Can never understand why Sonic Team didn't at least make the Frontiers model look like the Marza render. His shiny eyes and shoes, less reflective fur, removal of the eye crease, longer quills and middle quill fix feels so damn right for Sonic Frontiers. And oh my god his Super form being a slightly darker, more orangy tone of Yellow is PERFECT
To be honest, I think they need to remake Sonic's model again Give him soap shoes, spice him up, grow his quills out a bit, rig his eyebrows, nose, hell... Even rig his ears! He should have ear expressions!
Sonic is long overdue for a new model. This has been the same model used since Unleashed, literally 14 years ago. It’s only been changed slightly since then, like shorter quills and different textures… It’s just outdated. I hope he gets the Ratchet and Clank or Odyssey Mario treatment with the next entry

They just need to keep the art direction consistent like old games (Unleashed, Colors, and Generations) and stop playing around with Sonics in game model downgrading him to make him look more Classic Sonic. When he already looks good on the box art, renders and cgi. Just translate that to in game like they did in Unleashed
Hearing Roger's deeper voice direction for Sonic fits so much more with the Marza Sonic model due to the longer quills and the slightly taller proportions. The Marza model was designed to fit Jason Griffith's Sonic voice better due to his version sounding more... mature and relaxed if that makes sense.

Only thing I don't like about his run is his hands, like for base running it's okay, but while boosting they should be clenched fists to show he's actually exerting himself to go that speed

If Sega didn’t keep giving sonic team $5 budgets and 40 team members per game we might get an official in-game model as amazing as this, let alone a true triple A Sonic experience. Don’t get me wrong I love Frontiers and Update 2 is a huge step up, but let’s be real Sonic can be SO MUCH more and mods like this are living proof of it. These games should be competing with the likes of Mario and Zelda, but Sega doesn’t seem to want to fully capitalize on their flagship character by just giving their in-house team more than the bare minimum amount of resources. It’s baffling to me.
The marza model is definitively giving me unleashed vibes since it was the highest poly model ever for sonic and that was 2008 in short WE NEED THE ORIGINAL HEDGEHOG ENGINE BACK (as well as the unleashed controls and physics engine)

Only sad thing about the Marza render is that the insides of Sonic's ears are solid cream instead of a reddish translucent color. Reason i'm pointing this out is actually because it's a teeeeeny little detail Sonic Team put into the Frontiers model- but otherwise the Marza model is overall better.
The model looks gorgeous and the combat looks insane! Idk what mod it is but the camera not playing a cutscene every time and just activating abilities looks so dynamic and fun!
I appreciate the longer quills personally and it does look nice, however, anyone else feel like the lighting looks really off on it? I prefer the texture/light on the original model, the marza one in this instance is more dulled out in the colors, has a strange reflective surface on the eyes that feels just too strong, and his skin feels slightly less warm. I would enjoy a version of this that kept the detail in the irises and quill shapes but followed the lighting and color of the original.
Sonic looks amazing with this mod! The only thing that I kind of don't like is how spread out his arms are when running. Just a small thing that probably only bothers me, but other than that, it looks amazing!
Those are included as codes in the HedgeMod Manager, which you'll probably need to install to run this mod (as well as mods for other Sonic games) on the Steam version anyway.

This model actually fixes my biggest problem with Frontiers, Sonic now matches the map, I don't know how to explain it and that sentence was very poorly executed, but the model that's used in the base game just looks off in the map and especially in the cutscenes, sometimes the lighting on cutscenes can be weird here, but this model just fits the overall aesthetic of the game while still being the Sonic the Hedgehog we know
This model looks sooooooooooooooooooooooooo good and I love the way he runs, tho I tbh I think his hands are a little *too* spread out, if they were further behind him this would pretty much be perfection Edit: I do wanna note something: it looks absolutely stunning and photogenic af from the side or if he's running slightly away from the camera like at 5:41, but it's just when it's behind him that it looks just a bit off. Wish we could hide it like in 2D illustrations 😭
That model is literally the exact same as the one we saw in frontiers cgi trailers its that impressive. But unleashed anims would've looked better (no offence to this animations mod). other than that this model is perfect, peak and the true modern sonic
I believe it's supposed to be both inspired by it and the Colours cinematic one (which for all we know, Sega used the same model on both and tweaked it, seemingly the same model from Unleashed cinematics as well). They had to animate this themselves since the in-game animation doesn't support this rig, and cinematic cutscenes don't give you access to a model you can rip.
GOD, I cannot express how much I fucking LOVE the run cycle. It makes such tiny changes yet it feels so much more “alive” and open. I genuinely, no joke, hope SEGA sees this and uses a run cycle similar to this in the future. It’s just so good.

I honestly hope they go back to the longer quills, not just because he's modern but also because of the classic sonic being brought back. How did the sonic team get the fronters model wrong, the original model feels skinny compared to the marza model, the reflective eyes probably help with that though.
I honestly only like the eyes better from the Marza model I like that the original looks like fur texture while the Marza model looks like clay. I like his gloves being more realistically textured on the original vs the marza Same with his shoes, they look real and used on the original model
Unrelated note but: Realized that if you play the Action Chain Challenges on Easy Mode you can get S Rank in no time also if you Slide on a curve while moving into that direction on Cyber Space or in the Open Zone you'll drift on Spindash!
This mod really just highlights my major issues with how frontiers looks. This series in such dire need of a stylistic revision. The model is really nice, but it still feels lacking. Not an issue with the mod, more so with what it is conceptually. It needs more texture, more dimension. That’s the best way I can describe it. Make his fur look like actual fur if your gonna go for this more realistic aesthetic.

I think the more squash and stretch in sonics movement there is, the better it looks. For slow movements , there should be minimal squash and stretch but for more fast paced movements it should be exaggerated. Like if sonic boosts his whole body would lengthen be more flat to make him look more aerodynamic.

Sonic Frontiers felt like a tech demo ngl. Everything lacked presentation. Almost every cutscene was just two characters robotically talking to each other with shot reverse shot
This feels great! The only things I would change is the freefall animation back to the rolling fall and the boost animation to closed fists again. Idk it gives off a more powerful feel and the fall would give off more momentum-ie vibes. Is it possible to do this? With everything else intact?

gonna be honest, love the extra detail in the quills, not a huge fan of the darker Super Sonic color though. Bright looks better imo

Sonic Frontiers felt like a tech demo ngl. Everything lacked presentation. Almost every cutscene was just two characters robotically talking to each other with shot reverse shot
there are a few really good cutscenes tho like the one in this video, ig it just costs a lot of budget
This feels great!
The only things I would change is the freefall animation back to the rolling fall and the boost animation to closed fists again.
Idk it gives off a more powerful feel and the fall would give off more momentum-ie vibes.
Is it possible to do this? With everything else intact?
