I love that Aunt Lydia's and the Coats brands are still around today!!! Such great history to explore!

I thought that was neat too and that a lot of things they were doing were crochet rather than knitting.

Very interesting! So nice that a few families are still there.

They are such small houses. It is hard to believe that people are still living in them. They are only 12 x 24 and 2 floors.

@@katrinascreationscrafting That is really small. I’d be claustrophobic.

Hi Katrina, It was great seeing the Eckley Miner's Village. Really interesting. I like how the duplex was "born" so to speak. And the rooms they slept in weren't to big. The doctor's house looked lavish for only being paid a $1 a month from each miner. And the miner's only making $20 a month, wow!

What amazed me was that 5 families still live in the village in those little duplexes.

So interesting Katrina, the houses and buildings look well-cared for, glad this town is being preserved. Every time I drive to Johnstown, I pass by Windber, a coal mining town. So many houses are the same, company houses that are very close together,

We've been to Johnstown. That was an interesting town, too. When Dave was in college (he was a construction manager) they always watched films about why the dam collapsed. So it was interesting to see it first hand.

I grew up in Johnstown. The town of Windber was next door! It was named after the Berwind Coal Company. Bituminous in western PA! When that steam locomotive came through town, or the blast furnaces were lit, everyone swept off the soot from their front porches! Thanks for this walk back in time!

@@suelowther5104 You know all about coal mining then, I knew Windber was named after Berwind Coal Co, in recent years the residents were complaining about the coal trucks going through their town.

So interesting. A branch of my family were a mining family from a mining village in wales. I’ve researched a lot into their lives and the area. It was so interesting seeing the similarities and differences to Eckley 😊

There is a series on TH-cam called Coal House where 3 families in Wales go back and live as coal mining families in the 1800's it is really interesting. They also did a series in the same location, but during the WW2 era.
