I do wish they would pronounce Cheng correctly... I understand Chinese pronunciation is different than American English but it shows respect to the athlete, who was truly one of a kind.
Exactly. Especially as her name was pronounced correctly by both American and international commentators during her competitive tenure--even Tim Daggett. So there really is no excuse for such a mispronunciation other than outright disregard.
Compared to other Chinese words 程 pronunciation is pretty easy. It’s said like Chung but then tone is the difficult part. It is said in second tone which is a rising tone.

It is so telling that the dad has the right motive. He said she is evolving into the choice she's making. To be encouraged is a tricky way to have the child live her choice, not the parent's missed goals.
I would love for the judges to tell me where they found the 0.2 deduction. Im assuming it was not the judge who was photographed with her jaw nearly touching the ground in surprise.
@@_va_773 a little longer in the position? She practically flew out of the building. She was a foot higher then the male champion. Are we talking about the same vault because I thought the whole purpose of sticking a landing was to not move once your feet hit the ground. I've never seen someone be deducted for saluting too quickly and not holding her position. I mean what would she of done just stood in place for two seconds? Which Makayla are you talking about because there are two great vaulters with that name and maybe your thinking of the other one.
@@_va_773 I'm not trying to rumble with you here I know absolutely nothing about judging gymnastics so can you explain what position your talking about? Do you mean how Shawn Johnson would land? She's the only one I can think of that I've seen do that. Or do you mean in the air? To me it seems like as long as you complete the required turns your okay. In fact I think she had quite a bit of time in the air since she morphed into a bird after take off. Also are judges able to watch the skill in slow motion or can they only judge what they see in real time?
Exactly. It’s the big elephant in this whole video. She is the best vaulter in the world right now, the olympic and world gold medalist and they aren’t saying anything...suspicious.
Molly McCarthy Iconic? Not really. It was all overhyped. Kerri didn’t even need to do that second vault. The first one would have secured Team Gold. She broke her ankle for nothing really.
Brilliant brilliant video. I saw the exact vault that I broke my back on & ended any future in gymnastics. Watching the mental & physical training these women go though is humbling. They are superstars, each and every one 💜
Oh & my accident wasn't because I made a mistake or took a chance or generally stuffed up. My coach was ill & I was in a training camp with other gymnasts & coaches. Set up my springboard & measured my run for my vault. I was a sprinter so had a lot of power. The coach overseeing vault practice saw how the long the distance between springboard & vault was & decided to move it closer because 'it was too dangerous'. It was my usual set up. But she didn't tell me, so I ran full speed & overshot. I can still hear the snapping in my lumbar spine. It was devastating 😞 I'm lucky I got to walk again but that was the end of my sporting career. It took a lot of years to come to terms with. But it could've been worse.
Ouch... I feel for Grace's siblings... I have 4 boys myself... who play hockey and I just couldn't imagine focusing on 1... but they seem happy and adjusted... it's too bad they couldn't get sponsors...

She has every right to be proud of her accomplishments. She was one of the best in the world for a while-I think she deserves some bragging rights! If that’s how she introduces herself in casual conversation that’s another thing, but the interviewer was definitely asking her about her accomplishments-they need to introduce her as an expert, especially since she’s not an active elite
Anyone else find it weird that Kerri strug isn't a part of this episode or documentary at all? Anyone know why? It's too late for me to do a deep dive on the internet for the night!
tbh, on a related note, I'm surprised Dominique Moceanu hasn't been featured/interviewed more in the last couple years. She was one of the very first to talk publicly about the abuse she experienced within USAG and the Karolyi Ranch, as well as at the hands of her parents, and she was totally blacklisted for it at the time. The media painted her as spoiled and attention-seeking, even after she won her emancipation suit and control of her finances. Now she's a successful coach practicing positive coaching techniques, so it feels weird that she, too, seems to have been largely left out of this conversation (at least, as far as I've noticed), despite being one of the first "whistleblowers".
Molly McCarthy probably because the Kerri strug vault has been a main focus in several other podcasts and docs in the last few years. I don’t know if there’s anything new they can add to that discussion, and mentioning it briefly would’ve taken up a lot of time when it’s clear they already edited a lot of people’s footage out. Pretty sure heavy medals podcast goes in depth, if you’re looking to learn more.
Found this video as a brand new gymnastics fan (I’ve always liked the sport I’ve just never actually watched it because it confuses me🤣 but I started watching figure skating this year so now I need a summer Olympic sport to watch while I wait for the 2026 Olympics. And as a Canadian, I love that Ellie black was in this video. She’s my fav gymnast
Mohini was one of my favorites back in the day. Top 5 of personal favorites lol. Mohini, Sacramone, Borden, and really all of the magnificent sevens, and Ohashi and Maggie Nichols. I love them 🖤🖤🥹
Thisbwas a great video up until 31:38. I'm glad they focused on other gymnasts including great(er) ones in this video. The focus on difficulty has fostered more injuries, poorer technique, and just sloppiness to where it's not the best gymnast wins but rather the one who makes the fewest mistakes. Sometimes that isn't true (a certain all around competition comes to mind). If these gymnasts are soo "great," bring back the compulsories. If their technique and firm is so great, they shouldn't have a problem.
Why, just because they made a v brief mention on Simone. She is one of, if not the, greatest gymnasts of all time. She has won a vast amount of medals and has numerous skills named after her. She may not be your favourite but you can not deny what she has achieved. Some prefer balletic more graceful styles, some prefer more powerful dynamic styles. Neither is better. She excels because she can do things no one else can. she excels because she scores highly within the System. She has excellent technique, I don’t know any gymnast or expert who says she doesn’t. World class Gymnasts love her, are they not the experts? She would not be able to achieve what she does without. There is no reason to be bitter about her in a video about gymnastics. It seems personal. All sports change and evolve. At what point do you stay stop, let’s leave it exactty the way it is. Stop at two twists. Only tall thin gymnasts can compete. You can’t do a tumble on a beam. I’m sure people disliked Olga Korbut for being dynamic and not traditional. If everything was just who was the absolute cleanest, no one would try new things or difficult things and it would stagnate.
Great video. Really love Ellie Black and her presentation and skills. I was asked my favorite gymnastic event and nothing more beautiful than Makayla Maroney and her 2012 vault...But I would like to see the girls get the chance to have a pro career and a opportunity to do NCAA. I do wish they would pronounce Cheng correctly... I understand Chinese pronunciation is different than American English but it shows respect to the athlete, who was truly one of a kind.
ikr!!
They also pronounce Amânar wrong
Watching this after Carey tanked her Olympics vault just makes me think.....this is life. Nothing is ever certain. But you show up, everyday and you do your best.
Really good content youtube. Keep it coming. I'm on my free trial month of youtube premium and loved this. Competes with Netflix's "CHEER" documentary. I'll totally pay for premium youtube if the content is as tuned in as this was
Lol, I'm not on youtube premium and still watching this.

I think Oksana Chusovitina is amazing and a fantastic role model. It seems that she has never lost her enthusiasm of the sport. As I write, she has just retired at the age of 46, but I expect she will still go into the gym and enjoy flying.
She said she's trying out for Paris 2024!
Phenomenal woman :)
Watching grace and jade in this after the Olympics makes me so happy :’)
Yeah i noticed that when Simone left the team Grace looked like she didn’t let her affect her at all and was enjoying her self 100% with a huge smile on her face
@@starcraft-bo2mk Grace is a rock like that. She was so consistent and place within a tenth of her Qual and TF AA score.
This is a fantastic series. I can't wait to see the next episode.
Who would’ve thought….jade carey stumbled on vault then vaulted to OLYMPIC GOLD on floor!
I'm always amazed by these young ladies and their ability to do what they do. Very talented and very dedicated. 👍👍
It is so telling that the dad has the right motive. He said she is evolving into the choice she's making.
To be encouraged is a tricky way to have the child live her choice, not the parent's missed goals.
When I think of the vault event, Mckayla comes to mind.
I would love for the judges to tell me where they found the 0.2 deduction. Im assuming it was not the judge who was photographed with her jaw nearly touching the ground in surprise.
@@ericadender4069 bent knees, leg separation and even a step because she needed to stay a little longer on the positiom
@@ericadender4069 maroney, she has to stay at least one second on the position but she didn't
"If Simone sticks around you will never know" I love that qoute
Oksana is such an inspiration not just to gymnastics but to every aspect in life :)
How come they didn’t mention the Biles vault? All that talk about the Cheng but didn’t include that Simone added another half twist to it!
Exactly. It’s the big elephant in this whole video. She is the best vaulter in the world right now, the olympic and world gold medalist and they aren’t saying anything...suspicious.
Also, no mention of Kerri Strug ANYWHERE! The most iconic moment in women's USA gymnastics history (imo), and no one is mentioning it...
Yea, they just forgot about her. I understand they want to talk about the lesser known/talked about gymnasts...but Aly made her way on there q
Don't forget to mention that she just now started LANDING a yurchenko double pike. Absolutely crazy, she's a beast!
Molly McCarthy Iconic? Not really. It was all overhyped. Kerri didn’t even need to do that second vault. The first one would have secured Team Gold. She broke her ankle for nothing really.
That's a difficult situation for Grace, I am glad she made the Olympic team
Oksana is 45 and she's still going such an inspiration 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👑👑👑
Brilliant brilliant video. I saw the exact vault that I broke my back on & ended any future in gymnastics. Watching the mental & physical training these women go though is humbling. They are superstars, each and every one 💜
No, they are prey for molesters. I'm glad you didn't have to go through that. It's good you broke your back!!!
@@nielgregory108 I never thought about it like that but you're absolutely right!!! I was one of the lucky ones 💛💚💜
Watching these superb athletes in slow motion is like (to me) as mesmerizing as watching Formula 1 in slo mo. Well done!
Seeing Jade Carey on here is too funny too! Girl got GOLD in floor baby WHOOOOO
All of the people in this are absolutely amazing legends
Ouch... I feel for Grace's siblings... I have 4 boys myself... who play hockey and I just couldn't imagine focusing on 1... but they seem happy and adjusted... it's too bad they couldn't get sponsors...
Nellie Kim is my favorite! She was taught incorrectly and it made her the best in the world, what a story!
And now Grace made the Olympic team! So proud!
And Simone Biles with the Biles Vault and working on a Double Pike Vault 😱😱😱😱
I know , but I hope she debuts her TTY
@@madibea8644 she’s not going to do the TTY, double pike, and probably not the biles vault either. She’ll probably just do the cheng and amanar and maybe she’ll throw something in event finals if she’s feeling by risky.
@@brodypenn I completely understand how unlikely it is that she does debut a TTY but I still would love to see her do it in competition even though she probably won’t
I was waiting for them to talk about mckayla
Same
I wanted to see more about her, I mean she is the best vaulter
@QPHashSS77 In my opinion Mckayla's vault in the team finals was the best
I always say shes not the best vaulter but shes the queen of the amanar
@QPHashSS77 it was a pretty big hit
This series is making me cry a lot!
And now Jade Carey just won the gold in Tokyo
Wow Nellie Kim is really humble isn't she :)
🤣🤣🤣too much truth
She has every right to be proud of her accomplishments. She was one of the best in the world for a while-I think she deserves some bragging rights!
If that’s how she introduces herself in casual conversation that’s another thing, but the interviewer was definitely asking her about her accomplishments-they need to introduce her as an expert, especially since she’s not an active elite
Not the worst. Although I will not name names.
Erin Ames * Cough Cough*... Khorkina ..*Cough Cough* 🙄
@@ddpg9976 Not really. I don't see 5 year olds doing double backs on floor or doing the Kim on beam. 5 year olds usually don't do saltos on vault.

I love Miss Kim’s attitude. And, she went out there and did it.

My heart breaks for Julissa Gomez. So sad. Rest In Peace.
Maroney's vault should have been a 10, without a doubt!
Liberty Laferriere moceanu is heavily featured on ESPN heavy medals podcast! So interesting finally hearing her story.

I thought this was premium? Hmm guess I shouldn’t complain though since I wanted to watch this...
It comes available two weeks prior for Premium members
