@blickblocks It does help diffuse and spread out the light. When both flip down cover and external diffuser are used at the same time, you get a nice soft look, at the cost of some light loss.
I agree, the SB 700 is a perfect compromise between the two other Nikon flashes. Spec wise it does almost everything the SB 900 does and it is smaller and cheaper. I could see owning all three like you do for multi flash set-ups and applications. Thanks and well done!
I'm thinking to get another flash for potraits. I have SB900 right now but I'm thinking should I buy SB900 or Sb700... which one should I pick and I'm bit tight on budget...
@hippo71124, Depends on what you are used to I suppose, I carry my D7000, Sigma 150-500 and SB-600 all at once without a mono pod and I can do that easily for more than 40 minutes before it strains on my arms.
@FinlandApollo I'd got for the SB700 since you already have the 900. Although two SB900 would give you maximum power and versatility with equal ratios.
I am not really up on the flash game and I was wondering what would be recommended for a D700 body. I would like to have a flash if needed. I usually shoot with fast primes so I usually dont need a flash of any sort. SB-700 good choice? Please reply with a your insight :)
It's an AS-22 stand which is normally used on the sb-700, it will fit ok. The correct stand for the SB-600 is the AS-19 which in my opinion is a better stand. In the video it's being used on the SB-900.
My SB-700 has a green backlight. I have actually never seen the SB-700 with blue backlight before I saw this video. Do you know if there are SB-700's with different backlight color? And thanks for making this size comparison :)
@gajetjoe true :D but the lack of PC port is a big minus...but...nevermind, I can't afford either of these flashes because I bought 70-200mm 2.8 VR I :P
@175myles haha I can too, but I myself is very hard to save money to buy my dream D300 and SB 900 and etc, after all I am just a secondary school student in HK, and I am using D60 now@@
@gajetjoe True...but just 5?!? I've got 50 :D not really, just 25... :D Maybe the thing I'm going to buy next is the Midrange lens :P 24-70mm. And by the way, Lensbaby is a wonderful and very different kind of lens. In the beginning, I hated it and thought that it was my the worst investment, but now I love it.
That big bully SB900 stole poor little SB600s speedlight stand :( Also SB900 guide number specification is incorrect, it's not 131' (40 m) at 35mm position, it's 34 m/111.5 ft. (at ISO 100, 35mm zoom head position, in FX format, standard illumination pattern, 20°C/68°F) to 48 m/157.5 ft. (at ISO 200, 35mm zoom head position, in FX format, standard illumination pattern, 20°C/68°F)

@LEXPIX Yes it does, it's a diffuser. it's not a wide angle adapter.
@PhotographersOnUTube Thanks. Agreed, the SB900 is kinda bulky compared to the SB700 and the features it offers.
The diffuser isn't a wide angle anything. The plastic cover built into the unit that slides out is the wide angle adapter (from 24mm to 14mm).

@citizenofvirginity yup, the SB900 puts out an extra stop and a half of output in my unscientific testing compared to the SB600.
Where can I get the sb900 for 350$ or did I misunderstand the price you stated in the video?
@FinlandApollo I'd got for the SB700 since you already have the 900. Although two SB900 would give you maximum power and versatility with equal ratios.
i want to ask u question about sb700 iam going to buy it used from some one how could i know it is good or used badly

@hippo71124, After holding the SB-900 its not even that heavy.
@kg6qzx Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I'm really liking the SB-700 and may pick up another one.
@patje0109 You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
It is. I too have the D700 and find the SB-700 a good all around unit for the size, power and money.
@monkeyboy85 Thanks man. I'm trying to make my vids a little more polished.
@erik75648 The blueish one is the only one I'm aware of.

@hippo71124, That's a good goal, I'm 19 and have a goal to get a 24-70 2.8 and a macro lens.
Very informative and well produced as always. Great Vid.
Joe McNally said bother SB-600 and SB-700 don't give out the power output like the SB-900 does. I guess the 900 gives you more light...

thanks for the info. I 'm doing my first weeding and your video clarify many questions I had.
You're welcome. Glad it was useful.
Masuka is that u ?
weih shook! ang tengok dak?

@blickblocks If I said wide angle adapter, I meant diffuser. i have three and know better.
@MrSteveo357 Thanks and agreed.
@175myles yep it surely is heavy- -
@175myles haha I can too, but I myself is very hard to save money to buy my dream D300 and SB 900 and etc, after all I am just a secondary school student in HK, and I am using D60 now@@
@175myles I think its becoz it gives a bigger light source@@
In my opinion, SB-600 looks the nicest, SB-700 is the one I would like and the SB-900 is just far too big for me.
@gajetjoe True...but just 5?!? I've got 50 :D not really, just 25... :D Maybe the thing I'm going to buy next is the Midrange lens :P 24-70mm. @175myles Eh big brother ( I am 15 haha) xDDD, by the way in the hands, though not that heavy, but SB 900 is really a Gozilla to a human hahha
@175myles Hahaha you're right XDDD
after 10 flashes wait 10 minutes? :))) lmao what? how can that be possible. hahah no!
