I’m shocked I didn’t think Kentucky had any trout let alone the huge rainbows you caught. I’m a fly fisherman from Utah and I’m getting transferred to Lexington with the company I work for and have been trying to find any places to trout fish and came across your post. The rivers i fish look like creeks compared to that I can wade i would need a boat to even attempt that place. Could you be so kind as to point me in the direction of where to try my luck finding some 20+ inch trout ( Browns rainbows or brooks) within driving distance of Lexington 3hours max drive.
Howdy and thanks for watching 😊 as far as bigger trout, the river in this vid is pretty much all I know that has a good population of them. Hatchery creek connects to this river, and it's man-made for trout fishing only. Google it and you'll like what you find. But bank access is all you need a lot of the time. My buddy said he caught a 30 inch trout the other day in this spot using cut dead bait on bottom. Tons of trout creeks get stocked in ky. Make sure to check the locations and schedules 😊
Those were some really nice rainbows! Can't help but think that'd be a nice place to bring my 12s. Put some heavy lead and cut right up against the turbines or just off the end wall
So on my big bait casters, I had 30 and 40 braid on penn squall reels. The sinker was a no roll, and I changed it around when the current changed. 3 to 1.5 oz. The leader on those rods was 30lb mono. And a small octopus hook. The trout rod was a 1000 sized reel on an ultralight rod. 5lb braid to 10lb flouro leader. Varied from 8th oz jig head, with or without a small split shot to get it down.
