    Culturally for us Latinos we love our parents and families so much. So their approval and their state of being; mentally, emotionally, physically, financially etc. Is so important to us. We would do anything for them, and I get why santi gets emotional because it’s a huge weight and expectation for us to do the best we can for them because we love them! I respect santi so much for speaking on his situation and being open about it!

    Dam this hit in the feels I think all of us Latinos have that pressure to please our parents because they sacrificed so much. :/ I appreciate you guys doing this Interview and being vulnerable with us

      Nah, I think Asian children have it harder. They're pressured for academic success. Iv dated chinese girls many times and it surprised me of what they told me how strict their parents are.

    • @Lizxsiren
      @Lizxsiren 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ChichenItza91 I don’t think it’s about who had it harder. To some level, some of us can relate to the feeling of needing to fulfill the expectations of our parents, and the lengths we go to try to gain their approval. Reguardless of the race or culture. I’m just speaking on relating to his experience in particular because I felt that pressure as well. But I’m sure others have had similar and or rougher experiences of course.

    I can definitely relate to what he said about how his mother and father reacted to him. I come from a blue collar Mexican American family. Because I was always in the top 5% of my class, there were all these expectations that I was going to choose a successful profession and “make it” (financially speaking). In all honesty, the pressure I felt to follow a more traditional education and career path was out of love and my mother wanting the best for me, but what they didn’t understand was that having a bachelors degree wasn’t the same for my generation as it was for them.
    They came from the era where a college degree almost certainly guaranteed financial stability. But they also came from an era where only one parent worked and they were able to live a decent life.
    By the time I was in college, a bachelors degree was ubiquitous. The competition was much tougher and it’s only become more intense since I graduated. To any Latino kid coming from that super strict background, the best advice I can give is to find whatever it is you want to do and dedicate your energy towards it. Be strategic, be resourceful, be fearless, and be confident. College education is not the only pathway to success. There are plenty of examples of people who’ve “made it” without a college education. But they were persistent, intensely passionate about always wanting to improve, and willing to do whatever it took and sacrifice short term gain for long term success.
    Santea is so young and he’s earning a great income. Hopefully, he’ll have the financial stability to do whatever he wants should this tiktok thing fizzle out. I’m sure he’s going to meet more financially savvy individuals, entrepreneurs, and self made successes. Shaking that immigrant mentality of education being the only pathway to success is so difficult, even if some of our parents aren’t technically immigrants. It’s that old school mentality that there’s only one path. Sadly, I don’t think these kind of parents understand how outdated that way of thinking is and how much pressure they put in their children to chose pleasing their parents and not being seen as a disappointment in their mother’s eyes over following their dreams. I wish all young kids just getting started the best. It’s tough, but follow your instinct, be persistent, be smart and be willing to work harder than anyone else. And you’ll be fine.

    Both of these Latinos deserve their success. Santea talking about his mom is really relatable to me. As I have old fashioned Latino parents who don't understand social media. Santea is one of my biggest inspirations to eventually start TH-cam! I know I'll have success and I'll be able to thank my parents. 🔥💯

    It’s so refreshing to see young Latino men be able to sit down with each other and discuss the hardships they face within their journeys. The vulnerability santea and Leo show in this video is just a great display of breaking down toxic masculinity and will hopefully influence other young Latinos to be more open amongst their friends. That being able to express yourself and cry in front of your friend is not any sign of weakness but just evidence that your human. I don’t think they understand how important this video is to a young upcoming generation of Latinos boys who can often grow up in emotionless households. I wish both these boys the best bc they truly are doing something we have never seen before in America.

    Like @santea said “You believe in yourself as much as you can “…but yes when your parents ,specially the one that gave you life is disappointed it’s hard to pursue your dreams because it’s hard to see your mom disappointed and sad . But the gut feeling to continue is what keeps me going to 🙏🏻 thank you both for speaking very openly it gives me faith that I am pursuing something I love and if that means I am the only one who believes in me to keep going and if I fail try again 🫶🏻

    Santea I know it was hard for you when you heard your mom say that. I'm a mom we want the absolute best for our sons & daughters. I only have sons and it is so hard to be a parent to boys. Your mom is also learning. Sometimes parents reflect on how they were growing up. We all have to just understand times are changing. Every generation is going to be different. Lead your path and learn along the way. But don't ever forget that when being a parent it is hard to let go but we will love you unconditionally. Best of luck to you. God bless you and your family 🙏

    Vulnerable about your story. I’m glad you’re able to be there for your parents, we as their kids want the best for our parents. Life throws many obstacles when we have a parent that is going through health complications. My pops suffered a massive stroke and it forever shaped my life and continues to mold me into a better person. Life is always throwing curve balls, we just gotta trust God and lean on Him for strength. My prayers to you and your family. Many blessings and success! 🙏
