Me and my cousin was playing vintage (proxy decks) when Oko was spoiled and nearly every game came down to who got Oko on board first. Possibly one of the dumbest cards ever made.
Yea could have built a much better deck with fires, Oko, Uro and Shark Typhoon are good fits but you want big creatures for your 2 spells and ways to find them stuff like Seagate Restoration and Turntimber Symbiosis feel like they were made for that deck.
Guys, fires is absolutely broken! A card that isn't a tempo loss on turn 4 and on turn 5 gives you 10 mana worth of spells and 5 mana for activated ability's is ridiculous Also let's not forget at 7 mana you could play mardu and abzan ultimatum on the same turn.. And I don't even wanna get started with the Orion+prince bullshit..
I'm pretty new to magic so I have never played against Oko and only heard legends about this unicorn of a planeswalker. After seeing Oko in action... good grief that card is ridiculous lol. Such a hilarious look into what standard could have been. Great video! Btw awesome Fallout shirt!

Recently everyone’s complained about Uro, Omnath, and Lotus Cobra being a problem (and they can be IMO). However, this video was a great reminder of how unbelievably toxic Oko was. Thanks CGB and Danny for reminding us how bad it could have been. Almost, makes me want to give Omnath a hug and tell him it’s okay... almost :) Great video guys!!!
you know a planeswalker is broken when it is the only permanent on the opponents' side, you control three big creatures and you still feel behind on board
@@Dabagel100 Yeah, there's a big perception difference of the state of the game between newer and older players. I saw people saying 34% of the upcoming Historic tournament being Omnath didn't seem that bad. Playing against the same deck every third game doesn't seem like a bad meta... smdh...

I don't hate playing with powerful cards though. My favorite paper format is modern but it just feels bad when they make cards like Oko and Uro that are just better than all the modern cards. What's the point of nonrotating formats if I can just play a standard deck and sweep the event?

They only reason it won't happen is they still want to prioritize selling packs above all else, hence the "at least one ridiculously broken card per set" standard we've been dealing with. TBH I would take 3feri back over the current bs we're dealing with.
I agree with CGB's assessment that WotC has shifted to printing cards in standard that they fully intend to ban later. We went from bans almost never to bans basically constantly in a fairly short amount of time in standard; it's not coincidence, it's not a run of bad luck. It's a shift in priorities. Secret Lair: The Walking Dead is further indicative of this shift in priorities, I feel.
I find it SO hard to believe that the Wizards Play Design team were playing Future Future League with all these cards and said to themselves, "Yep, we got it right, ship em!"
Well only in this type of no bans. Being able to cheat cards in early in the game makes standard dull because everyone plays it or trys to counterplay it. Henceforth fires and reclamation were banned.

I think the worst part isn't even how broken everything is, its how long it takes to kill someone even after you have all that advantage. There is no hope of coming back once someone takes off, but you still have to wait 15 mins for them to get to the point that they are able to actually kill you.
I've really forgotten just how much Oko DOMINATES the games once he hits the board. I was inclined to grant Wizards the benefit of incompetence, but honestly ANYONE playing with him should have realized this. And the testers probably did, and Wizards didn't care. Although i remember something along the likes of testers saying 'we weren't fully creative about Oko's second ability', suggesting they were only using it on their own creatures. But still, even just elking the artifacts should make him bannable, it's a ridicules amount of board presence for a 3 drop that just grows.
In a COVID meta, where most people play online and cards get cheaper Wizards can allow to get more risky in the card design and more agressive with the card bans.

Fires and omnath is a nonbo. They try to cheat Mana in very different ways. Shoving banned cards together doesn't necessarily make the deck better (unless it's teferi). For example, wilderness reclaimation is broken, but only of you build around it.

If these cards were legal in standard at the same time, we would see a high correlational of flipped tables and punched screens. Not saying this would be because of the OP cards. Surely it's the violent video games.

He did have you dead at 57:40. Swap any of his creatures for your borrower. Uro the other borrower. He hits you for 6 in the air.
