- Ivegate retains no original buildings, the view from Kirkgate is still one of a steep, narrow medieval street. At the top corner of Ivegate (opposite the Kirkgate Centre) stood the medieval Toll booth with the manorial court house (or “Hall of Pleas”) above it, and the town dungeon below. The dungeon still exists below the corner building, and there used to be a plaque that recorded the imprisonment here of John Nelson, the prominent Wesleyan Methodist preacher, in 1744.

Love this love this one . We visited the underground centre while in the city and had the pleasure of looking at the dungeon he was kept in and just to imagine been under there in the dark and cold would of been horrible

I do, actually remember a plaque at the top of Ivegate, low down on the wall, on the right-hand side of the street, mid 60's ! Stating it was, in fact, the site of the Gaol ! But I always remember it as being round ? I'm now living in ROI, the last 20 years and always what had happened to the sign ( I've aways looked out for it on my trips back back. 👍

What are some hidden spots to visit for a walk or creepy places in bradford for an experience? Like tunnels on canal rd and saltaire.
