I had an older neighbor who used a pressure washer and a come along for about four days and he could pull them out! and he was 80 years old!!
Pressure washer and reciprocating saw. Should've left trunk portion taller for leverage. Once soil is hydro-eroded around roots and roots cut with saw. Now you can lower a trailer under leveraged stump onto trailer. Oh well😂
Brock, I loved how you explained what is big tree from nature elements perspective. I do understand how super strong should be stump base and roots system to hold vertically 10 or 20 ton monster and not break from steady strong side winds. Thanks for expressing it simply. Not everyone understands these details from usual things around.
I started digging up a big stump with a sub compact tractor. After one day of digging I wised up and rented a stump grinder for $250. Stump was gone in an hour.

Good morning Brock. Outstanding video! I had never dug out a stump with a tractor until I bought my John Deere 2305. Well, my first one was an ash stump a little over 2 foot in diameter. Long story short, it took me 5 days to get it out. Eventually what I did was after I dug all around it I dug a ramp down so I could dig under the stump with my tooth bar. I got about half way under and it finally broke loose. I pulled it out with my pickup, cleaned out the hole, pushed it back in and after a forest full of brush, untold gallons of diesel fuel, and any other combustible material I could find and another week it was about the size of a beach ball. I covered it over. Problem solved! 😁 Piece of cake. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂

Glad you got the tractor, loader, and backhoe all working way better. Hopefully the cost was less than trading it in for a larger unit. The problem with the next size up tractor is it probably still can’t keep up with this one now. Good job. Tannerite?
Idea.... can you bring/ask your local firetruck guys to come with truck and blast some water into that roots so you can have a better chance in removing the stump? Just a thought...
We had a L2500 Kabota tractor hooked to a single point sub soiler my dad and uncle made for our 10 acer garden. We used it with a big log chain to pull up 4 big stumps on our property. Sometimes you just got to get creative with what you got to get a job done.
I've dug a couple like that out with a 1025R, it becomes a battle of wills because it sure isn't the right tool for the job! :) Been eyeing the same upgrade kit for mine too.

Great video, I am now leaning towards grinding stumps down instead of pulling them out and having to deal with a large ball of roots that won't burn.
Hey Brock! I love your channel and content! Here lately you seem to be much more concerned with some of these commits that call you out on things such a "over working your tractor" or "not an expert" or "don't you know there is an easier way to do that" etc. Please understand that these people are the very few exception compared to the many more people that truly enjoy your content! Many, many more people just simply watch your videos and enjoy them greatly. Of course there is always "another way" to do anything and there is always someone that knows more about the particular job you're doing that day. But there is no one that is an expert on everything everyday, despite what a few may say. I just wanted to take a moment to let you know you're doing a great job and I don't want you to be consumed by the very few negative folks that commit on your videos! Wow, great job so far! I did almost the same thing last summer, using a small skidsteer (bobcat 743) with an excavator attachment. I dug around the stump 5 feet deep similar to you, and dug a ramp to drive the skidsteer to the bottom, took 100 bucket fulls! I couldnt believe how much work it took, and even then it wouldnt budge. It took both the skidsteer from underneath and a chain to a 4wd pickup to finally break it free.
I still couldnt pull or push it up the ramp out of the hole, wound up using pulleysand snatch blocks (4 to 1) in order to pull it up. The skidsteer couldnt lift the stump, but could barely slide it across the lawn, where it sits to this day.
Please be very careful. I wasnt, and wound up tipping over my skidsteer. No damage to me or the machine, just to my pride...

Yeah if you want bigger payments just keep upgrading. What you got Stairsteps. That tractor is fine for what you do.
It aint like you're A big farm or a construction company. Wood a bigger tractor be nice yes.

Not when you can do almost as much with what you got And not have the big payment. Just my opinion. I appreciate all the information keep up to good work.

Hey Brock 👋 I appreciate your videos. I have an unmodified 1025R with loader and 260B backhoe. I do have a BXpanded ripper and 6" trencher bucket which have been super useful digging smaller stumps up to maybe 16". And my experience is highly aligned with yours. Even with the ripper, the boom doesn't have enough power to rip through bigger roots, and I have to take multiple passes just to get through one. About the biggest stump I've dug has been about 26" red oak which turned into a massive hot tub sized hole, and that took 3 solid days of digging and finagling. It was on a slight slope, so I was able to lever it out on the low side and then put the little swiss-army-tractor into bulldoze mode to shove it down and over into a bit of a ravine. I have several larger red oak, poplar, and beech stumps that I haven't really even attempted with this equipment because I'm not sure I'll be able to actually get it done, no matter how long I dig. Saving up for a 4-ton mini excavator.
You need the hydrosplus kits!
I dug one out that big but pine when a kid , my brother and I , probably 10 old brother 8 and ax, pick and couple of shovels . We told my dad we would do it for $5 dollars each , easy money we thought . Well it took us a month we had my neighbor Roy helping and my dad lol, I don't think he paid us , lol come to think about it we had jacks and finally my dads truck chained to it at the end. Another crazy thing about that . It was a huge pine tree right out side our back door , I was their with my friend Danny well their was a huge hornet bees nest up the tree well we were chuckling soft balls at it and it finally came down right on the steps outside the door lol we could not use the back door for like a week , ( probably 3 or 4) days lol , just a little Todd trivia for u . 🤪

Pulling with the boom flexes the outriggers but I don’t think they are bent
From someone who has a backhoe and Dugout stumps. Will tell you all a long tedious process.
I could get that stump out of there with an E-tool and some 550 cord. I do it on stumps like that all the time.*

I think a big part of the disconnect between what people say they do and the reality of it that you show is size. It's pretty hard to gauge the size of things in videos, even with things for scale.
The roof all that would come out of this. When I bust the stump loose would be 6 foot long and 6 foot wide and weigh 6000 pounds.
People comment I did the same thing with a shovel and a hatchet
Brock, You have a skid steer ( I thought it was a high flow), so, get a stump grinder for it. I have a 40 gpm, 4000 psi skid steer that , with a stump grinder like an Eterra, Ryan's, or a Stumper, would take an hour and a half to two hours to grind 9" below ground level. And, that includes chasing the roots running out from the stump just below the ground level. Put a bucket on and haul off the chips or level them in the area where the stump was ! A minimum of disturbance and nothing to dispose of !! I've done it many times even with a high stump like you have.
I sent an inquiry to a company to find out about their skid steer stump grinders. He told me I’d be better off with one on the tractor because the hydraulic pump is not as strong as a PTO.
Doesn’t make sense to me, but that’s what he said. My machine is high flow. 32 gallons per minute. And has a severe duty door.
Your 325G has a smaller gpm and psi than mine. I have Ryan’s but the Stumper is lower rpm and, from the videos, doesn’t throw material and has impressive performance. It does not 4:48 require 40+ gpm that the Ryan’s does. A large stump like yours makes so many chips that a blade integral to the stump grinder - as the Ryan’s has - is necessary .
I have been using my tlb the last couple weeks clearing small trees and stumps and there is no way I would even attempt to dig that stump out with it. Have done bigger with a 100hp skid steer and stump bucket but he’ll no not with my 48hp tlb it wouldn’t touch it. I am interested in the cylinder upgrade and attachment set up you have tho

It’s amazing how much more power your backhoe has. What a great upgrade. As for digging out the stump your backhoe can do it but what some people don’t realize is how big the root ball is and how much the stump weighs. It’s as big as your tractor and weighs more more. There's no right or wrong way to dig out a big stump obviously a bigger machine helps but at the end of the day it's what gets it done

Having seen the specs of tractor hoes, and my owning a full size backhoe and 6ton miniex... the only practical use a tractor hoe can be sufficient for is landscaping. I dig often 24" stumps out and that alone with bigger equipment is still hard.
I’ve dug stumps this size out with a mini excavator. It was a Kubota u 35.
I’ve also done it with my 75 hp skid steer
The thing about guys who own the machine like this one is that they didn’t spend their life savings on it because they wanted to rent other machines. They want to use them.
@@RockhillfarmYT I will admit I probably think the way I do for the context of my needs. I can respect utilizing your machine to what it can do, if you’re a dude with only one stump run what ya got. Definitely still not ideal though. For the price of a tractor hoe, I almost wonder if it wouldn’t be worth renting a mini.
@@nelsonsridge so I own a tractor mount stump grinder and I could’ve taken this out quickly but people have seen that approach.
The biggest thing for a guy who buys a machine like this is he didn’t do it for a efficiency. He bought it because he likes to mess around with and do work on his own property.

Please state what is your Favorite and most successful method for stump removal. I cut down about 100 trees for 6 to 30 inches and want to know what works best you think.
Stump grinder is made for the job. The only problem is it leaves part of the root system underground and that can be an effective for a certain
Mostly just use a stump grinder unless you are in a big-time operation with a bulldozer, or a full-size excavator
Bummer .. They do not make a Ripper that fits the kioti 2478 BH.
It might be to powerful for it ???? My 12" rips roots like Your Ripper did.
Some of these specialty products don’t get attention from the smaller or niche manufactures
I really wish they did but if you have a smaller company, you mainly focus on the big brands

Dirt Perfect, Letdig18 too find out how dig massive tree out. I would rent at least 12 ton excavator or get with right equipment. Would never abuse a smaller tractor . Saying.

I've 5 had small tractors I've operated excavators, dozer, steer, cdl, commercial trucks, 1200 ac farm . Probably it all. Raise cattle too 100 steer we sold off every year. I 68 yrs old and I'm wore. Heart problems and I'm in hospice now. God bless !

Man..........................there is absolutely no way that I'm putting in all of that time to dig out a stump. For the rest of my life I'm just going to keep cutting the stumps as close to flush with the ground as I can, and then using my Woodland Mills stump grinder to grind them down. Just look at the amount of messed up dirt is around that stump, and all of the time invested just to get to that point. Nope, not me.
Depends what you need the space for. If you’re building something there. You should dig them out.

Sorry, but >too much time< spent in this video showing all the successful root digging/breaking (perimeter) with that curved 'spear' & >not removing< this (very big/heavy) stump.🤥
Glad Hydros (bigger) pump & cylinders were as mfgr advertised. That is worth a celebration 🎉! But if you want to pull out a stump, lets go, show us...but you did not do so ...in this 📹 video 😕. So, 'com-on...pull this thing out! Now, do you have a machine that can do this? Or...do you need a (size ++x?125?) Excavator (with thumb) to get this job Done!?

You are destroying that little tractor without knowing it , but to each their own, not real smart, you don’t know more than John Deere Engineering, don’t complain what it cost when you have to replace expensive parts because you double the force’s from design factory pressures 😂

@stevenmd4817 I have 800 hours on it using it the way I always use it.
After the upgrades I’m going to continue using it the way I’ve always used it. I’m not doing anything different because I changed a few parts.
Every video I’ve made and every piece of equipment that I run has been pushed hard since the day I started. I take it past its limits and I ask it to do more than it can.
Four years and $800 later running just fine.
Now I’m gonna do the same work with a more capable machine
