I salute you.

I broke mine in exactly the same way. I know it's my fault, but I'm pretty peeved that subaru makes the tensioner out of freaking plastic.

Great video brother. I literally just broke that same part. I was going to adjust my belts and it's super cold here in Cincinnati. My adjuster bolt was stuck, not adjusting out like it should, and i put just enough force on it and BAM this adjuster broke, similar to the one in your video. Happy that it's an easy fix and a cheap part. thanks!

I rebuild vintage bicycles and have a ton of tools, but not the ones I need to work on my Subi. I wish I had your collection. Clear and to the point sir. Nice job. Thank you!

Good video. I’d recommend removing the coolant reservoir then the driver-side radiator fan to access that bolt if your like me and don’t have a long wrench.

May I suggest the metal replacement instead of the Subaru plastic oem part next time ? It will last much longer than the plastic which gets brittle because of the heator proximity to the engine.

I agree. That's why I didn't go with the Subaru original part. I Bought the Dorman brand at Autozone, all metal and fits perfectly.

The 5.5 in. adjuster bolt is reverse thread when threaded into new pulley adjuster part. Thank you for confirming..

Be sure to remove the two bracket bolts first to remove the entire unit. (Shown correctly at the beginning). Do not use the long adjuster bolt to loosen. It will break the part. Ask me how I know. Subaru changed the design but the bracket is the same.

I broke the idler pulley adjuster exactly the same way- you can get an adjuster bolt, the two bracket bolts, the pulley nut, and the pulley adjuster in a kit at o'reillys for 18 bucks. Not too bad.

It looks like 0 degree offset extra long box end wrench made by Capri Tools if I am not mistaken.
