This is an absolute delight. The confidence and rhythmic energy of this concerto is wonderful.

This is my favorite of the 5 ! I first heard Roge in this and it has remained my fave even though we get hit over the head every year with no.2 that magnificent horn solo and suspense in the beginning of no.1 has never been bettered everyone from Brahms in no. 2 and Rach in no.1 must have been affected if they ever heard thisrarely played concerto . No. 4 was the big virtuoso everyone played in theearly 20th century !

Concerto que l'on aimerait bien entendre sur les ondes en lieu et place des mêmes œuvres diffusées à l'excès.

Such emotion, such reality of feeling! The Finns may be shy in public with strangers but this composer knew how to engage.

The Concerto No 1 appeals to me in so many ways, from the magnificent horns in the opening movement to the unaccompanied piano passages in the second and the playful arpeggios of the Allegro. And, as seems to me the more I listen to Saint-Saens, it's all so effortlessly flowing, leaving me smiling beatifically. Fine performance by Collard, the RPO and Previn.

My favorite part is the last movement. It has such youth (being his 1st concerto, I ought not be surprised). It's so uplifting.

All piano concerts are to be listened. I love Saint Saens, with all his magnificent compositions and his terrible life.

Thank you for uploading this exceptional performance of this splendid concerto of Saint-Saens. The work is perfectly beautiful, and the second movement is given the appropriate weight and pace by Collard and Previn, an amazing movement, contemplative and probing. Along with Roge/Dutoit and Malikova/Sanderling, I find this to be one of the finest sets of the 5 Saint-Saens piano concerti ever recorded.
