Flying the updated JustFlight BAe 146 from Queenstown to Mount Cook in Flight Simulator

  • Something of a ridiculous flight, given that the BAe 146 can't get back out of Mount Cook without quite considerable trouble. Really just a shake-down to see if anything major has changed in the 146 since the most recent update. We're NOT reviewing each change - just taking it for a flight. Enjoy!
    Sidenote - you CAN take off with more flap :)

    I fly the avro Rj 100 in Canada. There is a min speed you a fly depending on flap setting and angle of bank. Flaps can be retracted at v2 + 10 from 33 to 24. V2 + 20 from 24 to 18. Flaps can be selected to 0 at VFTO unless in a 30 degree turn, and then you would use VER for flap 0. In a departure like this you would have to maintain the flap setting for the speed you were flying +10 if in a 30 degree bank turn until you could accelerate to VFTO or VER respectively. I love the video. I will be downloading this aircraft for sure. Thanks again.

      Great to get some feedback from a real pilot - would love to invite you to a group flight with it at some point if you have time? (Check out the VirtualFlight.Online discord server)

    Your graphics looks absolutely insane 😳 I've moved from Xbox to PC and get my PC this weekend. I can't wait to finally have access to the sim just like all you PC guys it looks amazing. I've went for a RTX 4070 Gigabyte graphics card.

      @jonbeckett the graphics are decent don't get me wrong, but there are stutters in scenery like mountains where you can see the game trying to keep up. Like odd flickers in the textures. Yours looks amazing, can't wait to set up my new PC this weekend and stop playing on Xbox 😂 plus we don't get half the things you guys get on PC

    I'm going to guess that on pushback, the nose lifts off the ground slightly because it is simulating being picked up by a towbar-less tractor...

    Hello Jonathan, thank you for the calm and lucidity you bring to flight simming by way of your well conducted videos.
    I have a question, when you bring up multiple screens simultaneously on then narrow window, what program/app do you use to accomplish same ?
    By the way, your calm and polished British accent is very easy on the ear😊! Thank you.

    For some reason my plane is overspeeding, cant climb at all without going 300 knots... If I even drop it down to lets says 250 knots my plane wont climb at all whatever I do. I selected the altitude, VS or IAS and it just wont climb UNLESS going full thrust

    Hi can u do me a fever and see if the shortcut for auto pilot all work like heading and then laugh mode because I use my shortcut button on my Xbox controller to put on the auto pilot and then you have mode for the plane to follow the GPS and then you know I can control my attitude does not work with this year. I wonder if it works.

    Why didn't you just use flaps if you were so close to the stall speed?

    Always enjoy watching your videos! In the just flight tutorial, they suggest turning APU air on as soon as APU is on (off temporarily during engine start sequence), and keeping engine air 1-4 off until climb. Presumably this should give better takeoff performance? I think that's also why you get the indictor 'AIR SEL ON GROUND'.

    • @Shadowdncer
      @Shadowdncer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the tutorial has the APU providing air to the packs during the complete takeoff and landing with all engine air off. There is also that little quirk where you only run one pack on the ground (1 on odd days, 2 on even). They also have engine A-ICE on during engine start for some reason.

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Shadowdncer It makes sense - all of the various systems detract from the engines. If you play with anti-icing, you lose max thrust quite considerably.

    • @Shadowdncer
      @Shadowdncer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonbeckett Yes, but they have it on for engine start, maybe to divert some power from the fans?

    Heya John, how are you controlling the vertical speed? other aircraft have a dial like control you turn up and down to adjust the rate of accent/decent, but I don't see you using any such switch in this video? and also, while I'm here, I switch the HSI switch to R-NAV and on the Ap panel, I click the L-NAV but the aircraft doesn't follow the flight plan I made on the map screen before entering the flight, GPS? it banks heavy to the right and just doesn't stop, but definitely doesn't follow the line on the VFR map, so confused ... arggggg

    So funny. When I was chatting with you about hotel mode a couple of weeks ago, it was for the flight I was posting with that ANPO3A departure. Love that Queenstown area. I need to get into the 146. I held off of both that and the ATR so I didn't blow by the other stuff I had bought, but the time has come. Thanks for the vid!

    Same with the TBM 850, and the BN2 Islander. These 3 planes have been on my “watch” list for awhile. Problem is that I havent even spent any time in the ATR since buying it. Great problems in life to have I guess 😁
    And almost not to mention the PC-12 coming out any time from SWS.

  • @SN57ONE
    @SN57ONE 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Oh! So the start sequence is 4-3-2-1 instead of 3-4-2-1? I always start it with the latter sequence. Is that just airline procedures or should you start it that way?

    • @jonbeckett
      @jonbeckett  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it varies from operator to operator. I know various other aircraft have a specific sequence (the DC6 comes to mind), but everything I've read about the 146 just says 4,3,2,1. Quite often the reasoning for one side or the other is for no more reason than the side the doors are open. Sometimes, it can be because the brake hydraulics are driven by the right engine by default (I read a fascinating mishap report about a 737 that rolled into the support vehicles on engine start because the crew started engine no. 1 first, but it was the first flight of the day - so the wheel brakes had no pressure in them).

  • @GumperVanLier

    You made a perfect landing! This plane is worth it's price and I was lucky enough to purchase it when it was discounted $10. It is a challenge to fly especially while in cruise as I can't seem to keep it at a steady speed. I've never cold started it like you do though. I'll have to wait for my update as I purchased it via the Marketplace. As for the SID, I notice that LNM many times does not show the correct SID path especially when it changes direction or goes into a circle. If you are flying a plane with the G1000/3000, you can see the actual flight path. Also, Navigraph will show it correctly too.

    • @zuuplaai
      @zuuplaai ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When cruise, see at what TGT setting keeps the desired speed . Then set the TGT with the three dials, then set TGT on the TMS. This keeps the engine on the TGT you selected. this value will be also displayed on the TMS

    If you follow the full checklist you do switch off the APU, and switch it back on as part of the decent check list. Additionally the weather radar has a setting that will show the GPS route instead of the radar display. I don’t know if this feature was available in the real plane, or if it’s only been included by Justflight for those that can’t live without a purple line to follow 🤔
