    If the world were on fire, I would run in to save the .mp3 of this melody. Pefection, true and utter perfection. The muscianship, the music, the enviroment and the editing. Go to between 3:05 and 3:06 for just one example of genius muscianship and editing combined. Those two notes from the fiddle right there are just exquisit! Love from Devon, UK

      It sure is easy on the ears and blends well with the band. Nick sells tab for three finger picking of old time fiddle tunes, for banjo, in various tunings (CD included). It's refreshing material that's being embraced by bluegrass jammers.

    Why is the Gibson logo taped over on that RB-1? It's not covered on the mandolin. And you can tell the banjo's a Gibson because of the Mastertone block.

    • @johnwilkinson5718
      @johnwilkinson5718 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zeke Smukler I know him and he lost the use of his middle finger so he compensates by playing 2 finger instead of three and he kicks butt.

    • @jasonbaldwin2171
      @jasonbaldwin2171 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two finger banjo is actually a precursor to the modern and more widely used three finger or Scruggs style of banjo. Obviously with a traditional folk instrument many of the older styles are still in active use if you know where to look.

  • @janhu2013

    Does anyone play this AA B A? I am troubled by the tune ending on what might be termed the bridge and the last chord being the dominant. Or what the hey, it's the 21st century, time to toss all that tonality and form stuff out the window?

    • @havebasswilltravel65

      It's not black tape. It's a capo.

    • @jim109b
      @jim109b 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a capo (that's on the 2nd fret), it is black tape, and I've no idea why it's there! Maybe the inlay is falling out? It's a lovely well played in neck

    • @troyshellhamer9964
      @troyshellhamer9964 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty common for musicians to cover up the brand on the head stock. Bill Monroe scratched out his Gibson logo after a dispute, and I know several others blacked out their logos because they didn't want free advertising or had conflicts. Some players do it because they don't want to advertise for free when they deserve to be compensated...

    • @Ace_Hunter_lives
      @Ace_Hunter_lives 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not so sure it's all that common, but the Monroe thing is true. However, from what I recall, it had to do with a falling out Monroe had about the way Gibson handled one of his set-ups. I may be wrong, but I think that after they painstakingly put back together his smashed mandolin he was so thankful that he had them repair the Gibson logo as well. Is it possible the banjo player is sponsored by a particular banjo brand but was using something else for this video and decided to tape over it in order to avoid the conflict-of-interest?

    • @johnwilkinson5718
      @johnwilkinson5718 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's black tape and he removed the truss rod cover with Gibson on it too. Funny John's Mandolin says Gibson and it's not covered.
