I think the DS could have been better, I know other racing games on the DS that look prettier. The PSP is amazing, both handhelds were basically from the same generation, although the PSP is the newer system, the gap between graphical capabilities of the Sony's handheld is almost PS2 like. I applaud the effort they made to make the DS version probably keep the 60 FPS, while the PSP has a variable frame rate. I also agree some people said it's almost like comparing the PS1 vs PS2 graphics here, though, the PS1 has much better looking games, Ridge Racing Type 4, etc. There are notable good looking 3D titles on the DS. I checked ATV: Wild Ride and I really like how that game look in the DS, somehow I think it looks better than most ATV games of that era, including the full fledged consoles. I think it's down to charm or something.

Does make for an interesting choice, Frame rate vs graphical fidelity. Reminds me of Call of Duty. The one for the PSP looks better than World at War for the DS, but WaW is much more feature packed.
It's not only the FPS, the gameplay in the DS version is much better in general. The PSP version has some really wonky and floaty physics and it isn't very fun to play, I'm surprised that nobody in this comment section has noticed that.
Considerando que o DS é praticamente um PS1 portátil, até que ficou uma versão bem excelente, conseguiram recriar o mapa da versão de PSP/Wii com bastante exatidão apesar das limitações do console ( é até melhor que os Need for Speed do console na minha opinião ) e ainda roda a 60fps, mas a versão de PSP é o que realmente surprende, conseguiram fazer a versão de Wii rodar bem em um simples portátil apenas dimuindo os gráficos, frame-rate e resolução, quase me faz pensar em como poderia ter ficado uma versão para o PS2 já que é um console mais poderoso que o PSP.

Nintendo only hardware wise behind started from Wii Era. Nintendo 64 was most powerful in its generation but cartridge storage made it seems weaker. Gamecube is second strongest after XBOX but mini DVD screw it.
The PSP is more detailed, but I'm in love with the DS frame rate, locked 60fps, while PSP has variable frame rate, hardly reaching 60fps (it runs most of the time around 30fps).

Every console has a limit for how much polygons it can render on screen. If the DS game is running at 60FPS, running at 30 they could add better lighting, better textures, etc But for a racing game, framerate is more important that graphics, so the DS devs did well
They're from the same generation, the only difference is that the PSP is the newer product from that time. It may appear like it is next gen compared to the DS, but if you notice, the PSP is still modern today in 2020, it has widescreen, direct console ports, not reimagined or downgraded versions that happened on Nintendo handhelds since the original Game Boy. Nintendo had 4 major handhelds when the PSP hit the market, but the PSP just nailed everything from the get go. Console quality in a portable.

It is very silky smooth on PSP, but that is the only good thing about Dirt 2 on PSP... everything else sucks about it, it doesn't even have the memorial video from the console version, and that was to honor the late Collin McRae, and that stunt for the PSP port is bullshit
What are you talking about? Sure the DS was not the most powerful handheld, but the DS is more than capable of handling 3D, Nintendo released SM64DS to prove it. Plus this game runs at 60 FPS so clearly it has no problem.
Don't judge the NDS from a few games only, it has amazing and good looking games, while some poor PSP titles look terrible, depending on who made the game. If you think about it, it's always like this, don't matter the platform or year of release.

@@sebastiankulche Yes, keep in mind I never had a NDS, I opted for the PSP, but indeed there are some games that make the NDS look subpar in comparison, interestingly, I find most of NDS 3D games look somewhat similar to many 3D Saturn games, and this is not a bad thing on its own, it's just how they remind me. Anyhow, I find Final Fantasy Tactics (a 2D game) beautiful on the NDS, a true work of art.

I think the DS could have been better, I know other racing games on the DS that look prettier. The DS version seems to run smoother and control much better, the PSP version only look good and was a direct port of the Wii version.

Ambas as versões são impressioantes. A de DS se passaria fácil por um jogo de inicio de vida do PSP e a do PSP por um jogo de inicio de vida do Vita.
