- Hello! We live in Japan with two Asian Small-Clawed Otters.
Kotaro: Male, DOB 11/10/2017
Kotaro has a scar on his tail from being bitten by another otter when he was still a baby.
Hana: Female, DOB 11/24/2018
They have been toilet trained; they use a special pad that is designed for small dogs.
Since I'm using a translation function, my sentences might come out strange.
Please provide me with corrections if anything is translated improperly.

Hana is so cute coming out of the pillowcase. Such a cutie pie. She's ready for breakfast. Kotaro feels more secure under the pillow. They are adorable. I wish that I could have otters here in USA. Unfortunately it's against the law in having these exotic pets.

It's because they are still considered "wild animals" even though they were from a breeder...
Also, one can't own any other kind of "wild animal"... Including rescued one's...
It is actually legal in some states. But you will probably still need a special license. And I'm sure otters aren't widely available either.

And the special licenses needed for "exotic animals" are costly and not all states will issue them and then there is the Federal Government...
I live in Maryland and others aren't part of our animal population and not sold though Petsmart, etc. ... 😉😄
In Germany too. No chance to have an Otter at home :(

Our furry/feathered/etc housemates allow us to sleep with them and share THEIR beds/homes with us. FACT. (and we are lucky to have it that way!! 🤗🤣❣)
