Sirocco is a Mediterranean wind that comes from the Sahara and can reach hurricane speeds in North Africa and Southern Europe, especially during the summer season.
Sirocco is so prominent that it is called by many local names, such as
Chili in Tunisia,

Hello ma'am, thank you so much for such an amazing session ❤️. I just had a doubt regarding the China type of climate. Would Westerlies not influence it's climate. I understand that winds from the Pacific play a role in causing rainfall here, but what about the role of Westerlies? Can you please explain?

Major Hot Deserts in the Northern Hemisphere
The major hot deserts in the northern hemisphere, such as the Sahara Desert in Africa, the Arabian Desert in the Middle East, and the Sonoran Desert in North America, are primarily located between 20-30 degrees latitude and on the western side of the continents due to a combination of atmospheric and geographical factors:
1. **Subtropical High-Pressure Zone**: These deserts are located within the subtropical high-pressure zone, which is characterized by descending air currents and stable atmospheric conditions. This results in a lack of significant precipitation and dry, arid conditions.
2. **Global Wind Patterns**: The global wind patterns play a crucial role in the formation of deserts. The hot, dry air masses that form over the subtropical high-pressure belts move towards the west due to the Earth's rotation, resulting in arid conditions over the western sides of the continents.
3. **Rain Shadow Effect**: Mountain ranges, such as the Atlas Mountains in Africa and the Rocky Mountains in North America, block moisture-laden air masses from reaching the interior regions, creating a rain shadow effect. As a result, the western sides of these mountain ranges are arid and desert-like, while the eastern sides receive more precipitation.
4. **Ocean Currents**: The cold ocean currents off the western coasts of continents contribute to the arid climate by cooling the air above them, leading to reduced evaporation and moisture in the air.
In conclusion, the combination of the subtropical high-pressure zone, global wind patterns, rain shadow effect, and ocean currents leads to the specific location of major hot deserts in the northern hemisphere between 20-30 degrees latitude and on the western side of the continents.
