You've sold me my friend. Just discovered your channel and thank you for actually producing watchable content. A rarity these days. PS, I'm going to purchase this knife in spite of its American/Texas pedigree, not because of it. 😉
Just got my green g-10 Maverick today. It’s got a born on date of Sept 7th 2023. All seems fine with it. The blade is dead nuts centred. As far as the action, it’s slippery but more hydraulic like a Sebenza. I’m used to that style of opening so I don’t flick my knives unless it’s a flipper only. So I’m happy because I prefer to feel the opening with a very light resistance. I probably could flick it, but I just don’t open knives that way. It’s a good carry knife for a work scenario where you can carry this and a beater. I have a multi tool and a Kershaw Blur with M4 on my plate carrier. They live there. So I can pocket this for personal chores less job specific.
I have the micarta version and I love it. Almost daily carry for me. A beautiful example of form and function in absolute harmony. Pocket clip design and function is perfect. No blade play on mine. A relatively large folding knife that almost disappears in the pocket. Richard Rogers is a genius.
I absolutely love my Maverick. Just bought it last week and imho I believe it completely blows the benchmade bugout out of the water. Some don't like how tight the action is, but those are the same people who ignore the fact that flicking it open and closed by holding the lockbar down actually shortens the lifespan of the blade. I can't emphasize enough that the Maverick is absolutely awesome in every way.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m glad you are so happy with the Maverick! I’ve heard from several folks that they have dramatically improved from the first run. Take care!
I have the micarta Maverick. It's pretty good. The spring tension is adjustable when disassembled. Mine came with it set on the weakest setting. After emailing tactile they explained how to adjust. There are actually 3 possible settings. All in all I liked your review and agree with you on the pros and cons. Good day, keep the content coming brother.
@@olbubs when you disassemble the knife, there are 3 holes that the spring can attach to. The hole closer to the pivot is the tighter tension and the hole closer to the pocket clip is the loosest tension. There is also an in-between hole.
@@olbubs mine is the micarta version and the spring attaches to holes in the liner. I think the titanium version has liners to so I assume it's the same setup. You must disassemble all the way pocket clip too to access the spring on pocket clip side (the barrel spacers come off with Allen key)
For anybody looking to buy a Maverick, my local knife shop Sharp Things OKC has a few more exclusive to them Mavericks in Fat Carbon Fiber Black Dunes. They told me only 50 were made. I bought one today and it looks sick!
I wanted to love my Maverick so much, even bought another after selling the first... just can't get behind it compared to the other incredible knives on the market for around the same price.
Hey, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I like to say, carry what you like!! The maverick still gives me some mixed feelings. Take care!!
No joke at all, I logged in to the Tactile site to finally buy one after watching this video, then I got the notification for the new Spyderco reveal and figured that $350 will be better spent going towards the CF/20CV Subvert.
@@olbubs I had one for a few days and came to the conclusion that it would probably end up being my least favorite of my favorite knives, if that makes any sense. I have a huge weak spot for thick handled titanium framelocks, but if that wasn't the case I probably wouldnt be interested. I was really hoping it would have a semi-thin grind like the K2, but it's really thick behind the edge and I'm almost to the point where that's a total deal breaker.
Hey, you might try tightening the pivot up and using loc-tite to keep in in place. The action will be overly "stiff" at this point. Then use Gunny Glide on the washers and work the blade open and closed till the washers become burnished and the actions frees back up. Finally clean up the metallic lube by flushing it out some more with Gunny Glide and using a Q-tip to clean out the excess oil. The action should improve dramatically. Thanks for the video. 😎👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I am aware of the 2nd set of holes for the Omega springs on this knife, I don’t think that amount of adjustment really changes the spring tension much. Take care!
Great review! It looks beautiful but couple things irk me, non removable thumbstuds and zero grip/texture on the bar lock. If they do another run with some textured carbon scales I may consider it. Subbed 👍🏻
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed! The Maverick is definitely a knife that is easy for them to continue to release variants! We’ll have to see what they continue to come up with!!
Yeah that’s a miss for me. For that price you should be 100% satisfied. That’s a major reason why I avoid cross bar locks especially on high end knives, just never have had a detent on one that I like. My closest is the s90v/carbon mini freek, but I’m sure the small thin blade helps with that
Thanks for stating this, the internal adjustment is quite small and doesn’t really provide much of a noticeable difference in usage. I think a beefier spring is the answer, but then the holes in the liners would have to be drilled larger so it’s not an easy fix on your own.
Side to side blade play is in no way acceptable or normal on a crossbar lock. IMO the sign of a good crossbar lock is that you can tune it to have good action and no blade play (or VERY LITTLE) If a company isn’t able to achieve this with PB washers they should just use bearings tbh
My Maverick is an absolute POS. The blade is atrociously centered, the lock stick is brutally unacceptable and it also had blade play. I’ve contacted Tactile about it, and since I live in Canada, they can’t help me. So basically I have a $500 paperweight.
Side-to-side blade play is not normal and definitely not acceptable, especially for a premium knife, from a supposedly premium company, at a premium price tag. The side to side blade play is definitely a design flaw and tolerance issue. Tactile's response to their shortcomings are an insult to the knife community and enthusiasts, and trying to downplay their failed quality control. The first one I've had was a complete dud with maaaaaajor blade play and veeeeery uneven blade grinds, although it was a second batch, which the issues should've been corrected. So I returned it. I've waited some time and bought another one, which was slightly better, but still had the known issue. This time, I've tackled the matter with my own hands and completely disassembled the knife and tweaked a few things to eliminate the blade play. Happy with the knife now, but definitely not happy with Tactile company as a whole.
They suck. I stopped buying after Rockwall issues I had. When you grip the knife and your index finger wraps around the liner lock, the lock up is so weak that back of your index finger starts disengaging the lock. I sent it to them and showed them a video of it, they said you are putting too much pressure. Haha, I tested all my knives just to see if this claim is true for other knives. Bullshit, not one knife I own had this issue. They just mad when you find a flaw in their design.
Thanks for the comment! I do think it’s an important distinction between problems and preferences. Truly the only problem was blade play that has now been addressed. I can’t say that I’m not longing for all of the preference boxes to also be checked, but it doesn’t make it a bad knife.
BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES: I worked at tactile for a year, they have HORRIBLE management and ownership and consistently produce a VERY inconsistent product, screws not flush, surface imperfections, and sometimes knives with occasional lock files will still get sent out (I remember tons of returns for lockfails). The cerekote knives regularly have small chips and they would knowingly send them out to customers anyway, forcing the customer to decide if the imperfection is worth the hassle of a return. THIS COMPANY IS TRASH
Even the good reviews ofcthis knife are terrible 😂. Thanks for totally putting me off this woke knife 👌 I watched the factory tour of Tactile and they came across as a load of overweight ex bankers in a shed!

That's a very strange comparison.

How much
Besides the disassembly of the knife I absolutely love mine!
It’s a great knife all in all, and yeah woof the disassembly. Bar locks are way easier with cartridge liners, but it’s still not truly too bad.

Thanks for watching and sharing! That’s a pretty similar process to how I generally break in a washer pivot, that’s a great step by step to share!
I’ve had mine about a month. The action is butter now.
Thanks for watching and sharing. I definitely need to carry mine more! There’s just so much competition.
Really great, thoughtful, fair, and well-considered review. Thank you.

I did read that their new G10 models had great improvements to this knife!
That’s great to hear!
Yep, that’s what I got, green G-10. It’s as perfect as anything I’ve seen from any other high end maker.
I used to be addicted to the hokey pokey, but then I turned myself around.
Haha

My $24 Ganzo has no side to side or vertical blade play. A $349 knife needs to come correct from the factory.
Totally agree, thanks for watching!
I respect everything about the knife, EXCEPT the locking system.
It is the one piece that misses the mark a bit.
