ABANDONED Politician's Home In The Woods

  • It’s all too often a family is torn apart over the very place that held them. A place of refuge, a place of so many beautiful memories is now tainted by the tragedy of greed.
This is the story of Jack and Dorothy and the home that held their family.
Jack was born in 1914 and grew up in this country home his father built in the late 1800’s. He was always the go-getter type and believed he would one day be the mayor of this small Georgia town. After marrying Dorothy, his high school sweetheart, his father gifted the newlyweds the house to raise a family in.
But tragically, the happy couple suffered the loss of two of their children.. one of them only an infant. And through their grief, they held each other together with the love they shared and overcame the obstacles of despair; Jack going on to being elected as mayor, and Dorothy raising their 6 other children at home.
As time went on, the children all grew up and moved away while Jack and Dorothy lived out their years in the home that held their family for so long.
But in 1992, sadly, Jack died at the age of 78, leaving behind his estate to Dorothy.. but not long after Jack died, Dorothy passed away without leaving an official will for her children despite the verbal agreements on how their inheritance would be spit.
And although this beautiful home held a love story that lasted for decades, it too, was laid to rest after the children entered a drawn out legal battle with one another failing to come to agreement on how to divide the estate.
And now, like the vines that have swallowed this once beautiful place, the unrelenting nature of greed consumes everything in its path- a family that once was, the home that held them together, and the love story of Jack and Dorothy.
So now, let’s step inside of this place, and let’s see what is still left behind.

I’m from Georgia and this is just so sad that Jack and Dorothy’s children dishonor their parents memory in this manor. If I had a generational family home, I’d never have let it just rot. Thank you for honoring them both far more than their own flesh and blood have.🙏🏼

Usually it's because if the children cannot come to an agreement logically they get mad and say to hell with it or one wants the whole shebang just to be greedy and spiteful then in reality they really didn't want it either but damn sure didn't want anyone else to have it. That's the situation with my siblings, my oldest brother wanted it all because he didn't want none of us other 3 to have anything. And that's the way it is.

And sometimes it’s plain and simple greed.🤷🏼‍♀️ More often than not in these situations grown kids would rather be selfish and petty than growing TF up and settling the estate to move on from any bad or unpleasant memories.
Holding on to a place that supposedly Carrie’s “bad memories” defeats the purpose of healing. Make that make sense.🤨🤔

As an old TV repairman with 35 years experience, I can inform you that that TV is highly prized by collectors Philco Predicta television from the 60's. Few were made. THAT is a keeper!! Way back in the early 70's I worked in a TV repair shop in Mississippi, and actually replaced that picture tube on the top on one of those. Meaning, I actually had my hands on one just like that.

Man, what a cool thing to see. Bet that was a good feeling.y grandpa had gotten a brand new color television back in the very early 80s and he gave me his magnavox b& w and that thing worked for many many years, until 1993 and I got my first color television. When the magnavox went out and no one could work on it or so they said.

I have a fully working Philco Predicta table top model. It's a 1959 Princess model in my library in my home. I was a Television Broadcast Engineer for over 30 years. I have it connected to a DVD player and run Doobie Gillis, Sgt. Bilco, Honeymooners on it for fun when people visit me. Those sets were not real great. Kind of a "dog" of a product. Because of that, many were sold to hotels where they would remain and eventually end up in a landfill.

the giant "bell tower" feature is a heat dissipation tower. Similar to the ancient systems of the middle easter regions. It's an "Air Conditioning" design, heat rises and escapes through the little windows while cooler air flows through the house at ground level creating a cooler environment.

In this case, we had a baby girl in 2008, and it just blows my mind to think that while were were welcoming our new member of the family into our home, folks were still living in the home in the video. Frederick Mathushek was responsible for some of the great advances in piano design ever. And, his pianos are some of the finest in existence today. Jeremy, your videos are fascinating! I’m 70 yrs old, whenever there is a room beside the kitchen, originally it is called a Butler’s Pantry. Usually a sink in there too. Beautiful cupboards.
We used to watch Leave it to Beaver ( it was a new show then ) after school. We had a phone 📞 on the wall just like that one! I LOVE when you look in the refrigerator every time, it makes me smile! The grosser the better eh? Keep up the great work Jeremy. I could listen to you read the phone book, your voice is lovely. Thank you. ❤

Very sad 😔The now adult siblings who grew up in this house make me think of people who say " if I can't have you no one can" and kill their partner.....they robbed themselves and all of the grandchildren of any treasures from the grandparents and of any memories they could have made in the future with their own children.I can't even imagine such greed and selfishness 🤷I feel privileged just to get to view it in this video 👍👍👍

Seeing that particular For Better Or For Worse comic strip on the fridge (the one about the family dog Farley passing on) - bit touching to see they liked that one enough to keep it there. Also can't believe that journal left behind.

Wow, what an amazing home. Idk what the "Bell Tower" looking thing was either but it was fascinating. The girl's room with all the drawings on the wall made me feel nostalgic, I used to want to do that but I wasn't allowed to draw on the waits (of course, lol.) Thank you for another story and walkthrough. That would be incredible to actually touch and read letters dated from so long ago. I've never seen a TV like that in my life, unique find! 💯

I came across your videos about a week or so ago and have since watched a lot of yours and even some of the ones that travel with you and others but they just don’t hold a candle to you. I’ve even seen some of them laugh and mock what generations had to do and how they had to survive, but you seem more in tune with the history. You respect the workmanship of the antique pieces and you envision their story with dignity. I’m into genealogy and cringe at all the pictures and personal things left behind. I assure you there ARE family members out there that would love to have some of their ancestors belongings. But the generations of now tho, they just don’t seem that interested in where they came from. It’s a shame that Jack and Dorothy’s children couldn’t come to some kind of agreement. In the end, they all lose because their ancestors legacy just sits and rots. So sad.

Thank you for an awesome tour. I could, as a parent, just feel the pain of having your children leave the house that was built with and housed love, just left to fall to ruin
My feeling is that the remaining family couldn’t agree as to who should have what items. So in their consummate greed, nobody got it 😢. Just to sad for words.
The peacock feathers? Did you notice that straw looking small keg on the floor? People used to have large vases filled with feathers. Peacock feathers if you were rich. 🤷‍♀️ Just my thoughts.
I wish there was a way to rescue some of those beautiful items.
Can hardly wait until next time ❤️🇨🇦

I'm loving these videos. There's a particular kind of tragic beauty to abandoned places like these... It's a kind of interplay between the grandeur of what it used to be, what it has become, and what it might have been today had things been different, topped off by the knowledge that this is the inevitable fate of all of our dwellings. It's a rare but life-affirming aesthetic that few can appreciate. Those who enjoy videos like this might enjoy the poetry of Edwin Arlington Robinson, namely "The House on the Hill" and "Haunted House".

I really appreciate how slow you go with your explorations. Not moving the camera so much that it give me motion sickness.
Though there are some items missing from around the house. The four paintings and all the family pictures from atop the piano and around the center room. The peacock feathers had been in that large vase on the floor next to the wicker chair. Stuff from the fireplace in the room with the psychic books and a bunch more pictures from the room with two beds. And all the other miscellaneous items I didn't notice. I hope these items were taken by the family and not looters.
Edit: it was the Bros Of Decay 'The Abandoned Mansion of The American Myers Family Hidden For 4 Decades!' if curious.

Once again you nailed the intro! I believe the kids came through there & took what they wanted until the probate court began. Once a property/home etc. goes into probate, legally nobody is allowed to take, remove, or dismantle any of the buildings etc
until the probate court has been settled. I'm sure some of the family members have snuck into the house & removed a few more things but they know there are certain items they can't remove out of there without it being found out in the end. I'm sure this estate is still locked up in the probate court as I'm typing this out. Of course by the time it's settled the only thing they'll be able to do is just sell the property in which this house is sitting & split the proceeds bcuz the home won't be worth anything really. Awesome explore, I wish you a Merry Christmas & a prosperous New Year Jeremy. I'm excited to see what new explorations you'll bring next year.

      @akirak1871 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Do you suppose the same kids who made those crayon drawings on the wall are the same ones who fought each other in probate court for this property and thus caused it to be "abandoned" and ruined? A sad picture of shattered childhood innocence (if that's how it occurred).

Greed can be for possessing “memories” and not just financial gain. The combination often creates bitter inheritance disputes. In my family there were arguments over sentimental items that hold no monetary value to non-family. Very sad. Think of all the collective money wasted in this situation. It’s possible that the proceeds from the sale of the land may not even cover the legal expenses and they end up with a net loss. Such a shame.
