  • The world feels more upside down than ever, as Donald Trump staged a victory tour in the wake of his convictions and Republicans on the Hill fell completely and obsequiously in line. A great Talking Feds panel of Susan Glasser, Jacob Weisberg, & Rick Wilson analyze Trump’s total capture of the party & what it portends for November. We then move to the Hunter Biden conviction & why it ties Rs in knots, and close by discussing the sophomoric vote in the House to hold Merrick Garland in contempt.
    -
TALKING FEDS PODCAST is a roundtable discussion that brings together prominent former government officials, journalists, and special guests for a dynamic and in-depth analysis of the most pressing questions in law and politics.

Of course! However, half this country is not mature, not adult. Their brains were evidently fed by TV and movies, American pop culture.
Half this nation's electorate is like you -- adult, competent, informed, educated, wise, kind, compassionate -- to varying degrees.
The Maga half falls in lust with an authoritarian because they need a "father-figure", but don't have the character, or wisdom, to know a good father-figure (Biden), over a TV-fatger-figure -- a bestial, debauched autocrat.

I was on a sequestered jury for a first degree murder trial back in 1986. Obviously we didn’t have the Internet back then but we all seemed to take our duty seriously.
I was thinking about the trial just the other day. It was obvious that we didn’t talk about the trial between us until deliberations, even though we only had each other to talk to 24 hours a day for 8 days. The reason I know that is that when we went into deliberations, I was sure that everyone had watched the trial exactly like I had. I figured we would talk about it for a little while and then vote and convict him. I was shocked when the first vote came back 3 guilty and 9 not guilty. We spent two days deliberating and made a decision that I have felt confident in for the last 38 years.
Btw, we were sequestered at a Howard Johnson’s

The boat story was the same as when trump impressed himself when he came up with the idea of eating bleach to cure COVID. He thought no one had ever checked that a large electric boat might electrocute all passengers if it took water. He thought he was having an Einstein moment. The same way he said, “Do you know that ‘U.S. also is ‘us?’ As if no one on the planet could see some words mean different things.

    • @unseenforcs
      @unseenforcs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

It was kind of a scary insight into his thought process. To think "bleach can kill covid" and "covid is in the lungs" and then make an attempt to marry the two....to even get to the point of trying is a very troubling sign. To actually say it out loud to an expert and to millions of people watching is somethign else entirely. And this wasn't the worst of the transgressions. He really seems to have some type of arrested grade-school level IQ.

@@dfuher968 If you are from another country - you would have no reason to know this - but there has always been this element within the republican party - I have heard it called a recessive gene - but it has always been there - dating back to the 30s - there was a group that attempted a coup - it was lead by the father / grandfather of future presidents (Bush). Senator Joseph McCarthy - in the 50s - they have typically been held back - in their cage by the grown ups - but not always. I think in the end the mass of the American people will prevail. There was a lot of forces in play that lead to Trump winning in 2016. Since then the trends have been very very clear that in the overall general population has been rejecting Trump and his cronies. Of course citizens of other western democracies have very real reasons to be concerned - and you have seen that by the substantial ramp up of defense spending in France, England, Germany etc. I still do not think it is at a point where you need to give up hope - the next few months - will be very tenuous and anxious but if this election turns out the way I think it will - then perhaps some of the fever will subside - and we can all start getting back to life as a little more normal. Certainly in the allied countries.

What we cannot fail to mention and recognize is the impact that the NY trial and conviction has had on him mentally. I believe the ordeal and the outcome have both diminished him far more than people know. I believe those days of his sitting with his eyes closed in the courthouse, unable to escape his appointment with justice, was mental torture for him. The fact that he has several more trials to juggle while conducting a Presidential campaign makes his verbal demise and loss of mental acuity very understandable.

If "trumping the shark" is a take-off of the term "jumping the shark" from the TV show HaPpY Days, it is SO accurate !! Going to any gains to try and revive past affection. The rats are deserting the sinking ship.

MAGA supporters and just “maybe Trump” supporters , focus on how Trump makes them feel about certain issues, not the exact words. Activating a voter’s feelings is much more effective at motivating the decision of whom to vote for rather than facts. For dedicated Trump supporters, the use of confirmation bias shields them from changing their opinion based on new information.
These two things explain almost all of his support.

    Hi harry,
I have questions. Now that judge Cannon has made it obvious she is team Trump and obviously unwilling to do her job. Question why haven't Jack Smith charged Trump with obstruction in New Jersey? What can the people do to contact Jack Smith and encourage him to keep fighting and get the case in front of a new judge. Thank you for all that you do Harry.

and sure, it bears noting that we've had a President who literally could not stand up but appeared to stand up through leg braces and the support of people who stood next to him to be sure he didn't fall over. A very famous President. Body isn't what's important in that office. For all we know, Stephen Hawking could have done a reasonable job and he had to speak with darting his eyes at sensors.

The public still hasn't turned its full attention to politics as yet. My concern is that you leave a significant amount of funds for advertising closer to election. The last-minute Comey move helped Trump in 2019. Taje note.

Harry, I greatly enjoy your work, and appreciate the varied expertise your panelists provide. These weekly programs provide good, in-depth analysis and discussion. HOWEVER, including a comedian with no real expertise on the subject beyond a couple of anecdotes "punched up" for comedic effect really detracted from the show and added nothing. Sorry. Even the sponsored bit about alcohol was better. Please consider it a failed experiment, not to be repeated.

Sounds like AI bots might become the jurors of the future. Why not? There
is no chance they've heard about the case, they don't have biases and can't be intimidated, they can be sequestered every night and weekend by turning them off and locking them in a closet. They can withstand unpleasant autopsy photos and won't be derailed by emotion. Nobody has to miss work and nobody scores free lunches. IDK if there is a way to discern the veracity of witnesses, but that could maybe be programmed in. They can be programmed to consider only the evidence presented in court. It could actually work out.
