Thanks Lindsey for this tutorial. I’ve watched it a few times and recommended it to my friends. You’re a good teacher thank you. From the number of views you have I can tell this video is needed. I had gelatos sitting in my stash for months and never used it until I saw this video. There are a lot of how to use gelato videos on TH-cam but most are hard to understand, just a few and I mean a few, including yours were helpful to me. Thanks again.
I’m so glad this was helpful!!! This product is one of the main reasons I started creating TH-cam videos...I hoped that I could show someone how to use them since I’d had a hard time finding videos about them 😉
I love all your videos. Thanks so much for sharing. I’ve been wanting to incorporate these into my paintings on canvas paper as I’ve taken my Bible Journaling to canvas now and am looking for different mediums to mess around with. Thanks for the inspiration.
Lindsey, thank you SO much for this video!! I am new to bible journaling (almost 3 months now) and I didn't know much about gelatos except that alot of people said that they loved them. I wasn't sure how to use them or anything creative to do with them. After watching your video, I will be going home to try some of these techniques out!
Thanks so much for the great tips, Lindsey! I’m just getting started Bible journaling and bought some gelatos yesterday because I heard about their versatility, but didn’t really know all the different ways to use them. Thanks for giving me a jumping off point.
Scribble sticks! I love them. They are not as creamy as neocolor II, but they melt like butter when you add water, and their color stays so vibrant! I wish there were more colors available though. Also Distress Crayons are great! Very smooth product and of course they are perfect to use with other distress products. Enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing!
I'm new to Bible journalin and u r right I have nvr done water color or anything. I just bought gelato and need to learn how to use them . Thx for the video
Hi there! I am brand new to Bible Journaling. I've never worked with gelatos, but I have been intrigued by them. You have inspired me!!! Thank you so much!
by the way, I live in a dry part of Canada so just using a finger for spreading the gelato color is not enough. Depending on how want I the color to spread, I will either wet my finger on a wet wipe, or dip a paint brush in a little bit of water.
May Loo I live in Ontario, Canada ... don’t think it matters where in Canada in winter, you have this issue! I just bought mine and was disappointed how solid there are but misting should help. I have also seen videos where using Gesso on the cardstock first helps them spread better.🇨🇦
Can't wait to learn more about different products from you! I've been wondering about NeoColor II crayons, and if they are permanent after activation. And I love that you showed the Gelatos over gesso and non-gessoed paper. It helps to see what to expect and if one should or shouldn't prep.
Lindsey, Thank you so much! I have been Bible journaling for 3 years but I still feel like I don't know how to use all these products! Your tips are wonderful.
That's a good idea. I pulled out my gelato so after watching this video and you will see them in my next post for Open Journey. Also I can see the packaging has now changed. All the gelatos I have bought are now in clear tubes.
Umm, so I’m totally on the corner having a fan girl moment right now 😂 I need to get back into playing with my gelatos...I sort of have a love/hate relationship with them but I think I might enjoy them more in memory keeping projects rather than Bible journaling. Can’t wait to see what you create with them!
These reminds me of pastels with out all the dust usually associated with chalk .. I bought "Play Day " super Gel crayons at Walmart back to school sale ..These are like lip stick too ..they are water soluble ..and also blend nicely with your fingers .these were a little under ten dollars ...one day i will have some gelatos .Mean while these are close in their nature .
This is a fantastic. I have a couple of gelato and I was not really sure what to do with them. I love your videos. Thanks so much for this demonstration. I wonder if you could do a demo with washi tape. I have a zillions rolls of it and use it all the time, but I just got some faith based washi and I am struggling with using it. Thanks again for a fantastic video.
In Canada. I live in a major Canadian city. Sometimes when I go to Michaels, I have trouble finding gelato sets, so I end up buying single sticks. Good but I miss getting a special 'gift' that goes with a set like a paint brush and a stamp or stencil.
Loved watching this, thanks! Any tips on using deli paper would be great. I'd like to use it for tip ins more - love that it's a bit transparent- but struggle with what mediums work on it well.
That is the main reason why I don’t like using them because they can be difficult to write over. I use a brush pen or a larger jibbed micron pen. Finer tipped pens will clog up and stop working.
This is awesome! Thanks, Lindsey! I can't wait to see your tutorial for NeoColor II crayons. I'd also love to see what you do with Pitt Brush Pens and Big Brush Pens.
Thank you for the video. It was very informative. The matte gel that you said was smoother than gesso, can you use just the matte gel to cover a page to prevent bleed through? Many people in the adult coloring channels have been using gesso to prime their entire paper for watercolor or other paint, but it has a gritty feel to me. Could I use the matte gel as a replacement instead of the gesso? Thank you in advance for any advice or tips.
Sorry what's the other mediun called something like machu?? We can get gesso in the UK but wondering about this other one. Love the little trowel thing too!
Great tutorial - thank you! I'm surprised that so baby wipes are a go-to tool for Bible journaling; does the soap element of the baby wipes cause any issues?
As long as the pigment as all been activated with water then they will be permanent but I’ve found it does still lift if you’ve applied it really thick.
There isn’t a perfect pen for writing over gelatos...they all get ruined over time I’ve found. Be sure that your gelatos are 100% dry...use thin layers and use a more broad tipped pen for better results.
michaels doe not carry gelatos anymore it just says out of stock online and in store...but you can get them at dick blick www.dickblick.com/products/faber-castell-gelatos-sets/
Its is neat but for some reason I feel uncomfortable do it on Bible because feel funny when coloring on God s word and feel like hide his words when coloring on it. I rather now want to do that. That my feeling and now want to do wrong do
Some certainly feel that conviction but I do not. I have several Bibles I can read and study from outside of my journaling Bibles. Gelatos are also one of the many mediums that are translucent so the text can still be seen through them 😉
Even after activating it with moisture and allowing to dry it is NOT permenant, it can be reactivated time and time again, it is only element of you FIX it , if you hold workshops THIS is an important fact you should know sorry
Here’s the description from the Faber Castell website Gelatos are unlike any other product on the market today. This dynamic medium is a compact, acid-free pigment stick that glides on creamy smooth for vibrant color and coverage. Gelatos blend easily with or without water and work well on virtually any porous surface! Creamy, Vibrant pigment Water-Soluble Permanent Transform opaque Gelatos Colors into translucent tints or mists with water. Great for adding color and sheen to any surface, including paper, canvas, chipboard, wood, fabric, ribbon, journal boards and many others! Please note that they list “permanent” as a characteristic of this product. I’ve found that if you don’t completely dissolve the pigment with water then it can still be activated but if it’s completely dissolved then it is permanent once dry 😉
Newbie with using gelatos & bible journaling. So excited to try them. Thankful I ran across your video.

I love the idea of highlighting a different product each week - great intro to gelatos
Thanks!
Ohhhh i think ill try using them with the mat gel medium....thanks Lindsey!!!!! Love your videos!!!!!

I hope this video helps you feel more confident using them! I know a lot of ladies love using gelatos in their journaling.
Was working with gelatos today and had some questions...thank you for answering them!
Yay! I’m so glad it was helpful!

I loved this. Ways I never thought of. Thank you.

OMG!! Now I know how to use the gelatos that I have had in my collection for some time. Thank you for the great how to!!! 💖
Lindsey, Thank you so much! I have been Bible journaling for 3 years but I still feel like I don't know how to use all these products! Your tips are wonderful.
So as you can tell, I'm going way back into the video vault! I told ya I was gonna watch them all😉 I'm still very new to gelato, so good tips!!!
Love it! I’ve been thinking about doing a series where I revisit old tutorials and recreate them 🤔
That's a good idea. I pulled out my gelato so after watching this video and you will see them in my next post for Open Journey. Also I can see the packaging has now changed. All the gelatos I have bought are now in clear tubes.
Oh this looks FUN. I just picked up a few on clearance aft Michaels.
Oh I’ve just discovered this but it’s so very helpful and informative. Thank you!
This is really an incredibly detailed video, thank you!
Thank you for the helpful information!
Thanks for all the great tips
Love this video - I am just now starting with Gelatos!

I'm going to Michael's and pick up a few gelato. Yay, thanks girlie 💜💜💜✌✌Sherry
I LOVE your videos. Totally going to try the stencil idea. ... just need to find some stencils 😂

May Loo .
So very helpful!
Loved watching this, thanks!
Any tips on using deli paper would be great. I'd like to use it for tip ins more - love that it's a bit transparent- but struggle with what mediums work on it well.
I use Elmer's school glue stick to adhere deli paper and vellum in my journaling Bible and my art journals - apply to Both surfaces.
Do you have a video on how you apply gesso? Your videos are always so great!
Thanks! I’m pretty sure this one shows different ways to apply it 😉 th-cam.com/video/4d-Vyg_d3i0/w-d-xo.html
@@LindseyDecor sweet! Thank you! And you are very welcome 🙏 God Bless
Thanks for your information. Once they are dry can one use stickers on them thanks in advance
I’m not sure that you’d get lasting adhesion but I haven’t tried it.
What would you use to write over gelatos? Thanks so much for a great gelato video.
That is the main reason why I don’t like using them because they can be difficult to write over. I use a brush pen or a larger jibbed micron pen. Finer tipped pens will clog up and stop working.
@@LindseyDecor aw, thanks for replying Lindsey. Yes I have found it damages my pens though I love all other aspects of gelatos
@@LindseyDecor that makes sense. I have found that to be the care too. thanks
Hi Lindsey do the fantastix work with black gesso? I am looking for something to help me apply black gesso in tight spots on coloring pages.
I have stampin up water color crayons, any tips for those, love your channel, prayers
This is awesome! Thanks, Lindsey! I can't wait to see your tutorial for NeoColor II crayons. I'd also love to see what you do with Pitt Brush Pens and Big Brush Pens.
I'd like to learn about mica powders

Liz Barton matte gel medium 😉
Great tutorial - thank you! I'm surprised that so baby wipes are a go-to tool for Bible journaling; does the soap element of the baby wipes cause any issues?
I haven’t noticed any issues with the soap 🤷🏼♀️
Do these blend in like oil pastels? Do they transfer like oil pastels will?
I’ve never used oil pastels before so not sure. They do transfer if you have a thick application or if they aren’t activated with water.
Hi Lindsey , what did you call the things you put your gelatos in and where do you buy them? TIA
They are clear photo cases and I get them from Michael’s
Thank you so much! 😊
will the set permanent and not lift like the Marabu does?
As long as the pigment as all been activated with water then they will be permanent but I’ve found it does still lift if you’ve applied it really thick.
i love gelatos
Where did you get your bible cover?
I've been playing with gelatos but found the pens I used were difficult in writing over them. Is there a type or brand you suggest? Thank you!
There isn’t a perfect pen for writing over gelatos...they all get ruined over time I’ve found. Be sure that your gelatos are 100% dry...use thin layers and use a more broad tipped pen for better results.
@@LindseyDecor Thanks so much! I will give it a try.
Would an alcohol wipe work or does it need to be a baby wipe,
The alcohol wipe may dry too fast
Are napkins considered a product? If so, I'd like to see you use napkins. Thank you.
