    FYI - If you hold "Volume Down" and press "Power" (instead of Volume Up + Power as you mentioned) you hear a chime sound and it goes directly to the boot menu, saving you the step of having to choose the Boot Menu from Bios Menu.

      Ya'll, my steam deck arrives Wednesday!!! Oh my gawd, what do ya know, what do you say!? Im bringing with me to work everyday cuz I got alot of downtime in my truck when getting unloaded and stuff. If I want to get online away feom home, how do I do that? Is there wifi I can buy to use for the deck on the go? Can I use my Verizon mobile hotspot? How does that work? Most games I like I can play offline so it's not a big deal if I can't get online away from home but would be nice to know.

    • @MechanicaMenace

      Both work well on the Steam Deck in SteamOS. I haven't tried Batocera yet though

    • @johnfrankster3244
      @johnfrankster3244 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why on earth would you want to? Yuzu already chews through battery & harder to emulate games require all the performance they can get. Why would you want an extra resource running in the background lol? All your going to gain are fps drops & faster drain.

    • @Aeduo
      @Aeduo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@johnfrankster3244 It's not like it'd be using resources all the time just having it installed. Maybe could play those emulators when close to an outlet or something.

    • @imacmill
      @imacmill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@johnfrankster3244 _Why on earth would you want to?_
      That's a seriously idiotic question. I might just as well ask why anyone would want to install Batoceta at all just to play shitty, decades-old, crap games.

    • @BatoceraNation
      @BatoceraNation 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      RPCS3, Yuzu, and even some Xenia work on Batocera Steam Deck.

    Set up video would be great, but as someone who hasn't gotten their deck yet and haven't been able to experiment, I'd love to see a comparison video between Batocera and Emu Deck, if the differences are at all significant in your opinion.

    • @LordBrizz
      @LordBrizz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Batocera is a full OS that runs the emulators. EmuDeck is just a script that installs the emulators from Discover on the Deck and configures them to make setting them up a bit easier.

    • @pmurph1
      @pmurph1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LordBrizz I think he might mean Emulation Station but I'm not positive. I had the same thought as you.

    • @TheCoolDave
      @TheCoolDave 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LordBrizz RIGHT but, is there any performance boost using Batocera on the Deck vs EmuDeck? I've got EmuDeck setup and it runs great but, some, for example, higher end PS3 games don't play it at all very well, IF this made a boost when some of these harder to run games could run, then it would be worth the change. I get the appeal but, with EmuDeck, there is no reboot, I can switch from a Steam Game and start playing Switch games with no reboot in-between.

    • @jrok96
      @jrok96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCoolDave yeah but it doesnt it clutter things up having all your emulated games mixed in with pc games?

    I got this running on my SteamDeck this week and so far everything I've thrown at it has played great. Russ over at Retro Game Corps has a Batocera install video I followed. All you do is flash the microsd, then boot it up on your Steam Deck. Copy over your bios and roms through the file manager in Batocera. It took me maybe an hr to get running and it was my first time setting up Batocera.

    Batocera is amazing and this is a really great alternative, but I think I'm going to stick to EmuDeck because I can have both retro games and Steam games on the same SD card, so no need to swap my SD card in and out, causing wear and tear of the mechanism in the slot, and no need to go into a boot menu.

Even with the 512 GB model you still need a 1Tb SD card for your Steam games; and swapping SD cards when you want to play emulators is not really ideal. At least with an external SSD via USB you can hot plug it I believe, so it is much easier and less prone to lose your SD card while you swap it
