I'm zone 6, near desert with pretty frigid winters. Finding plants is rough. I have a BLAZING Southern exposure out front. We have the famous Prickly Pear growing wild out here. But due to freezing down 30", can't grow most of these. Yet, growing anything but sagebrush requires irrigation. So really tough gardening here. We get too much (a whopping 2") precipitation for desert. 😅

Your gardening conditions indeed sound challenging, but kudos to you for taking on the task! Gardening in such conditions requires a special blend of patience, creativity, and knowledge of native and adaptable plants. Given your description, you'd probably benefit most from xeriscaping, which is landscaping designed specifically for areas that are susceptible to drought or for properties where water conservation is practiced. Here are some suggestions:
      1. Native Plants: Always a top choice because they've evolved to thrive in your specific conditions. Besides the Prickly Pear and sagebrush, there might be other native perennials, grasses, and shrubs that can handle your soil and climate.
      2. Grasses: Consider ornamental grasses like Blue Grama (Bouteloua gracilis) or Buffalo Grass (Buchloe dactyloides). They're drought-tolerant and can provide some visual interest.
      3. Perennials: Plants like Yucca, Agave, and some species of Echinacea might do well. Also, Penstemon and Russian Sage could be considered.
      4. Ground Covers: Look into plants like Creeping Thyme or Sedums which can handle sun and require little water once established.
      5. Mulch: Mulching around plants can help retain soil moisture and prevent weeds. Gravel or stone can also be used as a decorative and functional mulch in xeriscapes.
      6. Irrigation: If you do need to irrigate, consider using a drip irrigation system. It's the most efficient way to ensure water gets directly to the plant roots without much waste.
      7. Soil: If possible, work on amending your soil to increase its water-holding capacity. Organic matter or well-rotted compost can help.
Lastly, consult with a local nursery or extension service. They can offer plant recommendations and care tips tailored specifically to your area. It's indeed tough, but with some research and persistence, you can create a garden that not only survives but thrives in your unique conditions. Happy gardening! 🌵🌞🌾

@@PlantDoHomeGarden actually I’m looking for tall hedge plants. I live in Nevada and im moving to a home that has a wall that neighbors can peek into. I’m interested in planting a hedge wall but im not sure what types can survive in this extreme heat climate. Can you please make a video on this ?
