      I think I would first tell the school to put in a swale that would take the water from all the residences. The engineers designing the fields should have known this. How deep is the discharge pipe coming out of the basin and is there any chance that the basin can freeze up in 0 degree weather?

      I’d imagine they have the same rules we do. Any concentrated discharge, I.e. sump pump has to be 10 feet from the street.
      They might have a provision to tie it directly into the storm sewer, but that might be impractical for some reason.

    • @MittyNuke1
      @MittyNuke1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyruse4670 He says in the video that they are not allowed to discharge into the storm sewer, or the street, or within a certain distance of the street. But I agree, an underground pipe that discharges in the same location would be nicer. The pipe would have to be graded so that it doesn't hold any water once the pump shuts off, but you could probably have a much more discrete discharge. Fortunately that's pretty cheap compared to the rest of the project, so I'm sure the homeowner could call them back or do it himself in the future if he wanted to.

  • @tomc7464
    @tomc7464 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Love these videos and the information. If the homeowner was interested in it, a series of rain garden at the low spots seems like a good alternative solution. Obviously the size and depth of the garden and whether it's a good option would vary based on percolation rate of soil, expected rainfall in large storm events, and total area of catchment collecting in those low spots

    I enjoyed the video, and learned from your commentary. Thank you.
    I do have one question, and it might be moot depending on the slope of the yard and driveway...which cannot be determined in the video.
    Why run all that gutter out in front of the fence instead of hiding it in the spruce and pouring out into the driveway (looks like about 8-10 feet) further up the driveway? I was thinking that were it my property I would have asked you to run through that spruce so it runs out right at the base, just at the down-slope edge of the bottom branches, so the downspout is invisible, or nearly invisible when nothing is pouring out.
    Was it an issue of driveway slope/fall at the point where the spruce sits?

We have more rain and freezing nights. My sidewalk collects water and the mail man won't walk on it. This video the yard and driveway on a hill so it drains off into the street. Our city lot the sidewalks were replaced and now lower than our yards. Ice accumulated from the rain the temp drop. I healed from my fall but having a ultra sound on my knee tomorrow. Something didn't heal. Out water main broke now. City is fixing it. It breaks every year. Our lot needs two sump pumps and a new main from the city. My water out of my faucet is milky white. City saids it is all the air bubbles in the main. Just crazy year. Nice video. Entertaining.

    Question: By the water being diverted to go down your driveway, does it not water stain your driveway after awhile? I had my sump pump out down my driveway (from front of house)in the summer and then i divert it into my landscape bed in the winter but both are not good. Water builds up on my grass and is soiling the crap out of it and when it goes down my driveway it stained the heck out of my driveway. I then dug a trench and ran 3 inch septic pipe under my front lawn right to the st. What do you guys think of my set up? There should be no difference between the water going down my driveway and directly to the st right? Just looking for your opinion.

A huge tall tree fell on my house causing damage. The tree roots deteriorated from standing puddles in their yard over the years. One big windy rain storm and topple over it came, crushing vehicle, knocking down brick chimney, busted gas pipe, cracked walkway & stairs. Damaged foilage, just a big mess. I hadn't notified the neighbor previously, so they were in the clear. Insurance paid all repairs

    Do you work with an arborist at all? Since your system wrapped around almost three sides of that large tree - how many roots did you have to cut and are you worried at all about killing or disease damaging the tree - then the tree either falls on the customers house in two years or has to be removed? I find too many "professionals" all into their own skill set and whatever collateral issues are created for the homeowner are not their issue to worry about. Then you watch the professional tree removal youtube videos and you find them badmouthing the crews that cut roots or damaged the trees they later have to remove. Maybe your crew could at least have a discussion with the tree guys to find the best way to get around roots, know how much you can cut before you should worry, or how to treat a cut root to minimize the chance the tree dies or goes into shock?

    One more point...just a suggestion. As someone who has done a lot of work in soft soil, using similar equipment, I've found it to be a good rule of thumb to never run equipment with the tracks (or wheels) parallel to a trench. I always approach and work a trench from a perpendicular (track perpendicular to the trench) angle, when possible (obviously, sometimes, because of structures and trees, it's not possible) When your tracks are perpendicular to the trench there's far less risk of a collapse.
    Easier to slide a few pieces of plywood around as you progress through the project than to deal with a piece of equipment falling in your trench.

    • @moki7685
      @moki7685 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you dig perpendicular to this trench and catch a root you would flip this mini excavator over in a split second. You don’t trench with the machine perpendicular, that is the first thing you learn when getting an operator’s license.

    • @nickbeam5432
      @nickbeam5432 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did that exact thing. I ran poly pipe with a water catch and had a new driveway put in with the poly pipe to cross under the drive way at a slope for gravity, i also ran two inch pipe with a upper water catcher to collect the second story roof water, i ran the pipe on top of the chain link fence painting it the same color as the fence, then took it to a shrub at the edge of the street so it is not noticeable. That fixed 75% of the water from coming into down stairs. After that i re sloped the front and back lawn from the home with a six mill plastic five inches under the dirt and re planted lawn seed. That finally stop all the water issues i had !!!

When I uncovered the pit I couldn't believe how big it was. 12'-14' deep? 10' round at bottom built up to a point at the top where the lid was. Cinder block laid on side with holes for seepage into dirt. Kind of like being inside a pyramid. I filled it with crush stone and regret it . I should've used it to collect my storm water. There's so much room in their it'd take 50 years before the thing filled with debris.. Why don't they use a system like that for Storm water?
