The Magpul grip will always require fitting as even within HK’s semi-autos, there is no standardised dimension for the semi-auto self. So a 1980s import or a third-party importer may have a different spec from a modern production SP5; that's before we get into clones, and that this grip is also for use with 91s/G3s. Also, HK owners will not necessarily need to swap their housing if they own an older import, as these all used SEF-style trigger groups. The Navy/FBI trigger group came about in the late '80s and '90s, and before the SP5s came out, it had never really been in a civilian offering to the US market from HK; that was one of the cool selling points about it.
I also got the Magpul housing its a large POS. I was using my Heckfire trigger pack in it which fit well. The Magpul housing IMO is junk but you get what you pay for 55 bucks. I ended up getting an SEF Navy housing from HKpro for an SP5 Shelf. Fits like a glove and my heck fire fits great.
I happened to have a HK clone with a SEF trigger pack, Timney trigger goes in without a hitch. It's a huge (almost 5 lbs reduction in weight) improvement with a light enough trigger pull , crisp break and a shorter reset. I don't know what else can you ask for!
@@chef.papa.6tango523 never feel bad at the end of it you have the most bad ass PCC ever created. I definitely appreciate the information. So enjoy what you have. Personally I’m think maybe a binary trigger, but that is $600 on sale.
@chef.papa.6tango523 he literally makes an aluminum lower housing to fit an AR trigger and grip and safety. I got mine just recently, I opted out of the Geissely trigger that he offers since it's a bit pricey but he offers other great options. Defintely look into it.
I get your upset about all the issues like the tigger only works in non ambi/navy/fbi and that you would have to file the grip module down but on timney website and magpuls website they tell you what will and wont work and that you would have to file that metal part down. I personally bought a sl grip module and the esk for my c308 a while back and love them it has a much better grip and saftey feel than the factory did. Only problem i have is with esk selector because it does not work with a c308 and by that i mean it will fit and you can move the selector its just that in both fire and safe positions it will fire so this was a lack of research on my part for not knowing the c308 saftey function is different from a hk safety function which is what the esk is based on but i plain on getting a hk pattern trigger to fix this problem like the timney one because i want a lighter pull than the factory 10lb trigger that i have
@@chef.papa.6tango523 I got a good deal on a PTR-9ct Classic that looked so good I couldn't pass it up. I'd like to put that on it instead of the clipped and pinned one from HK Parts. What would you sell it for?
@John Roper the hk lower has the sn number on it, though not stamped or required to be there id prefer to keep it... I also messed up the safety selector on the housing trying to install the timney. It isn't functional anymore unfortunately
@@chef.papa.6tango523 I was curious on it. HK doesn't do a complete clipping part of their clipping and pinning job for a PTR-9 on their trigger housings, even after you tell them about it, and you end up having to have a gunsmith finish em' or risk messing em' up with a Dremel if you don't have a milling machine and a rotary table. They look good when they're done, but it's an unecessary task. Thanx.

leave the HK the way it is and buy a MKE clone to throw all that stuff into, that's what I did. You know that trigger is WAY better than the stock HK trigger, my HK trigger is pure garbage and even my MKE clones "AP5" & "AP5P" are better than the HK.
The Magpul extended safety switch fits and works perfectly on my PTR lower. Love it!

Sadly the timney doesn't allow for the navy trigger pack lowers...

I can completely understand your frustration, but let’s hope the improves that much better and makes it worthwhile. Thanks for the information.
It was a let down... definitely not a 400+ dollar improvement to the sp5. Disappointed at this point. I was let down after taking it to the range

I picked up the Timney trigger a few weeks ago on opticsplanet for $300 shipped. Seems reasonable now for that price.
it says in the instructions MINOR fitment required. a lot of variation in shelfs so has to be somewhat universal
Buy your lower from Lee's Sporting Trigger. He makes a MP5 lower with AR parts and its plug and play.
Sweet, imma need to look into that

Does HK parts not have a lower grip that it fits in and isn’t ugly like the magpul? There are like 100 different ones on there.
For real. Any clipped and pinned SEF version will work. I’d get the finger groove version.

Guess I didn't feel it was explained clearly, as I had no clue what trigger pack I had
Thanks for the info
Just get an sef lower. The trigger is great.
I might be late on the video, but what do you plan on doing with the SP5 trigger group? That is, given it's condition and if you're not using it.....
Don't have any plans with it. Just sitting in a box at the moment
