hi. Great video, very informative and all basics covered. I bought a sweet Cherry Lapins on F-12 rootstock for my home orchid recently. And i like to keep it my cherry short 8 feet like you have in video. I don't have a spot in backyard where i can put in a Ground, so i am thinking of planting it in a Half wine barrel size container. Will my cherry will fruit if i keep my cheery lapins tree in Big pot ( half wine barrel size) and prune/maintain it like KGB not more than 8 feet ? Please advise. Thanks
Great Video. Thanks. I am planning a 10 acre Orchard in the Hudson Valley NY. Cherries are a top priority for us. Thanks again. Can you point me in the direction of any enterprise budgets on this system?
There is no Enterprise budget put together specifically for the KGB system but we do have a new economic study on high density cherries in general. Please see me website at Oregon State University (unfortunately, they won't let me post a website link) and follow the link to Orchard Economics.
You can if you are leaving stubs of 3-5 cm to allow fruit bearing axillary buds located at the base of 1-year old wood to produce fruit for one season. These small stubs will die after fruiting and you can remove them in following year.
I've ordered 4 different varieties of tart cherry trees to be planted in our small residential orchard in North Central Indian (Montmorency, Balaton, Danube & Jubileum). I've also order 2 varieties of sweet cherries (Ebony Pearl & Emperor Francis) & all tart & sweet cherry trees are on a Gisela 6 Root Stock. I have the room to plant them 12 feet apart. My questions are: #1 to get maximum production, which training method do you all thinks best? #2 How far apart should I plant them & how tall should I allow them to get? #3 In time, I most likely might have to net the trees to keep birds out.
James Heasley Hi James! have you got the answers to your questions? Im also starting a cherry orchard soon and would be great to know some information who has some real experience. I would also be planting on Gisela 6
Thanks for the informative video. Q: How can i get a bit more height out of a 2yr old Gisela. I have done no pruning or training thus far. I would like to have maybe 4ft of trunk and then leaders, to increase aesthetics and provide shading for siting or walking under. Is this possible? Please advise.
From what I understand on a vigorous root stock you would allow more branches to fruit. Conversely on less vigorous or dwarf rootstock you reduce number of fruiting branches.
Greg lang and Lynn Long. Too many L's. I get you all confused one say prune in the dormant season the other says after harvest. . I got to get it straight who said what
Dormant pruning will promote vigorous growth, summer pruning will control growth. Depends on whether you want the tree to grow more, or if you want to control size
Thanks for the informative video👍👍👍👍

Thanks but this video would be really great if you filmed it again in 1080p (HD)
buy glasses
What advantage would 1080p provide? Video seemed detailed enough for the information provided

Is the kgb system possible on a Colt rood stock?
Of course it is possible.

No

You need to make sure you remove competing branches with leader...
how to prune a cherry tree grafted on a vigurously rootstock? is it a big difference?
From what I understand on a vigorous root stock you would allow more branches to fruit. Conversely on less vigorous or dwarf rootstock you reduce number of fruiting branches.
how many fruits you pick from a single tree using thys sistem ???
Depends on the rootstock from 5 to 30 kg.
Здраствуйте! Хорошо бы на русском перевод или субтитры
th-cam.com/video/pJ7GvUhHVOI/w-d-xo.html Он же в Крымске с переводом на русский. Есть и вторая часть как продолжение.

You are right exactly
Dormant pruning will promote vigorous growth, summer pruning will control growth. Depends on whether you want the tree to grow more, or if you want to control size
If you want to stub them back to regrow leaders do it in dormant season , to control top and lateral branches do it in summer .
