    The nail's anomalous properties could be due to the engravings on it. They should have tried to replicate the same engravings onto another normal nail, see if it would gain the same anomalous properties as wellll!

    • @Lillpixeychic
      @Lillpixeychic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +143

      The problem with that is they have no idea what the engravings mean. The SEP has done stuff like that when they know what the engravings mean or if they have some basic idea. Look at how many times they run into situations blindly and almost blown up the world! I think it’s actually a good idea they didn’t do more than what they did…
      Imagine a world where everyone was stuck just because the SCP foundation messed up one tiny fraction of those hieroglyphs

      It is an amulet that was found at a cultist's home...

    • @Interestking
      @Interestking 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Really? Saying that they didn't have to die is like saying that they shouldn't test anything dangerous with humans. They had to know how dangerous it was, and what it could do. Obviously it's still horrible, but not worse than most SCP experiments.

    • @saaddagoat
      @saaddagoat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @@Interestking I don't think making them go thru a wired fence was a reasonable experiment to do. They already established that it's dangerous when you move the lights, hence, that experiment could've easily be done with a rabbit or something. Sure it might not be worse than what others have been forced to undergo, but it was an experiment that really had no purpose and also led to loss of life.

    • @Interestking
      @Interestking 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@saaddagoat I guess it all depends on whether or not it works on things other than humans. If it does, then you're right that it was a waste of human life. If it doesn't, then it gives them information on how much force is behind simply moving the shadow, and what would stay locked, and when those locked parts were dismembered, would they remain locked? It combined 2 or 3 experiments into one, so if it does in fact only work on humans, then this is not only necessary, but efficient too.

    I think it'd be cooler if it was like the entropy jail cell SCP, where there is no mind altering effect to it, it's just that the stillness is maddening.
    Idk. It was still super interesting, and I always love entries that delve into the experimentation like this: not as an excuse to have weird things happen, but to have it feel like there's an somewhat sound logic to it. Why didn’t they try shining a light, nailing it to a shadow, and then removing the nail once a shadow is gone? They basically did everything for the inverse by introducing shadows, but not the reverse, which would be more helpful in learning its properties than repeatedly killing people with it when it was obvious that the shadow will move them along with itself/keep them trapped. Sometimes the SCP baffles me with the things they tend to ignore research wise…

    Okay, so thoughts on the experiments with this SCP and possible future experiments with it. What happens to a subject if the nail goes from embedded in the subject's shadow to complete darkness?
    Also, what happens to a subject if the nail is dropped outside of their shadow and they then move their shadow onto it? Does it still stop them in place or does that nullify the effects, since it wasn't initially dropped on their shadow?
    Also also, does it work on shadows of non-humans or inanimate objects or even anomalous beings or objects? If it does work on those things, could it be used to assist in containment of 682 or 173 or any of the other really big scary universe ending SCPs like the scarlet king? Could it be used to move The Gate Guardian far enough away to enter the gate to find out what is beyond it?

      Item: SCP-272
      Tissue Test Record:
      N/A
      Termination Test Record:
      SCP-682 is released into enclosure amidst a circular array of thirty (30) two-thousand-watt (2,000W) stadium lights, of which only one (1) is switched on. SCP-272 is dropped onto SCP-682's shadow, and embeds itself in the reinforced concrete as expected. SCP-682 quickly discovers that it is trapped by SCP-272's presence in its shadow, and starts to attack SCP-272. SCP-682 then stops midway through its attack, examines 272 closely, bellows an incomprehensible string of words, and slowly backs away from 272.
      All thirty stadium lights are then switched on and off in random stroboscopic "disco" pattern, at 4 Hz. SCP-682 is forcibly hurled around the enclosure in random directions, in accordance with the stroboscopic pattern, and sustains heavy damage.
      After fifty-five (55) minutes of this process, >95% of SCP-682's epidermis has been abraded away, its anterior left limb has been severed, sixty-three (63) of its teeth have been broken out of its jaw, and its skull has been fractured to the point that both its eyeballs have been dislodged from their sockets. At this point, SCP-682's exposed sub-dermal tissue begins to luminesce. The luminescence rapidly increases until it is brighter than the stadium lights, which eliminates SCP-682's shadow entirely. SCP-682 then collapses, and is no longer affected by the stroboscopic pattern.
      SCP-682 continues luminescing for forty-eight (48) hours, remaining immobile for the duration; D-class personnel who recovered SCP-272 from the enclosure were not attacked, but sustained permanent retinal damage from SCP-682's luminescence despite wearing eye shields. After 48 hours, SCP-682 resumes normal activity.
      Note: How did 682 know not to attack 272? Did it recognize the artifact? Was it able to read the glyphs carved into 272's surface? If 682 is literate, is it vulnerable to textual memetic-kill agents? Suggested methods for a viability study are welcome.
