    That’s the best feeling in the world. Mother nature teased us early on with good weather and now we have snow on the ground here in Northern California Red Bluff that is, with almond trees in full bloom in some areas. this wacky California weather has pushed back our dates for our first Graft. Great video, Bob and crew.🤙 hello from Northern California

    Finally, the second step of the spring audit involves connecting weak and queenless bee families. Spring is an ideal time for bees to accept new queen bees, and beekeepers can take advantage of this natural tendency by introducing a queen to help build a strong colony.

    Enjoyed the video Bob! In Central AR and I am a couple weeks early here if not more. If we can get through next month without a freak freeze, it could be a really interesting season. I tried the Hive Alive fondant for the first time and was very impressed with it. Bees love it and it doesn't get hard and crumbly. Also, it didn't mold or even discolor at all. Very easy to use and no mess I would very much recommend it for colonies that need a little help when it's too early for syrup. Look forward to seeing how this year goes for you guys Bob best of luck and thanks for all of the great videos!

    Every single day in the spring season is invaluable, and thus, we make sure to create optimal conditions for the bees' development. To achieve this, we replenish their food supply with ready honey, as the over-wintered bees can easily wear out from sugar processing. Their primary objective is to grow a high-quality replacement.

    In order to identify queenless families, we rely on various indicators, such as temperature readings on the top of the nest, pollen collection patterns, and behavioral observations of the bees. We also conduct direct inspections of the beehive and may even use a control frame if necessary.

    • @bobbinnie9872
      @bobbinnie9872  ปีที่แล้ว

      We will also be be doing a deeper inspection on our next trip by looking for brood in every colony. This time we only had three days of good weather to check many colonies.

      @@bobbinnie9872 Good afternoon! I am from Ukraine, where we are currently experiencing a cold winter. I have been admiring your close-knit team and your impressive work. Wishing you a successful beekeeping season ahead.
      During the spring, when the weather can be unpredictable, I check the temperature of my bees by lifting the lid and feeling the top with my hand. While some people use pyrometers to measure the temperature, this method allows me to indirectly assess the condition of my bee families. It is crucial to support them as soon as possible in good weather, particularly in the spring when every day counts.
      I take necessary measures to decrease the size of the bee nests of weaker and average bee families. This strategy reduces energy and feed consumption, ultimately improving the overall health of the colony. Although reducing bee nest size can be a laborious task, in the long run, the benefits far outweigh the costs.

    It was a warmer winter for the most part. We have Crocus up and flowering along with some lawn weeds that I don't see until mid March.
    My friend is a Rabbi. He knows when a spring is going to be early or late. He says to just follow the lunar calendar. He says when Passover is early, it's an early spring. If Passover is later in the spring it's a late winter. He's be quite accurate for a number of years. Look at this spring. It's likely going to be early

    Hey Bob, here in the Northern Rivers, NSW( Australia) in the last month ( early winter) we've had chilled mornings and nights(6C in the morning and 10C after 7p.m.). The temperatures are around the 20C during the day though. This kind of "winter" days are going to last until the end of September and there'll be waves of nectar (PaperBark, Melaleuca fam). There's so much blossoming that I find myself with 6frames of sealed brood and 1 of eggs ( in 8 frames boxes) and ready to harvest again. And there's still drones hanging around... I usually start grafting from Sept/Oct and by the end of January I'm set up. Question: should I move brood frames above the excluder(as I usually do to in Summer)? As I'm tempted ...My set up is: single brood box and two supers. Thank you!

    3rd year beekeeper trying to grow. N. West Louisiana. Took me all day to get through 2 smaller yards. One needs food, one needs another box, one is honey bound, one is too small and I do not know if its just weak or if its not worth saving. One has swarm cells - made several splits. One hive had mice in it so another trip back home to get some hardware cloth to put over the entrance, etc... Every hive needs something different. Hi Bob. I recently watched a presentation on queen failure from poor quality drone failure that got me wondering more about your drone frame use. I notice in your video here you have drone frames in some deeps but not others. Do you remove drone frames in the winter? Can you say more about your philosophy on the use of drone frames or point me to a video if you have already engaged this subject? Thanks so much.

    Great video. Where did you say you get your Caucasian queens from? Are they nice to work with? Do you sell queens? Thanks Bob

      We get our breeder queens from Shibu Raj in Tennessee. www.tworivershoneybees.com/. We do sell queens from May on and will start booking in April.

    Hello. What are the green frames next to the beehive outer board?

    • @bobbinnie9872
      @bobbinnie9872  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are drone foundation frames.

    When you give a small colony a frame of brood from a bigger colony, do you shake the bees off or give bees and brood?

    • @bobbinnie9872
      @bobbinnie9872  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We usually give them the bees too and rarely have problems. However, we don't give a really big brood to a really small colony.

    Starve or swarm, good issue to have I guess.

    Hi Bob, the Carnies are very similar to the AMM bee, Bob. I mainly keep amm, but have some carnies from swarms. And they are very nice bees, have very good traits like the amm. I used fondant from Hive-alive for the second year. And i will know in another 3 weeks how they did compared to my bees i just had plane fondant on. We had a great winter crop of ivy in all my Apairys so i didn't have to feed my bees that much. Im going to try the Hive alive syrup for colonie strength as an additive, it will hopefully help me bring on the new colonies this year. Please God the weather doesn't get colder. We are fluctuating between 9c - 12c which is ok.
    Hopefully everything goes to plan...

      Please let me know your conclusions on that fondant.
