Neil Armstrong: Fifth-graders fundraise for safe drinking water in Uganda

A startling revelation in a science class unit spurred fifth-grade classes into action, and inspired them to get involved in improving the lives of students halfway around the world. Fifth-grade students at Neil Armstrong Elementary School in the Gates Chili Central School District are making a full-court press to raise donations for the Ugandan Water Project, a 501(c)3 registered non-profit organization based in Lima, New York. The UWP raises funds for and distributes innovative solutions to a major problem in rural Uganda: consistent access to clean, safe water. Neil Armstrong students prepared a campaign to raise funds for the group with the aim of purchasing a rainwater collection system to support a community’s need for access to water.
