Want free shooting skill? Place a sleeping spot on the ground and have colonists attack it with ranged weapon. Sleeping spot is unkillable but shooting skill goes up up up.
here's a tip, if you build a room/crypt with sarcophagus in them and bury your colonist it cancels out the debuff of having "colonist died" with "buried in a sarcophagus " also the builder will sometimes create an illustration depicting how the colonist died and the date.
Great set of tips. I wish I'd had this video a couple of months ago! :D My tip: I like to create a set of double doors on the entrance/exit to my colony, preferably made out of granite. I keep them locked open most of the time (so I don't hinder the colonists' movement), but when a manhunter pack comes and attacks you can quickly go and shut both sets of doors. They shouldn't be able to break even the first door but it's always good to have that second one just in case - RimWorld redundancy syndrome again. This is for when you don't have the firepower to repel a savage pack of animals, like when I had 20 wargs charging at my base! They would have torn me to shreds. Hope that helps.
Ah!! I'd never thought of having someone there repairing a single door as the crazed animals beat on it. Thanks SBlack, I'll bear that in mind in my next colony.
this was great. super useful tips. i would add creating backup generators by putting a switch in front of some full batteries. these keep their charge during emergencies like a short, and can be switched on while the grid is fixed
I'm sure you've heard a lot of this but thank you so much for making these explanations really short and concise; I knew 1/3 of them but only losing 2-3 minutes of my time caused my interest to stay invested in the video. Nicely done
A advanced tip that i figured out on my own, make a custom dumping zone in your killbox for your trash chunks, like on my colony i have more slate than i could ever deal with, there is a movement penalty for walking over chunks which i am more than willing to exploit during a warg attack
Wow, 200 hours or so into the game and didn't know most of these...good looking out, great concise delivery, this is just a prime example of a great tips/tricks video. Can't thank you enough here.
Hey Grey! I know this is an older vid but I never even thought about the quick med spot in the field! I can think of 4 times off the top of my head that it would have saved a life
Another ADVANCED TIP: BOB'SS (Beast of burden stacking Stockpile) In your freezer create an animal zone 3x3 or 4x4, name it names it BOB"SS. Now place a stockpile same name of the same size in the same place and set it to store the corpses of any animal your colony may rise and slaughter (NOT HUNT). Now whenever its time to cull the herd for there meat or lack of feed, send them to the BOB'SS zone. After they arrive quickly as possible set them to slaughter and have a pawn do it asap. As the body's drop, they will STACK meaning you won't have one Pig or Buffalo taking one tile they will be on the same tile or have several on one tile. If your not in need of meat at the time of slaughter, forbid the body's and watch them pile up! At one point I had over 100 BOB's in a 4x4 zone in my freezer, one pig was 6 years old, lol.
Stuff doesn't deteriorate as long as they are below a roof, not on the floor. However, since your mortars are probably not going to be placed under a roof, you would use equipment racks because they prevent items from deteriorating outside. In the most recent update, I'll have my caravans set up temporary settlements to be used as camps, and I use one wood with roof around it as a 'tent' while I hunt and then make meals.
tipp for alpha 16: increase the max. amount of colonies by 1 in the option menu and keep atleast one colony slot free. now you can found a new colony when one of your caravans runs low on food. campfires are a good way to make simple meals and you get constant heat if it is witer and/or they are in a cold biome.
he only figured the out the fact that there are different types of joy out 2 days ago myself ^^ lost a colony to it even since all my joy was dexterity based and they had a 95% reduction to it already also a two wall thick barrier is the most simple not the most effective way of keeping things hot or cold the most efficent in terms of material after the single wall is two wall with a heated or cooled area between them as far as i can see rimworld heat works on the difference between each room the outside being a room with static heat in this as such by cooling a room with a double wall is good but with an area between even if you do not cool or heat that one it is a buffer to the outside with a different speed of heat loss due to the smaller difference in decrees to either side of it just make sure your doors in the outer and inner wall dont connect to the space you use to buffer that way you also have a airlock of a kind with your doors just think of one of those flask for hot tea in winter that utilise vacuum not sure of the english term of em right now but that is what you would be using the buffer for you dont prevent the heat loss like a vacuum but by slowing it down with the decrees in difference you can get a lot of energy savings p.s. sorry for the wall of text but i currently play maps on ice sheet with permanent eclipse and nuclear winter as such both heating and power consumption are a major concern ^^
Handy info, thanks. #3 (Lock the lazy little sh!ts in a room until the job is done) is an especial favourite. #7 Drug policy and #20 Exploding shells were also news to me.
The drug policy has helped me immensely in my Psychopath playthrough, where half of the colony is psychos, but the other half are normal people. We butcher so many people and rip out so many organs, the regulars are kept in check with smokeleaf and beer.
#6 I wanted to do that for so long, I didn't even know this was possible. I have been playing for 490 hours, Why couldn't I of watched this video sooner,, it would of saved me so much more time.
Another note on 27: If the situation is extremely urgent, you could restrict the wounded person from any medical care, which, ironically, provides life-saving doctor care.. simply without medicine.
If you have a fire weapon like a molotov, you can burn down bodies without the cremation machine. Make sure you have a stock pile awa from your base and put it to dead bodies only. Then simply use your unit with the molotov and throw fire to the bodies, safe and much faster and also burns the clothes
in the beginning of the game killing a bear can be difficult. but rewarding i utilize the technique of having one person shoot the bear then run around a group of people shooting the bear running around the people reduces friendly fire chance and keeps the bear close to the shooters. i murmured a bear with 2 people and a hand gun :) very informative
GrayStillPlays lol i wont ever beg nor ask for shout outs, still waiting for my badass assault rifle :3 if you wanna have a a great shooter, such as myself, gimme 2 bionic eyes
i'm fairly sure you were just pointing out his verbal error, but if not (and for others) look at your number-pad on your keyboard, numbers 789 and 123 are all beds aligned vertically, 4 and 6 are beds aligned horizontally, with 5 being the monitor
Any interest in doing a tutorial of the Development tools? I'm fairly new and it's not exactly the most straightforward tool set I've ever seen. I'm still having a hard time finding things and figuring out what I can do with it.
It's a matter of the disparity of the temperature from the outside compared to the temperature inside. What I mean is, in an Ice Sheet campaign when it was -80C outside, double walling and double dooring kept my inside at 20C, compared to like 1C.
Yup, they're out there for sure, a LOT of them are from the commentors. Of course this is a bit easier than watching 30 hours of Rimworld Let's Plays :D.
Want free shooting skill? Place a sleeping spot on the ground and have colonists attack it with ranged weapon. Sleeping spot is unkillable but shooting skill goes up up up.
Attempting this post haste!
Don't guns deteriorate a bit when used?
@@SuperMichael996 they do now, but a tip is to always keep bad guns from raiders to utilize in this metod.
here's a tip, if you build a room/crypt with sarcophagus in them and bury your colonist it cancels out the debuff of having "colonist died" with "buried in a sarcophagus " also the builder will sometimes create an illustration depicting how the colonist died and the date.
Does this work with animals?
Great set of tips. I wish I'd had this video a couple of months ago! :D

Hope that helps.
Obviously, you need to have your base completely enclosed with walls for this to work.
Ah!! I'd never thought of having someone there repairing a single door as the crazed animals beat on it.
Thanks SBlack, I'll bear that in mind in my next colony.
Oh my god imagine RimWorld in the hands of 2021!Gray
this was great. super useful tips. i would add creating backup generators by putting a switch in front of some full batteries. these keep their charge during emergencies like a short, and can be switched on while the grid is fixed
Glad it helped.

Real life is less deep than this game.
Kaynos have you heard of dwarf fortress? like this but no graphics and way more complex.
So you DONT have a organ farm in your basement?
Hey Grey! I know this is an older vid but I never even thought about the quick med spot in the field! I can think of 4 times off the top of my head that it would have saved a life
Trigger happy pawns make great grenadiers
Mechanically that definitely makes sense. Of course it's weird that someone trigger happy would be good at tossing a grenade.
Another ADVANCED TIP: BOB'SS (Beast of burden stacking Stockpile)

Wow just got this game never thought grey played it 4 years ago xD
Stuff doesn't deteriorate as long as they are below a roof, not on the floor. However, since your mortars are probably not going to be placed under a roof, you would use equipment racks because they prevent items from deteriorating outside.

3:45 It's 12x12 or 14x14. Depends if you count walls or not.
I've played this for 40 hrs. And this video still had a bunch of great tips... nicely done!
tipp for alpha 16: increase the max. amount of colonies by 1 in the option menu and keep atleast one colony slot free. now you can found a new colony when one of your caravans runs low on food. campfires are a good way to make simple meals and you get constant heat if it is witer and/or they are in a cold biome.
Concise info is such a rare quality in YT. Well done, sir.
he only figured the out the fact that there are different types of joy out 2 days ago myself ^^
lost a colony to it even since all my joy was dexterity based and they had a 95% reduction to it already
also a two wall thick barrier is the most simple not the most effective way of keeping things hot or cold
the most efficent in terms of material after the single wall is two wall with a heated or cooled area between them
as far as i can see rimworld heat works on the difference between each room the outside being a room with static heat in this
as such by cooling a room with a double wall is good but with an area between even if you do not cool or heat that one it is a buffer to the outside with a different speed of heat loss due to the smaller difference in decrees to either side of it
just make sure your doors in the outer and inner wall dont connect to the space you use to buffer that way you also have a airlock of a kind with your doors
just think of one of those flask for hot tea in winter that utilise vacuum not sure of the english term of em right now
but that is what you would be using the buffer for you dont prevent the heat loss like a vacuum but by slowing it down with the decrees in difference you can get a lot of energy savings
p.s. sorry for the wall of text but i currently play maps on ice sheet with permanent eclipse and nuclear winter as such both heating and power consumption are a major concern ^^
Norlan4u can you link an image of a setup like this somewhere? I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean.
here a link to a quick minimalist version of it i just made
steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198007259682/screenshots/#scrollTop=0
hope this helps
Yeah, that does help, thank you.
Norlan4u pro^^^^
3 years in and the tips are still applicable
Thanks Gray and everyone in comments for the tips!
The music is annoying when trying to hear what you are trying to say
your video editing and information quality is so good Gary rocks
Thanks partner!

can't believe I just found out you play rimworld...
Man I've never heard grey being so calm
Thank you for the farming restrict tip - very helpful!
#6 I wanted to do that for so long, I didn't even know this was possible. I have been playing for 490 hours, Why couldn't I of watched this video sooner,, it would of saved me so much more time.
Great tips, some I learned the hard way, some will definitely make colony life that much easier.
Rimworld is such a great game, thank you for this guide :D
I have over 300 hours into this game and I still learned something. Wow.
same ! try Minecraft tho, and multiply by 10 haha
Revisit some more RimWorld maybe?
the one about putting a medical sleeping spot on the ground next to a downed colonist is genius
Nice tips and guides u make, thumbs up and subbed, keep up the good work!
great tips specially the gun range and chair while working didint knew how to do it thanks
Great tips, some of them I didn't know before:3
I've actually been playing for a bit and some of these were pretty helpful :D
Man I've been playing for years and I didn't know about the force fire. That'll be handy
This was extremely helpful! Thanks alot! :D
My indentured maidservant tip made the cut, nice. As for my favorite Gray tip, truth be told, you've yet to implement it. It's the fridge of cobras.
Another note on 27:
If the situation is extremely urgent, you could restrict the wounded person from any medical care, which, ironically, provides life-saving doctor care.. simply without medicine.
actually you can have a room be as long as you want so long as its no more than 12 deep. :P Yay semantics!
This was very informative !
If I only got a beer if my mood level was below a certain point I would be a rollercoaster of mood swings.
Been playing for 270 hours on this game. Still learned a few things.
Great vid keep them coming.
Thanks Grey! Foxy info as per usual! Just getting into Rimworld myself, these tips will surely help out!!
Thabks for this video I did not know a lot of this
If you have a fire weapon like a molotov, you can burn down bodies without the cremation machine. Make sure you have a stock pile awa from your base and put it to dead bodies only. Then simply use your unit with the molotov and throw fire to the bodies, safe and much faster and also burns the clothes
tnx Gray! Learned a few more! ---SHD
I've learned quite a bit from you!
The cleaning rooms tip is great
in the beginning of the game killing a bear can be difficult. but rewarding i utilize the technique of having one person shoot the bear then run around a group of people shooting the bear running around the people reduces friendly fire chance and keeps the bear close to the shooters. i murmured a bear with 2 people and a hand gun :) very informative
On number 27, i actualy have a small field hospital near all my defencive possitions
very useful tips.. good job..tqvm :D
wearing a tuque and the categorized item list was the best for me
Great Video!
nice video! learned a bit :)
Glad it could help.
Here's a tip, don't play annoying music in the background :|
tip of the decade
Thanks man! most of that i didn't know! =D
thanks. i learned some!
Glad it could help.
lol i see what ya did, Gray... you put me in for the chair tip... :3
Oh yeah, you guys helped me out a lot with tips :D.
GrayStillPlays lol i wont ever beg nor ask for shout outs, still waiting for my badass assault rifle :3 if you wanna have a a great shooter, such as myself, gimme 2 bionic eyes
Nice of you doing that =)
No problem :D.
Awesome! Thanks!
amazing guide and very useful tips!
the backgroundmusic however (shrill dubstep is that?) is not the best choice imho ;)
Great video.
awesome! subbed
Yo Thanks Fam!
4:40 3+1+2= 8? I don't get it...
i'm fairly sure you were just pointing out his verbal error, but if not (and for others) look at your number-pad on your keyboard, numbers 789 and 123 are all beds aligned vertically, 4 and 6 are beds aligned horizontally, with 5 being the monitor

that cleaning tip though XD
works in real life too.
realy good vid thx
Glad it could help.
tnx Gray!
Welcome!
This channel has gone far.
the double wall thing only changed the temp of my freezer from 280 degrees to 278 degrees and yes, I use kelvin
It's a matter of the disparity of the temperature from the outside compared to the temperature inside. What I mean is, in an Ice Sheet campaign when it was -80C outside, double walling and double dooring kept my inside at 20C, compared to like 1C.
I accidentally clicked the categorized list in my first five minutes and assumed it was on by default
This was my experience.
That growing zone with the hydroponic basins look very much like a swastika...
thats 6 hospital beds. thats a doozy
How can we do jacket
What kind of turrets is that? the two separated ones on the right
from the Glitter Tech mod
If I knew every single one of these, does that mean I'm a Master Player? XD
You are!
Yay!
But why do I always die to a bunch of psyched squirrels, then?
Randy, that's why!
What is that turret mod? 0.0
Do you use mods?
heheheh, i cant utilize most of these (around 75%) because my colonists go insane in about a week or so.
I knew most of the tip cause some of them you tell us on your other videos
Yup, they're out there for sure, a LOT of them are from the commentors. Of course this is a bit easier than watching 30 hours of Rimworld Let's Plays :D.
I will probably stick with the lets plays xD
how to build ship
plz help me
What mods
GOOOD
Really no point in saying First! :D
Ooh shiny
I feel smarter
Please... Promise me to never ever perform surgery on any colonist in that medical room. Space around a bed is important for doctors.
Damn that music is obnoxious
