      They were doing it underneath the very first verse if you listen hard. It was so cool.

    This performance is polarizing; a lot of people really like it, and a lot of people really disliked it. However, three of the upcoming songs are almost universally loved (7, 10, and 12) because they just kill all three of them.

    I'm there with ya. I mean, they killed it for sure, they basically did on every performance here, but I've never been a Britney fan so it's not got that extra pop of "Oh man, I already liked this and they took it up a notch" that I usually get from them. Still, technically it was a great performance.

      Sara's comment was throwing shade on Paula Abdul, who (allegedly) showed up for one of the episodes a bit tipsy.

    Can't disagree. At this stage they are still learning each other and honing their craft. I enjoy none-the-less those flashes of brilliance where they foreshadow what's to come in their careers.

  • @MioneBristow
    @MioneBristow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The true point of it is... they're the smallest group left in competition.
    Dartmouth did a great Queen performance but 18 guys vs 5 people... their very existence and ability to tackle everything they do on this show was amazing.
    And this was one of the longer Kirstie spotlights... she's only got about 2 more solo spots on the show.

  • @Kristina_Rose
    @Kristina_Rose 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I'm not really a Britney fan, so wasn't in love with it either. They were still feeling their way and you can see flashes of brilliance even through some of the noise. The next one is a monumental leap forward and can't wait for you to see it!

    Coming off Love Lockdown this did feel a bit weaker, but I loved how they ended it. Compared to the other groups I thought they pulled something together that was so unique and interesting and did more than just put 3 songs in a row. Now, it might not be their strongest performance on the show, but I remember being blown away at the time. We are a little spoiled now with how good they and other groups are.

  • @rebeccafrost7731

    This performance is lauded more for the foreshadowing it did of the mash-ups they were going to do. It showed us, very early, what they were capable of. True, this wasn't the best example of it, but it was a damn good first effort. And, as we all saw in later years, if THIS is the starting point...well. The rest of the performances are pretty damn good, though. Not all of them hit, but none of them miss completely, either.
    Good vid, liked the reaction, and the honesty. See you in the next one.

  • @margretrosenberg420

    Yes, Mitch had a solo, but note that he was sticking to his lower register. It was Mitch's high register that the network was trying to suppress, because they thought it was effeminate and might lead to the revelation that Mitch is gay.
    No blame to you, but there's something that you aren't catching. It isn't just about how good this performance was. It's also about the fact that, as part of their suppression of Mitch, _The Sing-Off_ had issued a rule that each band had to have a designated lead singer, who would *always* be the lead, and they'd told Pentatonix that their lead singer had to be Scott. (This was the only season that had such a rule.) In choosing a Britney Spears medley PTX ensured that Kirstie had to do at least one solo, which pushed back against the single lead singer rule. Their 11th performance did the same thing even more strongly. They were also establishing that Mitch *could* take a solo, and emphasizing the performances of Kevin and Avi. All of this eventually leads up to their 12th performance where we see the first Mitch-slap ever.
    This also means that PTX was insisting on being allowed some flexibility, which the other bands weren't doing, and that, in turn, meant that their performances were more interesting than those of their competitors. This is a major reason the judges repeatedly said things like "You surprised us again. How long can you keep pulling off surprises like this?" (By my reckoning, the answer is now 11 years, with no end in sight.)

    • @margretrosenberg420
      @margretrosenberg420 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to say that whoever came up with the single lead singer rule clearly hadn't thought things through.
      1. It appears that they didn't tell the judges about it, because not *once* did the judges mention that Pentatonix was breaking the rule.
      2. I have to wonder whether they even knew what the upcoming assignments were to be. A "master mix" of *two* songs? With *one* lead singer? And that's supposed to work how, exactly?
      3. They didn't even consider the possibility that the band would choose to sing a song from a female artist, with a feminine perspective. In choosing to do a Britney Spears medley in this performance PTX had them between a rock and a hard place. The show could tell them that they had to use Scott as the lead on all three songs, raising questions about *Scott's* sexual orientation, or they could waive the rule and allow Kirstie to sing "Oops! I Did it Again." The only other way to enforce the rule would have been to say that PTX couldn't do any songs from female artists, which would have resulted in an incredible amount of negative publicity, and a lot of that publicity would focus on *why* _The Sing-Off_ was discriminating against female artists, leading to exactly the revelation they were trying to avoid.
      4. Note that when Mitch finally had his moment, in the 12th performance, not *one* of the judges thought to question Mitch's orientation. In the first place they would have considered it an inappropriate question, but just as important is the fact that they were all musicians and knew that vocal range and sexual orientation are totally unrelated. Even the business types who were coming up with all this nonsense would have reached the same conclusion if they'd just bothered to think about it - they already knew that Scott was gay, too, so why is Scott a baritone? All their worry about it was wasted effort, because the revelation of Mitch's sexual orientation was never a possibility. All they'd ever had to do was tell Pentatonix not to talk about sexual orientation, and since Pentatonix was there to sing, not to get dates, they would have had no trouble with that.
      And if there's any lesson to be learned from all of this it's that bigotry leads people to do stupid things.

    You have every right to express your opinions! It's your channel! 😁 I personally loved it, but PTX can do no wrong in my mind, lol! And not every song is going to blow everyone away. You had very valid points. But for the 10th one... plan to go to another continent to retrieve the baseball!!

    I would never give the King Family a thumbs down...only a thumbs up which I did! I agree that this was not their strongest performance but then I liked their second performance while the judges slightly dinged them on that one. I do miss seeing the rest of your family in the reactions but understand that they may be busy with other things so just make sure they know they also have fans out here.

    Just a heads up, a lot, A LOT of the drama was the show telling them to create it. "Could you have a disagreement and act like you don't have the arrangement down. Thanks that's super..."
    Ugh. Listen the best is yet to come and you better fasten your seat belt. Much love and keep on keepin on J.

    We also have to remember that they were comparing this performance with the other ones they had done. We have heard so many of their current works that it's unfair to make that comparison. It's like eating fancy chocolates from all over the world, and then eating chocolate from the dollar store. No comparison. Never be afraid to be honest. I'm sad that some people might get on your case for reacting honestly. Keep the PTX video reactions coming! Have you and your boys reacted to their appearance on Sesame Street? I know it's a bit young for your boys, but I think they'd get a kick out of it.

    I'm not a Britney fan, so I wasn't really into this one either, other than Kirstie getting a REAL lead and killing it. This was at the time when she was still very timid and shy and wasn't comfortable in the spotlight, so it was nice to see her go WAY out of her comfort zone here.

    I'm with you Dennis it really wasn't my best of them either I felt like Kirstin shouts her singing and it true Mitch doesn't get to shine much 😭 so sad you should check out the superfruit Mitch and Scott reacting to these and Mitch was shocked how low he is in this and admits there alot of shouting look forward to your next one 🙂

    I agree. Until Scott came in and pulled them together it didn't sound like Pentatonix. I figured out why Voiceplay didn't win The Sing Off when they were on it. It was the same year Home Free was on it. Have you heard of Jinjer, you haven't done a reaction to her if you have? She is an angel with a twist, start with "Pieces". Also I recommend Van Canto, they are a near A Capella Heavy Metal band, they have a drummer instead of a beat-boxer.

    This one wasn't my favorite either. I could appreciate that they technically arranged the 3 songs & the transitions well, & the mashup at the end was interesting. They had the guys in "boy band" clothes appropriate for the era & Kirstie's dress was spot on, so stylewise they had done well. However, to me the tempo was a bit slower than I felt those songs needed, & 2 of the 3 songs I never liked to begin with, because I really wasn't into Brittney's music that much. (Seriously, there are like 3 songs by her that I love, & everything else she's ever done makes me go "meh". Her style was just not for me.)
