- Check out this RARE nugget - a 1954 episode of "Dragnet" with a 23-year-old Leonard Nimoy! He's not on camera that long, and has a mustache in this episode. Just seeing and hearing the opening to this classic show really takes me back.......

Ben Alexander was not Jack Webb's original partner. That honor belonged to Ben Romero who (in the series) died suddenly of a heart attack.

Just an FYI, but Frank Smith (Ben Alexander) wasn't Friday's first partner. Ben Ramero (played by Barton Yarborough) was - both in radio and television. Also, Alexander wasn't even the first actor to play Smith.
Ben Alexander did appear in the lion's share of episodes of "Dragnet" during the 1950s. Barton Yarborough died of a heart attack after the first and/or second episode was filmed. Barney Phillips replaced Yarborough upon his passing for a number of episodes. Herbert Ellis also portrayed Webb's sidekick for a short time. Ben Alexander ended up getting the role of Jack Webb's partner after that.
He would've been on the revival but Ben had already signed on another show ( Felony Squad)

I always thought Leonard Nimoy was a fairly tall man, yet Jack Webb is several inches taller than he is in their scene together! Was he standing on something or was Jack really that tall?
Seems Jack was about the same height, just by going on the angle of the camera, his hat and where Leonard is standing.
According to google Nimoy is two inches taller (6' 0") than Webb (5' 10")
